  • Community Customs Spotlight: JDQuackers

    Game Informer

    From Hyokin:

The Space Monkeys return to their cages to sit in contemplative silence, their rage sated after drawing another batch of questions for that first dark and dreary day of the week: Monday. Isn’t that what they call it? It’s not important. The world is on autopilot, mentally asleep, and struggling in vain to extend their weekend just one more hour. And then, with a sound like a siren in the distance, they all awaken. Is it the end of the world? Have HR finally noticed how many people are dozing? No, of course not! It’s the Community Spotlight, cresting a hill in the distance and proclaiming merriment for all!

Today marks the swiveling of our Spotlight into the crowd below. The community that populates every facet of our collective Halo. What better way to start us down this crowded path than with the most famous television producer of all time? The man that convinced the great Hedgemony that audiences loved Fronk, that Fronk was the future! The producer is none other than JDQuackers, and the show, of course, is none other than Samurai Fronk. Don’t forget, if after reading this you have a burning question you want to see someone in the community answer, you can add it to the pile here for our crack team of Angry Space Monkeys to sort through.

    From MythicTyrant:

Into the portal and through outer space, and onto the Ark we go!
The Chief knows the way to properly slay, all of his Covenant foes… oh!

The longest and one of the most complex missions in the Halo 3 Campaign has now been added to Tyrant’s Halo 3 Legendary Guide. Why is this particular video so special? It features the man who helped bring the Tyrant’s guides to light, the very founder of HBO (halo.bungie.org), Mr. Louis Wu! Watch as the Chief tears his way through hordes of Covenant ground forces and a towering, menacing Scarab with the assistance of both 343 Guilty Spark and the Arbiter. If you haven’t soloed Halo 3 on Legendary yet, this guide will walk you through step-by-step on how to get the job done right.

Editor’s note: Language is mature. Proceed with caution.

  • Breaking In: Brandon Whitley

Brandon Whitley is a Graphics Engineer at Bungie, and has been for a year now. Wanna know how he got there? Go read the latest Breaking In article on Bungie.net. Wanna know what keeps him there? Free babysitting! (Yep, really. Go read.) (Louis Wu 15:35:47 UTC)

  • Some amazing figures coming from ThreeA

ThreeA is releasing some very high-quality Halo figures – starting with Carter. Kotaku’s got the teaser image (that wasn’t actually supposed to be released yet). Thanks, Hypertrooper. (Louis Wu 15:31:49 UTC)

  • The reasoning… needs work.

Over at NeoGAF, PsychoRaven pointed out a new episode of ScrewAttack that lists their Top 10 Franchises that Need to Die. A certain sci-fi shooter is at the head of the list. GAF in general wasn’t particularly pleased with the list in general… neither was our forum, when The Delanator highlighted it. Mostly, people didn’t like the REASONS certain games made the list. Go decide for yourself!(Louis Wu 15:21:39 UTC)

  • The First Date

  • The World Of Halo 4

Game Informer continues their Halo 4 coverage – yesterday’s offering was a look at the campaign. There’s not a lot of info there that hasn’t already been released (well, it might be new if you haven’t read their print article) – but the concept art that goes along with the text is truly beautiful. Go read! (Unless, of course, you’re trying to stay blind for the game’s release. For folks who don’t want to know anything about what they’ll be facing – skip this one.) Thanks, nillapuddin.(Louis Wu 15:04:31 UTC)

  • Breaking In – Brandon Whitley

Impressing the girls with love songs written in code…

  • Halo Speed Art

nillapuddin is on the hunt for Halo speed art – he found one showing off the Master Chief from Halo 4 (2 hours of painting, posted yesterday – I love this), and then some concept art done for ‘Halo Galaxy of Combat’ (not sure what that is), showing off some ODSTs near a glassed city. Pretty cool work!(Louis Wu 21:13:59 UTC)

  • From a Distance

Owen Thomas, from VezuviusProductions, let us know about From a Distance – it’s a Halo 3 tribute. I’m not sure you can really call it a montage; it takes a rather unique approach to showing gameplay on Halo 3 maps. It picks a fixed vantage point on each map, places a camera there… then shows some multiplayer carnage from that viewpoint. Gives you a cool sort of overview of map flow! (He calls it a ‘moving gallery of Halo 3’s great multiplayer’ – I would say that’s accurate.) Go watch!(Louis Wu 20:57:36 UTC)
