  • Fat Man (remixed)

This is a transcription of Thomas Barth’s remix of Fat Man, a Marathon track. The remixed version is part of the new soundtrack for the AlephOne version of Marathon, named Fat Man2. It is almost impossible to play both hands together, but if you can just learn the right hand by itself it still sounds cool.

Also just ignore the thick repeat double barlines in the middle of the piece — they should be regular repeat double barlines to mark the different sections of the song, but PrintMusic won’t let me do that. I also remind you that it is in the “Blues” key of C, which is why there are a bunch of seemingly random accidentals.

Hope you enjoy it — have fun!

  • Are You Hardcore?

Our friends at FASA, who’re working on the lovely Shadowrun for PC and Xbox, are looking for hardcore Xbox gamers in the Seattle/Redmond area for a fun event on Saturday – and possibly your chance to help shape competitive gaming on the Xbox 360. The requirements are pretty intense, but we know our folks have ’em.

  • 300 – Again

A couple of days ago, Vegechan stopped by to point out that he’d recorded a new Halo/300 vid. So far, we’ve announced 4 different trailers that tie Halo to the movie ‘300’ (one | two | three | four). I didn’t think I’d be linking any more – but Vegechan’s version really hit home for me. Solidly done, entirely from stock footage. We’re hosting his High-Quality WMP9 version (51.3 mb) as well as a high-quality QuickTime version (39.2 mb). His forum links contain other download options. Check this out!(Louis Wu 19:34:52 UTC)

  • BooL FTW

Wow. scurty accomplished (with a little help from MadRoX) a feat I’ve never seen before; he put six Banshees into the Control Room on AotCR. Six. Wow. Go watch. Thanks, Ducain.(Louis Wu 17:41:42 UTC)

  • How exclusive will exclusives be?

Gamasutra has put up an article that looks at the importance of exclusive games to a console – and to the developers that create the games. It gathers its opinions from three industry analysts, and it doesn’t require a Gamasutra login to read. Halo 3, as you might expect, features heavily. Thanks, LegendaryMark.(Louis Wu 16:16:56 UTC)

  • German GoO Preview at Halo Universe

Marc, from Halo Universe, let us know that they’ve got an exclusive preview of “Geister von Onyx” (the German version of Ghosts of Onyx) available now – you can read the first chapter. The book will be available in April or May.(Louis Wu 16:02:03 UTC)

  • Machinima Aesthetics: Genre or Processes?

Over at the website for Digital Producer magazine, there’s an article about machinima, and where it might be going. Part 1 (discussing machinima’s origins) starts here, Part 2 (aesthetics) starts here. Both mention Halo (via Red vs Blue).(Louis Wu 15:58:22 UTC)

  • The Sparrowhawk – Fleshed

As we mentioned last weekend, the mystery image first shown a couple of weeks ago on the Halo Wars forum was revealed on Saturday as a UNSC Sparrowhawk, a new unit that will be available in Halo Wars. Yesterday, Ensemble’s Community Manager, Thunder, posted some new information – a short history of the vehicle, and some larger pictures of it. (The 1900×1200 wallpaper is pretty impressive!) Swing by the forum post to read more! Thanks, GhaleonEB. (And again, if you’re interested in the progression of the mystery pictures, you can see them, along with the date each was posted and the listed ‘decryption percentage’ (as shown on the Halo Wars site), on this page.)(Louis Wu 14:34:06 UTC)

  • Tied The Leader Tuesday

If it’s Tuesday, it must be Venice. Erm… I mean Tied the Leader. XerxdeeJ stopped by with a summary of the goodies available this week at this grandaddy of Halo blogging sites – there’s a 22 Questions Interview with Ellie Gibson, editor of GamesIndustry.biz, a recap of the most recent Tied the Leader Potluck (I was there, it was fun), a review of the movie 300 with a Halo slant (I haven’t read this, because it told me not to until I’ve seen the movie), and a Community Profile of The Adult Gamer, a site aimed at (whoa, surprise) adult gamers. Get to reading!(Louis Wu 14:18:41 UTC)

  • Confessions

Mister Froggy has released Halo, Articulated 21 – learn the deepest, darkest secrets of your favorite Halo characters!(Louis Wu 14:11:00 UTC)

  • PodTV 8

Podtacular released Pod TV 8 – a video tutorial showing you how to get your hands on the Scarab Gun and the Soccer Ball on Metropolis. Tricksters have known how to do this since late 2004 – but most Halo players don’t even know they exist. They’re both pretty fun to play with, and the team of Cryptoflix (voiceover) and Kiaffex (gameplay) does a great job of walking you through the process. The video is about 58 mb in MP4 format (also available on YouTube). Thanks to Kiaffex for the heads-up.(Louis Wu 14:08:50 UTC)

  • XNA In The House.

For those who have dreams of becoming the next Cliffy B, look no further. Microsoft releases XNA Game Studio Express as a free download. Don’t miss this opportunity to show your friends and the world what you are made of. Read more about the goings-on in the world of XNA.

Today, the XNA Game Studio Express Challenge teams, together with Microsoft, unveiled their completed games to the public at the Game Developers Conference in celebration of the launch of the “Dream-Build-Play” global game design contest. The “Dream-Build-Play” contest offers aspiring game developers the opportunity to showcase their game design ideas and talent to the world, as well as the chance to have the top game published on Xbox LIVE Arcade.

Each XNA Game Studio Express Challenge team worked from Monday, March 5, to Thursday, March 8, at Windows Vista stations in the XNA Lobby Bar at the Game Developers Conference to bring their game to life.

    The four games include:

“DungeonQuest,” a 3D action RPG from independent game developers Benjamin Nitschke and Christoph Rienaecker from exDream in Germany. Benjamin and Christoph managed to include two player co-op multiplayer in this expansive dungeon crawler.

“Simian Escape,” from independent game developers Jonathon Stevens and Patrick Glanville from the United States, is a 2D run-and-jump game in a prehistoric setting built with the help of Torque X.

“Damage Control” is a game created by hobbyist game developer Josh Butterworth from the United Kingdom with the remote assistance of Maher “m0dus” Al-Samkari and the NeoGAF community. “Damage Control” is a four player multiplayer siege game where you must defend your base from wave after wave of invading aliens.

“AbduX,” from graduate student game developer Andre Furtado from Brazil, is a zany action game that turns the tables on the classic humanity vs. aliens formula. This time, the player assumes the role of an alien and pilots a flying saucer through the countryside to abduct unsuspecting earthlings while trying to avoid detection. What’s impressive about “AbduX” is how it incorporates voice recognition commands to control functions of the spacecraft.

The games are now available for download by the public for free on http://creators.xna.com/ . Anyone with XNA Game Studio Express can play the games on a Windows PC. You can design your own game by downloading XNA Game Studio Express for free at msdn.xna.com.

  • Pod TV 8: Scarab Gun and Soccer Ball

    YouTube version | iPod version

This time Cryptoflix teams up with Kiaffex to deliver this double easter egg attack. Kiaffex handles all the game play while Cryptoflix soothes our ears with his english accent. Watching this makes you wonder how the heck people found these things in the first place.

  • The Shard – Halo 3 Theme

Chris Orgeron let us know that he’d created a version of the Halo 3 theme – you can check it out on his band’s MySpace page, or you can download it directly from us (mp3 format, 2.5 mb). Give it a listen!(Louis Wu 16:43:13 UTC)

  • Fan Made Halo AR Replica

    haloar
Check out this fan made Halo AR Replica reported on HBO. Here’s, Link4044’s website with some more pictures. I’ve always wondered how this thing was to be held because of the strange stock on it. Not sure if I’d want to have to fight with something this weird in real life though. It seems there’s nowhere to brace the gun against your shoulder. It’s as if it’s almost a ‘fire from the hip’ type of weapon. Cool none the less. Now all that’s left is for someone to come up with a fully functional one.

  • Golden.

Today’s One One Se7en was a no-brainer; I’ve been waiting for it since Friday’s Weekly Update. (I guess ‘no-brainer’ isn’t a very good descriptor for a specific One One Se7en… too general.)(Louis Wu 14:48:17 UTC)
