Podtacular is going to battle the Bungie crew in the Bungie Humpday Challenge!
The rumors are true, the Unofficial Halo Podcast is going up against the official Halo everything! I’m pretty sure the date is Wednesday, June 14th Wednesday, June 7th at 8pm pacific. That’s 11pm eastern in case you don’t have an abacus in your head. Huge thanks to JVB, KP and Frankie for setting this up. So despite my feeb skills, I’m actually going to practice up and play in this match. It will be 5 on 5, and with JVB and me that leaves just 3 slots. I’m sure you’re wondering who those people will be.We’ll be switching out people for each match if we can. Here’s the roster:

Halo Movie Dos And Don’ts, Part I
In the wake of rumors that the Halo movie will be pushed back from its rumored 2007 release date due to its rumored lack of a director and rumored delay of the rumored principal photography that was rumored to have taken place somewhere in New Zealand about now, but allegedly hasn’t, several readers suggested I write something on how I thought the Halo movie ought to be done.
To a certain extent, to do so is a little unfair and perhaps counterproductive. Any idea for the film, if expressed in enough detail, would be indistinguishable from an unsolicited script thrown into a studio slush pile. Either it’ll just be ignored (as most probably deserve to be) or it would be read. Having been read, if any ideas actually got into the movie, it could form the basis for complaints on the part of the author that the studio used them without compensation.
Or, worse still, a random coincidence between any idea in such a script and the film itself might be used as a basis for such a complaint. So, in a way, writing too much about cool things you’d like to see in the movie almost guarantees those things won’t be, especially if it’s something new and unique and interesting, rather than just something you’ve already seen in the games or read in the books.
Besides, the only fair way to do that would be to pen a complete script; and if I was capable of writing a good Halo movie script that would be a critical and commercial success I think there’d have been more of an indication of it before now.
However, what I will do is take some cues from the games, the books, the rumored script by Alex Garland, which I have previously spent time dissecting, and do something that’s not allowed at the Movie Cynics Database at HBO. I’ll write a simple list of things I think the Halo movie Should or Should Not do and explain why.

Bungie is designing Halo 3. They should know what the community wants.
We all know Halo 3 will be more than Halo 2 with an assault rifle and spiffy new gloves. What would you put in it? You should already have plenty of inspiration knowing that there is a modified assault rifle in there and new gloves (and boots) to work with. What other weapons will be in there? Will there be new forerunner, human, or covenant vehicles/weapons? What will they look like? New power ups? New game types? New matchmaking system? New shield system? New team collaboration system? New movement options? Let’s let them know what we think should be in there!

Apparently there are people out there that play other games besides Halo 2. If you have any games you think us Halo 2 jarheads would like, why don’t you let us know about them? Just send us a little mini-review of the game with your gamertag. It would be cool if we covered a bunch of classic games this time too just for variety.

Stuntmutt is no longer in Barbados, but it’ll be a few days before the sunburn has healed enough for him to get back to cutting and pasting – so it’s a good thing that there are still a few celebrity guest strips in the queue. Today’s One One Se7en, for example, was created by Pinkuh, and features a joke so bad even Stuntmutt wouldn’t take credit for it. Or would he…?

Gruntco Base Defense
Yesterday, another movie wound its way through the MPRRS – and once again, 9 reviewers said ‘pass’, one reviewer said ‘not only will I not pass this, but I’ll score it 35% below the average’ – which pretty much guarantees a fail. (To be absolutely clear: reviewers don’t see numerical grades from other reviewers, and every reviewer is fully entitled to his or her own opinion; the comments above were by way of explaining why I was releasing a film that hadn’t passed the system we set up. It’s ALWAYS within my discretion to override the reviewers… but unless there’s a clear disparity, as in this case, I rarely do.) I watched it; the voice acting could use a little work, but the concept is solid, and the execution pretty funny. It’s a submission by KingChuck and Team Conquest, and it’s called ‘Gruntco Base Defense’ – and you can make up your OWN mind about whether it’s funny or not. WMP9 version is 37.5 mb, QuickTime version is 36.5 mb.

Over at Bungie.net, there’s a very cool interview with BOLL, a community member who tends to stand out if you pay any attention to community members. Go read about what makes him tick – I apologize that somehow, I can’t find an original picture of his elite carving; I remember telling him to mail it to us as an entry for the Pillar of Art contest. (He decided it was too expensive to ship.) And what would a BOLL piece be without a cool Flash tidbit? Go read. Update: Heh – good to know at least ONE person kept that original stuff. Frigates are a necessary addition to the space vessels of the UNSC. They primarily provide escort duties for larger ships and are often assigned patrol missions, rather than being a frontline vessel. The conflict with the Covenant has redirected many frigates to much more active battle roles. One of the key frigates of note in recent times is the UNSC In Amber Clad FFG-142, under the command of Commander Miranda Keyes, daughter of the late Captain Jacob Keyes. The In Amber Clad is the second UNSC ship to discover a Forerunner artifact ringworld known as Halo.
