The latest news about the Halo series of games from Microsoft

  • Outpost Isil Episode 1

Treeskunk Productions has posted Episode 1 of Outpost Isil: Rekindle the Flames. We get a chance to meet three of the characters of the series, and the storyline has begun to be unveiled. It’s available in a bunch of different formats; you can pick the one you want from Treeskunk’s page (thanks, Bzerker), or Twilkey SRT has kindly provided direct download links to all versions (plus GamingTV mirrors) on our forum. Go see!(Louis Wu 12:35:54 UTC)

  • Xbox Solution – believing again

I haven’t posted too many Halo reviews recently; there were so many, coming so fast, that trying to process them all was pointless. They’ve slowed down, though, so new ones, usually written by people who’ve taken some time to digest the offerings of the game, are probably worth pointing out. Xbox Solution just put one up – Halo 3 reaffirmed the writer’s faith in Bungie (lost after Halo 2). Give it a read.(Louis Wu 12:31:43 UTC)

  • Getting closer to Halo…

This weekend, BobFlop pointed out a video on LiveLeak which showed off a new exoskeleton being tested by the US Army. It’s similar to other vids (and other human assistive tools) discussed in the past; I thought it was fun, but not really Halo-related. Well, that video made it to CNN yesterday, and our mailbox was flooded. Almost every person who sent it to us pointed out that it could be seen as a precursor to MJOLNIR armor. So… in the interest of keeping the mail at a reasonable level, I’m posting this; go watch the vid, and decide what you think. Even if it’s not Halo-related… it’s pretty amazing tech.(Louis Wu 11:57:15 UTC)

  • RT: Comic and the Store

Sorry for putting up the comic so late today everyone. We’ve been hard at work on some stuff, and this was my first break away to post it. Also, as it’s the season, I feel obligated to mention that we have about a billion new and awesome items in the store…

  • Dung Beetle Beats Elephant

…because just like tanks, dung beetles beat everything.

Or so Michael Mann would have you believe in his latest blog entry at the Huffington Post. Mann has bee providing updates on the monstrous menagerie of characters that inhabit Wideload Games’ upcoming political party game, Hail to the Chimp. The latest entry talks about how the studio narrowed down the potential cast of characters.

  • Marty made the Under 90 list.

IGN points out that Details magazine has rated the top 50 men under 45… and Jason Jones comes in at #43. I guess heading the studio that released Halo 3 is worth something… thanks, Wolverine Monkey.(Louis Wu 23:26:22 UTC)

  • Foo Mo sez “I’m Easy!”

WTF?!With a keen eye and ever-sarcastic gaze, the folks over at Sarcastic Gamer have just discovered a stunning, earth-shattering truth about our great leader, Foo Mo Jive.

He plays Halo 3 on Easy. Yeah, really.

Also known as Baby Mode, or in the parlance of the streets, Sucka Mode. Yeah, REALLY.

Why, you ask? Well, as far as the rest of us at Podtacular headquarters know, he was probably just looking to boost his ‘cheevo score and find some skulls buried deep in the bowels of the Cortana level (who knows what’s up in there) but we all know that there’s no acceptable reason to be playing Halo 3 on Easy. Not unless you’re going head-to-head with Mr. T, Chuck Norris and Ahnuld all at once and the only way to escape with your life is to start up campaign in true sissy fashion. Even then, it might be best to take the pummeling and at least go out like a man.

Either way, here’s hoping that one Mr. Foo Mo Jive can show his face and we can all rest easy that this was just a case of mistaken identity, or some other semi-believable circumstance that would keep the world from collapsing upon itself. Please?

  • TTL Tuesday – it’s that time again

Today’s Tied the Leader update from XerxdeeJ mentions some, but not all, of their new content. In addition to a genteel challenge issued to anyone who hasn’t faced the TTL Gunslingers, there’s a piece describing an AP article on gaming as social networking; deeJ was interviewed for it, and has quotes in it. (It’s definitely the beginnings of a new type of interaction, and it’s interesting to see how Halo is participating at the start.) And there’s a reminder that Gamertag Radio has made its nominations for this year’s Xbox Community Awards (TTL is up for Team Community of the Year). Go read!(Louis Wu 16:45:37 UTC)
