Podtacular community: ImpulsiveNinja needs our help
I received a heart-wrenching email from AuroraX this morning:
Hey Foo Mo. One of the members here called ImpulsiveNinja (real name Jason Huffstutler) is going through an extremely rough time in his life. He is 17 years old and his dad is dying. His dad has had hepatitis for years now, and it has finally overtaken him. He is in the hospital in a coma and on life support. He will not be able to recover, and the only way he will live is if he stays in a coma and on life support for the rest of his life. Their family has made the incredibly hard decision that his suffering should end, and they took him off of life support today. He is sedated so he will not feel anything and he will pass peacefully, but he isn’t expected to live more than 24 hours. Jason aka ImpulsiveNinja has been a member of the community for a little while now, and he really looks up to you and the other leaders here, and it would mean a lot to him if the podtacular community did something kind for him during this terrible time. I don’t mean anything big, just something so that he knows we are there for him during this time.
Jason could use our help. What I plan on doing is making a collage card of some type with names, notes, and graphics from his friends at the Podtacular community. If you would like to add something to the card, please put it in the comments along with your gamertag and/or name. If you would like to send a graphic please send it to podtacular@gmail.com. I’ll add all of these up shortly and send them to Jason to let him know we care. And please, if you’re a praying person, pray for Jason and his family in this extremely difficult time. AuroraX will be visiting him soon and will keep us updated.

When Shipping Departments Screw Up
Wow. nash–housewares found a thread on an Italian forum with some pictures that, if they’re what they look like, do NOT bode well for keeping Halo 3 secrets until launch day. Hugh Hancock’s discussion of the Game Content Rules mentioned, almost incidentally, Machinima Festival Europe 07, taking place in Leicester, UK in mid-October. The deadline for submissions is TOMORROW – but if you can make that deadline, and your work meets the submission guidelines, you should think seriously about entering. Content Rules, Machinima, and More
Hugh Hancock wrote up the full discussion of his conference call with Microsoft about the Game Content Usage Rules we mentioned yesterday. He mentions Halo specifically, puts forth some very common-sense arguments to some of the overreactions that hit the net soon after the Rules did, and even manages to squeeze in an xkcd reference. You can’t do better than that. (He also suggests you read an article written by Fred von Lohmann, of the Electronic Frontier Foundation, on this subject – he was also in on this conference call, and, unlike Hugh, IS a lawyer. Fred’s article is pretty positive as well.) Bottom line from yesterday (“Don’t Worry, Be Happy”) still stands. As long you’re not making “Cortana does Cleveland” or something…(Louis Wu 18:37:58 UTC)

September’s 360 – a Halo fest
We occasionally post magazine scans of Halo articles, though we never post stuff before the issue’s off the newsstand shelves, and we never post stuff from magazines that have specifically asked to be removed from our site. One thing that hasn’t happened before, though, is that until now, we have not been contacted by a magazine and asked to show off some of their Halo content before it’s available for purchase at your local retailer. 360 Magazine, in the UK, changes that for us. Staff writer Gavin Mackenzie contacted us about their upcoming Halo Special Collectors Issue, due on newsstands on September 6 (that’s next Saturday). They’re in the UK, but Barnes and Noble in the US will carry these as well (though likely later than September 6). He sent along the cover for the article, as well as teasers for some of the Halo content (one | two). Even the parts of the magazine that have nothing to do with Halo have a Halo theme – check out the design of the Reviews section this month. If you’re somewhere you can buy this – you should.
