    Game Informer

    From Game Informer:

Halo 4 promises to introduce gamers to a whole new set of locations, enemies, and story lines surrounding the adventures of Master Chief and Cortana. While many elements of that new vision, including details about the new enemies in the game, remain under wraps, a closer look at concept art from the game helps to illustrate some of the most exciting new elements on the way. Click the link below for a tour through the art and game world of Halo 4.

  • Community Member of the Week: PhNx Hellfire

Every Monday, we feature a community member who does one or more of the following things: routinely goes above and beyond for their fellow forum members, is a positive and active member of the community, and/or sends me mass amounts of cat pictures. This week our Community Member of the Week is PhNx Hellfire. Read a little more about him below, then hit his profile to learn what a shotgun has in common with his head!

    Community Member of the Week

    Gamertag: PhNx Hellfire.

    Previous or current clan/community: Phoinix.

Halo game(s) you are currently playing: Reach and ODST.

Favorite map, game type and playlist:

Favorite map: I’ve been going back and forth on this, but really, I don’t have a favorite. It’s narrowed down to a toss-up between Countdown, Arena Zealot, and Spire for Reach. Valhalla and Avalanche tied for Halo 3. Data Hive, Lost Platoon, and Windward for Halo 3: ODST.

Favorite game type: Slayer, though I’m starting to appreciate Objective game types more and more. Particularly Invasion or BTB types.

Favorite playlist: Without a doubt, Team Snipers, though I’m going to start making trips into Invasion and Team Slayer more often now.

Least favorite map, game type and playlist:

Least favorite map: Took me a little bit to narrow this down, but I’m not a fan of Asylum and the BOOMball game variant without Evade. Taking that out really cut me down as to the effectiveness of what I can accomplish, though Sprint is a very capable backup.

Least favorite game type: Infection/Safe Haven. I can do well enough with a shotgun, but I personally can’t stand the situations that occur in that. With the betrayals that previously were occurring, I just said this game type wasn’t that fun. With the update, I’ve yet to try it. So we’ll see….

    Least favorite playlist: Living Dead.

Halo playing style (offense, defense, sniper, driver, etc.): I am finding the combat prowess of BTB TU and DMR sniping is a lovely combination most matches. Other than that, I’m opening up about becoming a driver in MM, but I’m still a long way off from pulling anything noteworthy… other than the obvious of staying alive and not driving into kill zones or attempting Warthog flying lessons off a cliff.

    From Alex:

This is a laid-back Halo: Reach minitage from IBiscuit v2, edited by himself, entitled “Wild One.” The gameplay consists of his leftover clips and contains a good amount of sweet Multikills. The editing is minimal and the syncing is basic for the most part. Enjoy!

  • This Spartan Life 7 – A Halo Talk Show

    From Damian Lacedaemion:

Internet freedom proponent and activist, Tiffiniy Cheng talks to Damian about how her organization, Fight For The Future, helped defeat the potentially disastrous SOPA and PIPA bills in Congress. Meanwhile, Fyb3roptik continues his search for the elusive Lt. Minderbinder on the front lines of the Halo 3 campaign.

This is the first new episode on our site since the TSL Waypoint episodes on Xbox LIVE. We’re excited to continue our focus on serious issues while dodging beat-downs by our fellow Halo: Reach fans.

  • Reach Weekly Challenge – 4.23.12

    Halo: Reach Screenshot

After several weeks of Campaign and Multiplayer, the weekly challenge makes its triumphant return to Firefight! I have a feeling that the Covenant have been missing all the destruction raining down from the skies, so be sure to stop by and remind them who’s boss for a round or seventy-five. And while you’re at it, why not grab three friends and make it a party or stop by the Weekly Challenge Thread on the forums and check in with other folks looking to group up. Good luck!

  • New Alexandria Speed Painting

ElzarTheBam posted a link to a Halo speed painting on YouTube (the creator, DUKS, actually says this version has better audio) – it was inspired by the Deliver Hope trailer, and took 7 hours to complete. If you like the final product, you can purchase a print at DeviantART! Beautiful. (Louis Wu 14:18:09 UTC)

  • Unwind 2

RVideo sent us word of Unwind 2, a new video from ZoLA – it’s 12 minutes of friends having a lot of fun playing Halo (and occasionally betraying each other). Gameplay is often amazing, some clips are absurd (it’s not even all gameplay) – keeping track of what’s going on is non-trivial, but it’s definitely fun to watch. If you’ve got a spare quarter of an hour… go look! (Louis Wu 14:15:21 UTC)

  • Sorry, Cancer

Morpheus noticed a new Adult Swim bump (a short buffer or bumper between a TV show and commercials) that highlights the stats Bungie posted when Halo control was transferred to 343 at the end of March. (It went live last night, and can be seen at BumpWorthy, a site devoted to archiving Adult Swim bumps.) Their conclusion, while a bit depressing, might just be right. (Louis Wu 14:13:50 UTC)

  • Macaroni… cheese?

The Master Chief made an appearance in last week’s Annoying Orange – if you’ve WATCHED Annoying Orange before, and don’t think you can stomach an entire episode, jump to about 2:35. I apologize in advance for this link. (Louis Wu 14:12:41 UTC)

  • GamesRBad4U: Halo

Ogan Pavano let us know about GamesRBad4U, a videogame-based webcomic that shows how video game obsessions can interfere with real life. Last week’s comic focused on Halo. You know… I think I’ve met that guy. (Louis Wu 14:08:21 UTC)

  • Unggoy Husk

Sl’askia let us know that she’s Huskified a Grunt, to match up with her Elite… pretty cool!(Louis Wu 20:51:56 UTC)

  • To Infinity and Beyond

CMNeir has a new episode of Halo Reach Tricks – this one shows you how to get out of ONI Sword Base. They use the same technique that Physics Remastered documented almost a year ago – but they spend a LONG time exploring outside (it’s a 23 minute video). Invulnerable Grunts! Take a look!(Louis Wu 20:49:35 UTC)

The world is an incredible place, and today is the perfect day to honor that. So whether you’ve already seen this video or it’s new to you, take a moment to enjoy the Halo: Reach version of the 2008 Discovery Channel commercial “I Love the World.” And don’t blame me if you can’t get boom-de-ah-da out of your head after watching it. It’s not my fault those lyrics are so catchy, you know!

    P.S. Happy Earth Day. 🙂

  • Weekend Webcomic: A Fistful of Arrows p.10

Weekends and webcomics go hand in hand, and there’s no better day to celebrate that relaxing ritual than on Sunday. Today’s
Halo-themed Weekend Webcomic, which chronicles the unknown story of the Spartan named Jun, is brought to you by Levi Hoffmeier. Enjoy this incredible fan-made series, and if you have a comic you’d like to submit for possible future inclusion, send it to bsangel[at]halowaypoint.com!

  • A Meeting with Marty O’Donnell

Last summer, during HaloFest, Juan Gonzalez from HaloDestiny sat down with Marty O’Donnell for a 30-minute video interview – it’s full of fun details. If you love Marty’s compositions, and you want to know more about him and how he works… go watch! Thanks, TheOddOne. (Side note: about 18 and a half minutes in, Marty talks about “The Halo 1 Love Theme” – if you’ve never heard it, Marty released it, along with a bunch of other outtakes, back in 2002. The page for these is long gone from Bungie.net – but we archived the pieces for your listening pleasure. And last night, Zeouterlimits found a fan-performed version on YouTube. Go listen to the original – and the tribute!) (Louis Wu 14:23:49 UTC)
