Reach. Bungie signs 10-yr deal with Activision. Multiplatform PS3.
Major things are going down at Bungie and in the Halo world.
Under the terms of the agreement, Activision will have exclusive, worldwide rights to publish and distribute all future Bungie games based on the new intellectual property on multiple platforms and devices. Bungie remains an independent company and will continue to own their intellectual property.
Expect a new killer series from Bungie. Will it be a first-person shooter? Will it be an RPG or other game type? Will it be cross-platform? Will there be a PC version? Will Activision sue the pants off Bungie after they build a killer game?
On May 3rd the HALO: Reach multiplayer beta launches. You can get access to the beta by inserting your HALO 3: ODST disc or by acquiring redeemable codes (which, apparently, several people on my buddylist did earlier this week).
On May 19th the HALO: Reach multiplayer beta will end. We will only be playing the beta for 2 weeks. : (
Bungie has recently said that Reach is the final Halo game. It’s the definitive HALO. Below is a video explaining what Reach is about.

Podtacular 225: Can’t Get Enough of Reach!
Download | Shownotes
This show is out a little late because of finals, but it’s finally here. Over the past couple of weeks, lots of news from the press has come out about the Halo: Reach Beta. So this week, we’re here to talk about all that news until next week when the beta comes out for all. Short show for this week because of the low submission count and no special guest this week. Enjoy

New Beginnings – Again
In the madness of yesterday, I’m afraid the newest film out of Bungie, ‘New Beginnings’, might have been overlooked, so I’m reminding you. It’s accessible in the latest Weekly Update, in downloadable and streaming formats, and it’s really, really worth the 6 minutes of your time. If you’re sort of new to the Halo franchise, you might not even know who Jason Jones is – he’s been out of the limelight for many years now. But his vision, and his ability to inspire greatness in the people around him, are some of the things that makes Bungie the unique studio that it is – and this video shows that his drive, what keeps him going every day, hasn’t really changed in YEARS. He (still) wants to make games you want to play. And the studio he founded attracts people who want the same thing. This video is about BUNGIE – it’s not about any one game (no games are even mentioned), it’s not about their publishers (past or present – again, no names at all) – it’s about the team. Who they are, what they do, and how they’re gonna keep doing it. In the wake of fears that Activision will “run Bungie into the ground”, and that Bungie has sold out (again), this video makes it clear that Bungie is who Bungie has ALWAYS been – a game company good enough to inspire a fan community that simply won’t go away. Here’s to the next 10 years! Go watch.(Louis Wu 15:43:38 UTC)

That was one HECK of a kill.
FyreWulff stopped by with word of a thread on Bungie.net, showing off a rather odd bug someone found in the Beta – an assassination went wonky, and the entire Noble Team appeared… and then died. Bizarre! (Louis Wu 15:30:33 UTC)

Last breath of Heresy
Riceatron grabbed a few screenshots of a kill that… works nicely in a totally different context. Check it! (Louis Wu 15:30:04 UTC)

Okay, I’m ready…
Well, yesterday was a rather crazy day; seems like many Halo fans spent it looking for codes to get into the Reach Beta. (Bungie dumped 1000+ codes on their front page last night, leaving people in a mad scramble to find a working one; they dumped another 100+ on OUR forum, and passed out a bunch more piecemeal. Seems like they might be done at this point.) If you didn’t get one – don’t fret, the Beta will be live for EVERYONE in just 2 days. In the meantime, here’s a grab-bag of Halo goodies I’ve seen over the last day or so. (This is by no means a complete list; things are crazy right now. It’s just some fun stuff.) First up: Leviathan whipped up funny little comic depicting life on Monday… for some players. (Louis Wu 15:22:53 UTC)

AH: Wanna be in Crysis 2?
I received a pretty sweet email this morning from our friends over at EA. Right now they are kicking off a contest where the winners actually get their name/gamertag inserted into the next Crysis game. Pretty sweet!
It looks pretty easy too…here are the details I got in the mail, enjoy!
We are giving 50 people the opportunity to have their name (or gamertag/psn ID) immortalized in Crysis 2 as graffiti.
The contest is open to residents of US, Canada, United Kingdom, and Germany. To enter follow @Crysis on Twitter and tweet one of the following:
- UK Residents: Hey @Crysis, I want you to put my name in the game! http://crys.is #Crysis2contestUK
- US/CAN Residents: Hey @Crysis, I want you to put my name in the game! http://crys.is #Crysis2contestNA
- German Residents: Hey @Crysis, Ich mochte meinen Namen im Spiel sehen! http://crys.is #Crysis2contestDE
The contest ends May 3rd and for more information you can visit our site http://crys.is or Facebook http://crys.is/F
Here are some examples of what your name could look like:

Good luck!

RT: Contest Update
Since starting our Halo: Reach friends and family code giveaways yesterday we’ve already given away four of the six codes. 7imekeeper is enjoying the beta as we speak thanks to the fact he listens to the drunktank. lilsly619 and thesolidhome are both enjoying the beta because they logged into the site and made a journal about Reach some time in the past 24 hours. We don’t yet know who won the code we gave away via our twitter account but we’re sure they’re having a blast.
Don’t be sad though, we’re still going to give away 2 more codes today! We are going to give one away via our YouTube channel so be sure you subscribe to it, and we are going to give one away via our Facebook page…so make sure you “like” us and comment on our status update regarding the Reach beta.
Time is wasting, so get to it!

Creating an artifact from the 26th century
The Halo Waypoint team did an interview with Eric Nylund recently, discussing an item you’ll be able to get your hands on later this fall – Halsey’s Journal, a labor of love included in both the Limited and Legendary Editions of Halo: Reach. The interview will be live on the Waypoint website early next week – but if you don’t want to wait that long, they’ve kindly given us permission to put it up a few days early. C’mon by and give it a read! Awesome stuff.(Louis Wu 04:43:03 UTC)
