Pointing out the folly of man
A few days ago, Demoncarnotaur grabbed a few shots from some SDCC footage, showing off the new Halo 4 Jackal design. This led to some discussion on NeoGAF about how these puppies look a lot like Godzilla. Last night, he grabbed a few more – they’re definitely freaky.Update: HaloBase’s Legend put together a comparison.(Louis Wu 15:42:38 UTC)

Halo pops up in lots of places
Anthony Vaccaro, who worked as an environment artist on Halo: Reach (and now works at Naughty Dog) started a thread on Polycount about a workshop he’s going to be teaching, showing how to create game environments using modular assets. The fun part? He’s going to use a cool Halo concept of a hallway as his base. Pretty awesome! Thanks to Computron for noticing.(Louis Wu 14:21:49 UTC)

Halo 4 LE Console Custom Sounds, from Major Nelson
If you watched all the 343 panels from SDCC, you saw Kiki Wolfkill turn on the Halo 4 LE Console, and you MIGHT have heard the sounds that the console makes when you turn on the console, and when you eject a disc. (Adding these custom sounds to consoles started with the Reach console a couple of years ago – a nice little touch.) In yesterday’s podcast from Major Nelson, these sounds were played in high-quality. If you just want to hear the sounds themselves, fast-forward to 1:09:44 in his podcast. If you would like a little bit of context (and a reminder of what you’re about to hear), start a bit sooner (maybe around 1:09:10 or so). Thanks to Hypertrooper for pointing this out! Update: If you’re too lazy to scrub through a long mp3 file, Legend from HaloBase tells us that he’s put just the sounds themselves online in a YouTube video. (It’s still 10 times longer than it has to be; it’s 23 seconds long, while the sounds are about a second each… but hey, that’s way better than a couple of hours!)(Louis Wu 14:09:48 UTC)

Nightfall LASO – Variants
The Tyrant has posted yet another LASO run – two, even. The first, with RC Master, shows you easy ways of doing this run on Co-op (including getting through the gate even with a second player), and the second shows how and what to clear to give yourself unlimited (and unmolested) time to work on that Forklift glitch without being shot. mastrbiggy gives good schwag
A few days ago, we mentioned a series of poster auctions from mastrbiggy – the money he was raising was all going to Child’s Play. These auctions finished yesterday, and once again, Halo fans prove how hard they rock – he raised just under $1000 with these three posters! (He also picked five winners for his SDCC Goodies Giveaway, but we’re holding off on announcing names until all five have responded to email… he may have to pick new winners if he doesn’t hear soon.)(Louis Wu 13:49:26 UTC)

Halo Waypoint Defiant Achievements Playdate: 7.20.12
From SHADOWSTRIKE1:
To everyone who is still looking to grab those elusive Defiant Achievements such as “All Alone,” “Don’t Touch That!” and “Paper Beats Rock,” look no further! SHADOWSTRIKE1 is hosting another Community Playdate, and this time, it’s aimed at helping you tackle your Halo: Reach gamerscore! The night will consist of a party of Waypoint friends going into the Living Dead and Squad DLC playlists with a certain goal in mind – Defiant maps.
What this means is that we will only be voting for Defiant maps in these playlists to increase your odds of obtaining those hard-to-come-by achievements. In no way is this a boosting party. Nothing will be given, and achievements will still be earned. However, with everyone voting for Defiant maps constantly, you can bet that you’ll have plenty of chances at grabbing those achievements.
If you would like to attend, please visit the following sign-up thread and let me know if you plan on attending. Hope to see you there!
