GI’s Top 200 Games of All Time
Morpheus pointed out an article in the latest issue of Game Informer – it’s their 200th issue, so they put together a ‘Top 200 Games of All Time’ list. Halo was #39, Halo 2 was #110. Neither Halo 3 nor ODST were on the list. This isn’t online at this point.(Louis Wu 18:05:50 UTC)

Really, IGN? Really?
So I’m over at IGN, looking for the end of their Top 25 Xbox 360 Games article (no Halo games in the top 5 – I suppose, in hindsight, it makes sense that Halo and Halo 2 didn’t even place, since both were original Xbox games), and I run across… this. I mean… really? (Yes, Halo’s included.)(Louis Wu 18:03:26 UTC)

RT: Revisiting the Classics
It’s every guy’s dream to have a girlfriend or wife that gets into gaming… until they actually do. One minute they’re bitching at you for hogging the TV because Will and Grace is on, the next, they’re hogging the Xbox and insisting you play Fable 2 with them for three hours even though Left 4 Dead 2 JUST FUCKING CAME OUT.

I’m thinkin’ stencils…
Love for Sangheili knows no bounds – or at least isn’t stopped by plain old jeans. Blueskyfish added a very cool image to the leg of her pants – and Hawty McBloggy highlighted the image. I’d wear those!(Louis Wu 15:25:11 UTC)

ODST Google Earth Map Updated
Now that I’ve actually gotten my hands on the game, I’ve been able to add some more data to that Google Earth Network Layer for Halo 3: ODST.
Each of the 29 audio locations in the Mombasa Streets level are labeled. So far there’s no additional information (screenshots, descriptions) but I will add that as I go through on my next playthrough.
I’ve also added the mission beacons, the supply caches, some landmarks and some of the health pack locations, although these are not exhaustively listed yet. The city streets can get to looking like a twisty maze of little passages, all alike, at times, which is why I’m trying to include notable landmarks like wrecked Oliphants, crashed Banshees, drone wreckage, and other items that might make it easier to tell one place from another.
Again, in Google Earth, choose “Network Link” from the Add menu and insert this URL: http://rampancy.net/sites/rampancy.net/files/mombassa_odst.kml and when you launch Google Earth you’ll get the latest updates to this layer.
If you have additions or changes, put the new or modified items in your own KML file and mail them to me at narcogen@rampancy.net and I’ll include them in the network layer.

Controlling access… or buying good reviews?
There’s an interesting article over at Ars Technica about gaming reviews, and how the circumstances under which they take place might affect their conclusions. It focuses on an event sponsored by Activision, in which reviewers were put up at a resort in Santa Barbara, airfare and lodging included, in order to play Modern Warfare 2 for a couple of days straight – but did the perks affect the reviews themselves? Halo is mentioned, since Microsoft hosts its own play sessions for reviewers – though transportation and lodging are NOT part of that deal. Microsoft says Halo is tested this way to control access to copies of the game – but is putting reviewers up in a resort for the weekend, as Activision did, really necessary for that? What do you think? Sound off in our forum!(Louis Wu 15:14:51 UTC)
