It’s going to be a mad week for Battlefield fans and the franchise alike, and it’s all kicking off today with the launch of a new game, Battlefield Play4Free. As you can guess from the rather clever title, this is a free online FPS that contains elements from Battlefield 2, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and even Battlefield Heroes. Sign up and gameplay are completely free, so why not check it out from some free Battlefield fun.

Tomorrow, Battlefield takes over Xbox Live’s Deal of the Week, with all the DLC for Bad Company 2 available at half price or better. This will include the massively successful Vietnam pack, Onslaught Mode as well as the SPECACT Upgrade Bundle and Kit Shortcut Bundle Pack.
That’s not all though, as the Arcade multiplayer hit Battlefield 1943 will also be available to download at just half price. All of these deals will be up on the Marketplace tomorrow for Gold members.
Since these are such great deals, there’s a good chance a lot of people will be getting them. Why not organise a Weekend Hunt and go for those achievements as a community!

Last year on April Fools Day, Bungie teased that Halo: Reach would be all about chess and going back to roots of strategic gameplay. It was a great tease and people were actually a little sad that the game type wasn’t included in the game. Well guess again, because a year later, this April Fools has become reality and Bungie has released the gametype that will let you play chess in Halo: Reach. Achievement Hunter teased this feature in their latest Fails of the Weak and now have a “How To” video detailing how you can set up Halo to play chess.

NeoGAF’s Hitmonchan107 found a couple of cool news tidbits – the next batch of McFarlane Halo Reach figures has been announced, and Scott Metzger, VFX artist on the “Deliver Hope” video, talked to Chaos Group about the project. Good stuff!(Louis Wu 19:11:27 UTC)
