Evil Otto Smiles on VGR
Over at Video Gaming Refugees, Yaters has posted an interview with Dave “Evil Otto” Candland, Bungie’s Interface Designer. It’s in two parts (Part One | Part Two) due to the characters-per-post limit on their forum. It’s a pretty interesting read – fascinating tidbits about design issues that did (and didn’t) work out, ways that Bungie had to account for changes in XBL, and more. (For what it’s worth – the ‘Picking your Gamertag’ article that Dave thinks is gone from B.net is actually still there.) (Louis Wu 13:54:12 UTC)

Believe.
Spu7n1k went to another “Believers” event in Singapore – his sister took a bunch of pics. The Rocket Launcher was pretty big… but the Spartan Laser was Lilliputian. I guess you can’t win ’em all! (Nice UNSCDF shirt!)(Louis Wu 13:00:18 UTC)

Revenge
Bzerker let us know yesterday about Revenge, a new video from Treeskunk and Team Conquest. As the title might suggest, it’s the story of… well, revenge. Lots of fun action. 12 minutes long, roughly 100 mb, depending on version – you can download it from GamingTV. Go watch! (There’s also a ridiculously large version hosted at Treeskunk, linked in this Team Conquest thread.)(Louis Wu 11:24:29 UTC)

Honk if you love Cortana
Awesome. Skull Leadr works at a retail design firm in the Detroit area – he decided to show his love for Halo 3 by putting together some graphics for the back window of his jeep. NICE! If you live near Detroit, keep an eye out for his rig!(Louis Wu 10:55:19 UTC)

(There’s also a new press release for Halo ActionClix over at FileFront.)(Louis Wu 10:50:43 UTC)

Not a bad percentage of the total
Stingraid noticed a list at Guns Lot – The Fifteen Most Influential First Person Shooter Video Games. The comments would suggest that there are lots of fans that disagree with some of the choices – but hey, Halo’s there. And so’s Marathon… and Pathways, even!(Louis Wu 10:46:54 UTC)

CJ Cowan to speak in Montreal
Anton P. Nym noticed that CJ Cowan will be speaking at //ADAPT 2007 in Montreal on September 27. It’s not an inexpensive conference – with an earlybird discount, prices are still up around $400 for the Masters programs – but if you were headed there anyway, CJ’s discussion of Halo 3 is a really nice bonus. Info on the conference can be found at Animation World Network or CGSociety. (The //ADAPT website requires Flash 9.)(Louis Wu 10:29:34 UTC)

Set Your Spoiler Preference Settings
—
by
The second part of the new spoiler system is now in place; user account level front page preferences.
Click the My account link near the top of your account box in the lower left-hand column. You should see a tab called “roles”. Here you’ll see a list of all the spoiler settings, just like on the front page: no spoilers, no H3 spoilers, no old spoilers, all spoilers, and only spoilers.
Choose the selection that you want to be your default front page view; the page view you see when you’re logged into Rampancy.net. You can still override that view at any time, from the front page, by choosing any of the spoiler views listed at the top of the front page. This setting doesn’t prevent you from seeing any particular item; it just customizes the front-page display only according to your preferences. Spoilers can still show up on other pages, or in search results. If you want to browse around and still not see any spoilers, use the keyword browsing page and make sure to exclude spoilers.
This works similarly to the spoiler system at HBO which I assume you’re all familiar with, but there is a slight difference, which I’ll try to explain in less than three paragraphs.
HBO does this by setting a browser cookie when you make your spoiler preference selection, just like it does when you set your viewing preferences in the forum. That machines that for the browser you are using, on that particular computer, your spoiler preferences are set. If you switch to a different web browser or go to a different computer, that other setup doesn’t know who you are and doesn’t know your spoiler preferences.
R.net does this according to your account login. This means that as long as you use your username and password to login, the site will remember your front page spoiler preferences regardless of what browser you’re using or what computer you are on. If you click the “remember me” button on the user login page, then the site should keep you logged in until you expressly logout, so your spoiler preferences will always be remembered. NOTE: Only do this on your own computer!
The first time you set these preferences, you’ll be redirected to the default home page, which is the nospoilers view. Just click the home link and you’ll be redirected to your new default page view. As before, the default view is no spoilers, and the default page view for all anonymous users is no spoilers. That, combined with this new system, means that nobody should be seeing any spoilers on the front page unless they really, really want to.
Have fun and let me know if you have any problems.
One, two, three… damn.

Big Bang
Awesome new video at Game Invasion – 3:41 worth of Bungie employees (Marty, man, cut your hair) discussing what THEY think Halo 3 will give you, and what you’re going to be giving back. Hype? Sure. But good hype. Go watch. Thanks, GetOverIT Enor.Update: Schedonnardus points out that there are actually TWO new videos today – the second one, Better than Ever, is all about how passionate the devs are about this game.
