A new Reach easter egg surfaced this weekend – we’re not going to front-page the egg itself at this point, because it was found in a way that some disapprove of (the triggers for the egg were discovered in the Reach code, rather than in-game), but Bry created a fun video using the result that stands really well on its own. The new Xbox Dashboard update has been released in preparation for the release of Kinect later this week. The update adds ESPN support and Video Chat via Kinect of the Xbox Vision Cam. Make sure you update all the other applications on your Xbox including Facebook, Netflix, Last.fm and Zune; looks like Twitter missed out. You’re also going to need to go to edit your Avatar so it and all your avatar items can be updated to the new Avatar appearance. It also looks like you have to enter all your login info for the applications again, except Netflix.

Wow, I’m sorry to be writing this so late… but I’m also surprised I have to write it at all. I was sorting through the entries for the Guilt O’ Lantern contest, and was THRILLED that there were almost 200 entries. Then I started looking at them – and realized that a huge number don’t qualify for Rule #2: they have to be at least 640×480 in size. Maybe it’s the advent of cellphone cameras, or maybe it’s just that folks don’t want to take the time to upload large images – but by the time I’d removed the ineligible entries, we were down to well under 150 entries. smick6 has been busy in his workshop – the latest result is a Halo: Reach M6B pistol, which you can buy on eBay right now. Handmade from various materials, including styrene and clay, molded, then cast as a solid urethane plastic final product. Weighs about a pound and a half. Gorgeous! (He also offers a non-painted DIY kit – it’s cheaper, but you do your own work.)
