  • ItWasLuck – Scion PotY nominee

Over at MLGPro.com, there’s an interview with ItWasLuck, another Scion Player of the Year nominee; go see what drives him! Thanks, 3Suns.

  • Halo’s Golden Rule Episode 3

A movie passed the MPRRS this morning – it actually passed for the second time. The first time, it passed the reviewers, but I refused to host it because the submitter had been part of a couple of plagiarism incidents in the not-too-distant past, and I wasn’t even willing to look at it. However, he seems to have learned his lesson – we recently hosted a nice montage he did, because everyone deserves a second chance. He decided to resubmit this vid – and it passed again (I’m not thrilled that one of his clanmates reviewed the film – and gave it a well-above-average score – but the film had a passing score even without that). Halo’s Golden Rule Episode 3 is a look at a 1v1 match between the submitter and a trash-talker… and while it seems a little petty to make fun of someone who trash-talks without being able to back it up… it’s still pretty satisfying to see the other guy get beat. Go watch – WMP9 format is 62.1 mb, QuickTime format is 63.3 mb.

  • Would That Make Her Katana?

Today’s One One Se7en, riffing on a line from the Halo 3 trailer, made me laugh out loud. Then I smacked myself in the head with a board as penance for encouraging Stuntmutt. Go read.

  • The big night is here!

We should be facing Bungie tonight in the humpday challenge. For those participating or available on standby, here’s the plan. It will start at 11pm EST. The 2nd and 3rd games will obviously start later. If you’re scheduled for those matches, keep in mind you’ll get an invite a while after 11pm. If you’re on the challenge team, you should probably get online to warm up an hour early or so. We suggested playing Low Hill, Counter Strike, and 1 Flag CTF Fast Lockout with touch return. Practice those games with others from the challenge team if you can.

One thing I do not want to do is keep Bungie waiting. So if you’re on the 1st string or on standby, I expect you to be ready to accept an invite on a moment’s notice. If it goes over 30 seconds I will already be looking for a replacement. We won’t be waiting for your matchmaking games to finish. If you have any more questions, let me know. I’ll be taping the match with a camera on a tripod so hopefully we can make that available on the site. It’s gonna be awesome!

  • A look at the USA Networks/MLG deal

NewsFactor Network wrote up an article on the upcoming TV presentation of MLG matches, and what it might mean for the future. Thanks to CoB Icu, who noticed it at MLGPro.com.

  • Exploding Unicorn Deconstructs Halo 3 Trailer

Joe Larson shows that he’s got sharper eyes than all a’ yas with his biting analysis of the Halo 3 trailer – there’s some good stuff in there. Give it a read! (Then yell at him on our forum.)

  • 3D Screenshots – almost

c0ld vengeance and sorahn have both been playing with Xbox7887’s trainer again – this time, they’ve created ‘3D screenshots’ – sort of. (They’re actually just QT movies that walk through a rotation around the shot – but it’s close enough.) Vids range from about a meg up to about 6 mb. Definite coolness.

  • Cheap Action Figures at Amazon

Clefton Twain pointed out that there are a couple of real bargains in Halo 2 action figures at Amazon right now; you can pick up either the Series 3 Ghost with Brute or the Series 3 Spec Ops Invisible Grunt for $5.29 right now. Nice deal! (The other $5.29 figures Clefton mentions are the Johnny Lightning minifigures – that’s a normal price for those.)

  • Halo 3: The Making of the Trailer (with bonus footage)

I’m a little late on this one, but this video is about as exciting as watching the trailer itself. Frankie says if you look very closely you’ll find a hint of things to come. What could that be?

  • Halo 3 – Behind the Trailer

    7:08 Mins

    From Bungie.net

Jim McQuillan, one of the FilmOasis guys responsible for the making-of documentary bundled with the Limited Edition version of Halo 2, has been hired by Bungie full time. A documentary has been released today showcasing the production of the Halo 3 trailer with a lot of info, more angles from the announcement trailer, and a good bit of humor. Great to show your friends without broadband. It comes in six flavors: QT and WMV 720P, QT and WMV medium res, and QT and WMV low resolution. The portable movies are all at 320×180, due to the weird aspect ratio of the original movie. Warning: rated PG-13 for language.

    PSP version fixed! Thanks, psprulz323!

    PSP – 16MB

    Pocket PC – 13MB

    iPod – 18MB

  • Halo 3: Behind The Scenes

Occasionally, they release me from the chains that hold me to this desk, and take me outside to see the sun. (Or the stars, depending on the hour.) And as welcome as these breaks are, sometimes they come at… inconvenient times. Tonight, Bungie released Halo 3: Behind The Scenes, a new piece from Jim McQuillan. (Jim’s the guy behind Film Oasis, the company that made the Halo 2 Making Of documentary that shipped with the Limited Edition Halo 2 discs. Bungie liked him so much they hired him fulltime.) Our forum is awash with discussion, but in case you haven’t already seen it, you should go grab a copy – it’s seven minutes long (!!), available in WMP9 or QuickTime, in sizes ranging from 320×180 (about 25 mb) up to 1280×720 HD (about 400 mb), and it’s fascinating. Go grab the biggest copy you can handle, and see what Bungie themselves think about Halo 3! (I’ll toss out a potential warning; it’s possible that the QuickTime HD version has its last 20 seconds corrupted; it was that way for me, and for several others. Bungie is aware of the issue, and checking to see whether the file on the server got corrupted during upload; if it did, it’ll be replaced soon.)

  • Halo PC Mod: Modified PoA

darkster2ongame sent us a note about a single player mod he’s release for Halo PC – it’s the Pillar of Autumn, except humans and the Covenant have changed places (and the Covenant are mostly grunts). He sent along a small movie (1.5 mb, WMP9 format) to show an example of the gameplay. More details and a download link can be found in his Bungie.net forum post.
