  • Peter Jackson and MS – teaming up for MORE Halo

    by

    in
I was wrong – there’s MORE Halo news from Barcelona today, Halo Wars isn’t the end. Peter Jackson and Microsoft are teaming up to create Wingnut Interactive (no real website yet) – a new studio that will create “a completely new and original chapter in the Halo universe”, according to this 1Up story. No details yet… but stay tuned!(Louis Wu 17:36:49 UTC)

  • Wingnut Forms Game Studio

1Up is reporting that Peter Jackson and Microsoft are forming a new games studio, Wingnut Interactive. The announcement cites Jackson’s involvement in Halo 3 and a future Microsoft title.

UPDATE: 1Up has added some details to this item, fleshing out Jackson’s involvement. It no longer mentions Halo 3 specifically, but does say:

But perhaps more importantly, Microsoft revealed that Peter Jackson will co-write, co-design and co-produce a completely new and original chapter in the Halo universe in collaboration with Bungie Studios. He will also work future title based on an original property from Microsoft.

  • Bungie’s X06 Announcements

Bungie has announced two new projects today at X06. The first is a partnership with Peter Jackson and his talented crew to bring you another chapter in the Halo universe. The second is Halo Wars, a real-time strategy game being developed by Ensemble Studios. Get the scoop in the full story.

  • Live Video Feed from X06

Getting at the live video stream provided by the UK Xbox site seems to be a bit problematic, so here is an akamai cache link:

Nothing Bungie or Halo related so far. As Louis Wu pointed out at HBO there is also a live blog of the event at 1UP:

The really, really big news today from Microsoft is the announcement of ‘Halo Wars’, from Ensemble Studios (the guys behind Age of Empires, and other similar games) – a Halo Real-Time Strategy game! It hasn’t been announced on the live feed yet – but Luke Smith has announced it on 1Up. Stay tuned for more details!(Louis Wu 17:12:24 UTC)

  • X06 Starts NOW.

    by

    in
X06 coverage is going live very soon – the Xbox.com feed seems to be busted for most viewers, but keep trying. In the meantime, Luke Smith, from 1Up.com, is going to be liveblogging (thanks, Morangie), so if you can’t SEE what’s up, at least you can read about it. We’re not positive what’s coming from Bungie – but it’s a good bet that it’s big, and it’s Halo-related. Update: Thanks to c0ld vengeance for the direct video feed links (Hi | Lo)! (Low feed might be only audio… beware)(Louis Wu 16:56:25 UTC)

Sometimes, Stuntmutt is scary in his ability to mimic real people. Like in today’s One One Se7en. I mean… this could have come right out of a forum thread! (Maybe it did…)(Louis Wu 16:30:31 UTC)

  • Trevor Chesler’s Mjolnir Armor

    by

    in
Trevor Chesler has embarked on the creation process for a suit of Mjolnir armor – he’s shooting for a very high quality finished product. He’s just starting out right now, but you can see his gameplan, and the first few photos, on this page. As we get more from him, we’ll add them (and let you know). Check it out!(Louis Wu 13:25:35 UTC)

  • Rumors Swirl Ahead Of Microsoft’s X06 Event

A lot of sources today are spreading news that details of revelations to be made at Microsoft’s X06 event in Barcelona, Spain today.

3Suns pointed out material at 2old2play and Neoseeker in an HBO forum post, while CVG cites similar claims in a TeamXbox forum thread.

Some reports just say “something big”. Some say it’s a new Bungie game, not related to Halo, while others say the big thing is an Xbox announcement and not specific to any particular developer.

Some claims were remarkably particular, suggesting a new trailer, 64-player online matches and 1080p native resolution for Halo 3. That last item, I can almost assure you, is damn near technically impossible.

Given that TGS has just wrapped up in Japan and Microsoft’s year head start in the next-generation console race is just about up, it makes sense that the company would want to start making some noise right about now. Stay tuned for coverage of X06 as the event begins.

Just click the submit news and tips link on the right side of the page. And please try to steer clear of the top 10 things people ask for. Get creative!

What do you want to see in Halo Wars?

  • The Birth of a Tattoo

    by

agdTinMan stopped by our forum with the story behind Don Wan’s Spartan Tattoo (mentioned, and pictured, in last week’s Bungie Weekly Update) – great read! (If you follow the Flickr link he provides, there are other photos in her stream that may or may not look familiar…)(Louis Wu 19:52:49 UTC)

  • The Spartan Effect: Episode 2

    by

    in
The MPRRS went into something of a hibernation over the weekend… but a little kick-start this morning got reviewers reviewing again, and a movie stuck in the queue for 5 days was spit out this afternoon, with pretty high marks. It’s ‘The Spartan Effect: Episode 2’, from Rookie Rabbit Productions, and it continues the story of a team of Spartans faced off against the Covenant in Containment. This episode is as funny as the first one, with very high production values. Looking forward to future episodes! But let’s not get ahead of ourselves… grab a copy of Episode 2, in either WMP9 format (61.9 mb) or QuickTime format (53.4 mb), and get laughing!(Louis Wu 17:00:05 UTC)

  • The Mythical 40-Hour Gamer

    by

    in
3Suns ran across an article at Wired about ‘the Mythical 40-Hour Gamer‘, which points out one of the larger difficulties facing developers these days; with more and more older gamers out there, finding ways that make games playable and enjoyable for folks who fit their gaming in between ‘real-life’ activities while KEEPING it enjoyable for people who have much more time to devote to the activity is tricky. Halo is touted as a game that found the sweet spot – playable in short bursts, but engrossing for much longer periods. It certainly hit home here… go read.(Louis Wu 12:30:33 UTC)

  • We’re Gonna Need A Bigger Banshee

Rockslider‘s latest game-within-a-game that he plays exclusively with Halo 1 is called Shark; you use a Banshee underneath a bridge to induce Covenant units to leap off to their deaths. It’s the newest item on Bad Cyborg’s Fun and Challenges page for Assault on the Control Room.
