HPC update info – from the source
A few days ago, Randy Pitchford posted a note on the Gearbox forums, saying that he’d answer as many questions as possible before the new year. Read the whole thread for questions, or start with Randy’s first answer. Lots and lots and LOTS of good info in there. Thanks to progamerz for the heads-up.

Longest, revisited
Back in July, we posted a preview for a Counter-Strike version of Longest. Its creator, Dylan Velasquez, wrote again so that we could give this map another home. You can grab a copy right here (252k, zipped, with the preview). Enjoy!

The online multiplayer fps Shangri-La
Some of you might remember kapowaz, who once frequented our forums. He hasn’t been around much recently, but a couple of days ago, he wrote a very eloquent paean to the multiplayer portion of Halo PC – go take a look. (If you’re at all interested in good web design, check out the rest of his site, as well…) Thanks to Ghôlsbane for the heads-up.

It’s after New Year’s, but…
Biomonky dropped off a photo of his Halloween (Haloween) Grunt hat and plasma pistol, made with acrylic paint, a cardboard box, newspaper, tape, and glue. Pretty nice!

Scavenger Hunt
Back. Sort of. Man… don’t go to Disneyworld if you’re not in top shape… at least not if you’re trying to see the whole place in 4 days with 3 kids. Anyway, I’m gonna be spending the next few days figuring out what got missed because people mailed stuff to me, personally, instead of to halo@bungie.org, and fixing coding that I managed to screw up before I left. In the meantime, you should go enjoy TheGladiator’s Guest One One Se7en strip. (Interestingly enough, this one has nothing to do with any of the scavenger hunts that have been running around here recently…)

I AM the I in AI… er, not.
And another comic gets an update, this time it’s Halo Babies. Go take a look, and, if you’re not a member, sign up so you can check out Gruntsbane’s cool new wallpaper. Apologies to mrsmiley, who sent in this info… a while ago. See, there’s a reason why Louis does this stuff. 😉

Flash Halo and a new E419
IXIGhandiIXI writes in to mention that 343GS.com has a new episode of EchoFourNineteen up in their downloads section. While you’re there, you might also want to check out the projects section, and the newly updated Halo flash game they’ve been working on. Nice!

Today’s guest One One Se7en looks at the exciting, thrilling, yet ultimately frustrating world of online Halo… over a modem.Update: Whoa! I screwed something up back there! You’ll notice that the previous guest strip peeks out on the right, and the links are messed up at the bottom. Ah, well, Louis can fix it if… er, when he gets back. He loves to have little tasks like that to keep his mind occupied.

The Other Halo Resolution
Oops. I flaked yesterday, when this One One Se7en was supposed to run, but it still makes enough sense. It’s corn after all. How difficult is corn? 😉

No Wonder They Need Help
What better way to start off the new year than with Halo: Resolution. They might need more than just help.

It finally happened.
As you probably know, I answer most of the email sent to this site. And I’ve done this for the past 3 years. Well… I snapped. So we have a new section here. It’ll be updated every so often. Welcome to my world.

Flashbacks, indeed.
Out of town… offline, for most of the time… seriously enjoying my New Year’s vacation… but STILL with time for a quick Calvin and Halo update. Thanks, Warbow! (And thanks, publicly, to the whole HBO crew, for filling in!) Online time costs cash per minute here, so this is it for me for a couple of days; be good, and don’t leave your keys in the warthog!

Happy New Year – Be with your loved ones!
The year is winding down, and for some of you it’s already 2004. For me it’s not, so I’d like to take the opportunity to wish all of you a most joyous new year. For some reason I’ve been especially nostalgic of late (I blame Wu’s work on library.bungie.org which makes it easier to go in the time travel machine here at HBO) and I marvel at how long we’ve been at this, together, all of us. Playing such a cool game and making new friends and forging strong relationships regardless of physical distance. A few years ago I would never have been traveling to Connecticut on a semi-regular basis, yet now it’s a done deal and I count Louis Wu as one of my dearest friends. I will follow him to the ends of this earth, on our mission to play fun games and share a laugh together. Isn’t that such a fine and noble quest? I think so.
I’ve made many other friends among the Wu LAN party regulars: KP, nof, Konrad9, Blackstar, Spenser, Juggler, etc. Then there are all my new NY Halo playing buddies, like Jynx, Fuhrman, M Scope, the guys at King Games, etc.
And we here at HBO are of course grateful to Bungie for making themselves available to us throughout the year. Sketchfactor himself is to be showered with kudos for keeping us all informed of the goings on within the walls of Bungie Studios, truly one of the most successful arms within Microsoft Game Studios. And now with the advent of the PC and Mac versions of Halo, we also would like to thank the dear folks at Gearbox and Destineer/MacSoft for making a dream actually come true!
Of course, the forum itself has been fertile ground for new relationships, and there are many, too many folks for me to list here that I consider good people and that I hope to someday meet up with. Even though I lay down the Ban Hammer from time to time, I really am not as grumpy as you may think. I love any and all communication we can share together as a group. We are all in this together. And I absolutely am thrilled that soon, hopefully very soon we will all have another venue, Halo 2, to meet up and share some ammo clips as we fight the virtual enemy.
Now having said all that, I am also very mindful of how we have other aspects of our lives besides this one little corner of the bitstream. We have our families, our ‘real life’ friends, and the neighborhood that we live in. So in the spirit of staying in touch with the real, physical world, I would like you all to indulge me:
In a few minutes, I’m going to shut down the forum for a few hours!
Now don’t get all in a huff. Take the opportunity to shut off your computer, breath some fresh air, and relax. It’ll be back soon enough.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
note: I haven’t actually tried shutting down the forum and I know I have the notes here somewhere on how to do it, but just in case something doesn’t work, not to worry, I’ll leave the forum as is.

Maximize your Online Game
Not living up to your full carnage potential? Never fear, Bungie is here! SketchFactor checks in over on Bungie.Net with Sketch’s Halo Mac/PC Players Companion Volume 1. There’s a lot of good info in there, people, so give it a good read!

We wants it!
Ack! Bungie Comics has been updated with a new strip! Also, check out the small article with a few tidbits of info about Frankie (who wrote the strip), and elusive artist Zoë. Next week? Hmmm…

Auld AIquaintance
As we wrap up 2003, the MC is desperately trying to find a New Year’s date in today’s One One Se7en. What an opportunist…
