  • Send in stuff for next week’s show: Hack attack!

    The word has gotten around on a lot of things discovered in the halo 3 beta recently, and the word sounds pretty darn good! Here’s some of the things that have been revealed so far:

    1. Someone found out how to use the M6G pistol.
    2. Another Halo community apparently found out how to get to the Custom game menu. I’ve seen it and it lets you view all the game options but not change anything or start a game. Read the link for all the juicy details!
    3. New ranks, game types, medals and equipment have been “found in the hex code” of the beta apparently. We don’t know if this one is true but it looks like it. Be sure to check it out either way.
    4. The custom armor type discovery has a screen shot of a debug screen with some of the strings there. Looks interesting! Custom armor?! More than just the classic spartan suit!
    5. The good folks at High Impact Halo couldn’t resist and made it outside the map on valhalla. They were able to fly into space and look at untextured stuff.
    6. Some people apparently found out how to actually play custom games in the Halo 3 beta without modding. It shows some new game options there and gives us a taste of what’s to come.
    7. UPDATE: Kimo23 and friends at Podtacular got into the customs menu and were able to play some custom games! He talks all about the game types and options they played… there were a bunch!

  • THX Thursday Outing

    Due to popular demand we will again have a THX outing on Thursday night. This time we’ll be meeting at Buffalo Wild Wings in the Jones Valley Super Target shopping Center. Contrary to what JDogg might tell you, Buffalo Wild Wings is NOT closer to the Rave than it is Chili’s. In fact, it is directly behind Chili’s. Feel free to bring spouses, significant others, children, cousins, pets, trolls, and fictitious creatures from Greek mythology. Appointed time will be 7 PM. Come late if you have to; some of us will probably be there until 10-11 PM. After doing a leader’s recon this weekend I can confirm the wings are good and the drink selection is gratuitous. Hope to see many of you there.

    Yesterday, Jillybean stopped by the forum with a somewhat cryptic message about the Scissor Sisters and Halo 2 – it didn’t make sense to me until I saw a press release this morning. Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, that press release isn’t anywhere public yet – but here are the relevant paragraphs:

    LONDON, 23rd May 2007 -It was revealed today that chart topping superstars, Scissor Sisters, will be taking on gamers from across Europe in a unique Game with Fame event on the Halo 3 Multiplayer BETA via Xbox LIVE™.

    The band, who launched Xbox Soundtracks in February with their remixed version of “She’s My Man” cut to the Halo Wars trailer will be playing members of the 6 million strong Xbox LIVE community at 11.00 BST on 30th May 2007 direct from their hotel in France before going on stage later that day as part of their latest tour.

  • Zune Giveaway – folks are shooting themselves

    Wow. Sometimes… I gotta wonder. So we’re offering folks the chance to win one of four free Zunes, right? And there’s a page we’ve put up that contains rules and regulations. They’re pretty simple rules and regulations… or so I thought. I looked into the uploads directory today, to get a sense of how much work we were going to have ahead of us when this contest ends – and there were 62 uploaded entries. Thinking that I could get a jump on the sorting, I downloaded them and began to look through them… and commenced pounding my head against my desk.

    • 11 entries were commercially-released songs
    • 4 entries were previously-released material (songs or movies)
    • 18 entries did not meet our format/size requirements
    • 2 entries weren’t even Halo files

    Folks – if you want to participate in this contest, read the rules. File types, file sizes, SCREEN sizes – they’re all defined.     On Saturday, we mentioned CitizenErased27 and the work he’d begun on a Spartan Laser replica. Over the weekend, there were a pair of new updates – Saturday night saw some dimension calculations, and this morning we were treated with pictures of the basic frame, completed.
