Halo 1 came out nearly six years ago. Halo 2 came out nearly three years ago, and until the release of bright, shiny, next-gen Gears of War, ruled the roost at Xbox Live. Halo 2 just logged it’s five millionth unique player, and will no doubt continue to be a fairly popular game as long as there are more first generation Xboxen in the field than their younger, 360 brethren.

With all those players, games, weeks, months and years under the bridge for Halo 1 and 2, what can one say about Halo 3 after three days?

Probably the easiest thing to do is just point out what’s changed.

Urban Reflex‘s Halo 3 blog, Ordained Insight, has several entries detailing his experience with the public beta in the past three days: weapons, equipment, interface, features, the lot.

This writeup of the Halo 3 press event by Damien “Angry Gamer” Sarcuni is more about cocktails and skirt-chasing than Bungie and Halo, so I’m at a loss at how to describe it. Here it is.

Today’s Ctrl-Alt-Delete tries to apply the rules of Heroes to the game of Halo and comes up with a predictably violent result.

Here’s a quick run-down on some sites with impressions of the Halo 3 Public Beta:

• GameSpot
• GamesDog
• GameInformer
• SlashDot
• TeamXbox

Louis Wu at HBO pointed out some I missed on this list in his post yesterday:

• Xboxyde
• Kotaku
• Gearheads of War

In other news:

Bungie’s #1 fan, Miguel “Ding” Chavez spilled the beans in the HBO forum on how they chose some of the Friends & Family beta participants.

Also, Dean Takahashi not only interviews Brian “SketchFactor” Jarrard at Bungie, but also posts Halo 3 Impressions.

Not to be outdone, Joystiq got ahold of Frankie, who gave the pre-Beta Update duties to Bungie newbie Luke Smith this week.

The UNSCDF is back. I hope they’re not jinxing themselves by interviewing interrogating me as one of their first new pieces of content.

Short update to the human equipment and weapons pages in the Halo 3 guide, with information on some of the equipment and weapons on tap in the Public Beta.

I went on a little expedition today to grab Super Paper Mario and pick up a Wii. Evidently Wii’s are still pretty hard to get these days. Every store on this side of Huntsville was completely sold out. After talking with some of the sales people, I heard stories of people waiting outside their stores until the shipments come in. It’s May for crying out loud?! I’d like to have one, but I’m not sure I’m gonna break out the ole tent and hot chocolate to get my hands on it this late in the game. This is surprising. Oh well, GG Nintendo for creating a kick butt console that everyone and their mother wants (literally). I will now do what every red blooded geek would do.. turn to the large system of tubes they call the internet for help.

If anybody sees one in your neck of the woods or knows where I can get one let me know.

BTW: Target on University has 2 360 Elites if anybody wants one. I hear those are not so easy to come by as well.
