An Epic Waiting to Happen
Richard Ross sent word of a couple of academic articles about Reach – as odd as that sounds. That is – these are articles written about the Reach storyline, but from a scholarly viewpoint. Halo: Reach as epic draws parallels between Reach and the Greek ‘epic circle’ style of storytelling. (It’s marred by a confusion between the character of Catherine Halsey and that of Cortana, the AI based on Halsey’s mind – but otherwise is a pretty interesting read.) Halo: Reach as practomime looks at how the gameplay itself tells its own aspect of the Reach story. Both were written by Roger Travis, for the blog ‘Play the Past’. Both take a decidedly thoughtful approach to the fun-oriented video game. Give ’em a read! (Louis Wu 22:58:35 UTC)

They do stats. Not shots.
This week’s Halo Humpday Challenge was against the HaloCharts crew – and the fact that the writeup is not a Top Story on Bungie.net should tell you who won. (But it doesn’t, actually.) Go read it – It’s a decent writeup, and it sounds like there was a lot of fun being had. Better luck next time, HC crew!(Louis Wu 22:32:10 UTC)
