  • Test Night with a Cartographer: 2.1.12

    From AgentPaperCraft:

Test Night with Crafty is a weekly event dedicated to the forgers of Waypoint as convenient means of testing content for matchmaking consideration. It is also a great way to get constructive feedback on your map variants and game types. Your content will also be observed by a secret member who reviews and suggests maps for matchmaking; this could mean thousands may eventually battle on your creations!

Last week’s event was amazing. We had a great time testing a variety of community-made maps. Everyone enjoyed themselves and learned a few new things about forging in Halo: Reach. Join us this week as we focus on large-scale heavy variants of both Forge World and DLC content.

  • Halo 4 indirect info – from toys

wwm0nkey posted these pictures at NeoGAF over the weekend, but it was a busy weekend; he found some boxes for the Jada Toys die-cast vehicles coming out in August at the Idle Hands blog. The artwork is placeholder-only… but it’s interesting to see what vehicles will be returning for Halo 4!(Louis Wu 17:40:28 UTC)

  • Warthog Diaries: Episode 1

Revenant1988 came by with a fun writeup of some group BTB activity he calls ‘Warthog Diaries: Episode 1’. Sounds like an entertaining evening!(Louis Wu 17:36:58 UTC)

  • Halo Reach Tricks: Hiding Spots

CMNeir is back with another Trick video – this one points out hiding places in Halo: Reach multiplayer maps. Some are clever, but some are simply obnoxious – use these at your own peril. Remember – in custom games, where everyone is choosing to be there, this sort of thing is far less annoying than it is in Matchmaking. (Louis Wu 17:33:32 UTC)

    From Alex:

This is a nice little Halo: Reach snippet from MLG pro Strongside, which he got in a Zealot 1v1. After failing to snipe his enemy twice, Strongside decides to take to the skies in a creative fashion to get a better angle. Enjoy!

Chris from Elders.TV let us know about a new series called ‘Halo Spotlight‘ – it focuses on sites around the Halo community. The first installment looked at idleduck.com, while the second (posted this weekend) highlights the work of Anniversary Tournament Gaming, a site devoted to head-to-head gaming using gameplay from the Anniversary lists in Halo: Reach. Interesting stuff!(Louis Wu 17:23:53 UTC)

  • DIY Bungie-themed iPod case skin

padraig08 was unhappy that he couldn’t show his love for Bungie while listening to music in public – so he designed his own skin for his iPod case. And he made the image available to you, if you want to follow suit. Nice! (Louis Wu 17:09:55 UTC)

  • BTF#8: Wiretapping the Cosmos

Dani stopped in yesterday with the newest Beyond the Frontline editorial at Forward Unto Dawn – this one was written by Dangerous Dave, and it looks back at ‘Conversations of the Universe’, a small booklet included with the Halo 2 Limited Edition. Dave laments its neglect (and discusses some of the great branches that could grow from it). Do not fear – Frankie sez it’s still relevant. (Louis Wu 17:03:05 UTC)

From SuperFastHD and submitted by Ben:

Helljumper is a fan-made web series based on Microsoft’s acclaimed video game franchise, Halo. Adapted from the short story, “Dirt,” by Tobias S. Buckell, it tells the story of a few human ODSTs as they fight through 27 years of brutal war with the Covenant. They evolve from a rag tag group of recruits in the UNSC to being cold battle hardened veterans that are shadows of their former selves.

In episode one, the Rookie drops onto New Jerusalem. He finds lone ODST, Gage Yevgenny, dying near a Pelican crash site. Refusing to be rescued, Gage begins to tell the young Rookie about how he got here and to not make the same mistakes he did.

  • Community Member of the Week: The Little Moa

Every Monday, we feature a community member who does one or more of the following things: routinely goes above and beyond for their fellow forum members, is a positive and active member of the community, and/or sends me mass amounts of cat pictures. This week our Community Member of the Week is The Little Moa. Read about his Halo preferences below, then hit his profile to learn why he loves Reach so much, which may or may not have something to do with everybody’s favorite extra-terrestrial flightless bird….

    Community Member of the Week

    Gamertag: The Little Moa.

Previous or current clan/community: Just friends and Waypoint’s community.

Halo games you are currently playing: Halo 3: ODST, Reach and Anniversary.

Favorite map, game type and playlist: Powerhouse, Zero Bloom Slayer, and Anniversary Classic.

Least favorite map, game type and playlist: Uncaged, Invasion, and Team Snipers.

    Halo weapon specialty/preference: Ordnance.

    Halo playing style: Offense.

Anything else we should know? I have been an active Halo player since 2006 when I bought Halo PC. I was clueless to any sort of storyline and tended to just hit up Sidewinder in a local game and drive around in a Ghost for a while until I was bored. I plan on being active on Waypoint as long as Halo lives, which, of course, after 10 years, is still going strong!

  • Operation: Expanded Context: Initial RE

DayandKnightly has begun a project he calls ‘Operation: Expanded Context’ – it’s a chronological read-through of the Halo fiction, and should provide fans with some interesting insights. A teaser is up now, to give you a taste of what’s to come. Check it out! (Louis Wu 18:12:28 UTC)

  • Anniversary Terminal Analysis

Cox let us know that some fans from the Halo Création community put together an analysis of the Halo Anniversary Terminals. The original is in French, so he provided a Google Translate link. Some interesting info in there!(Louis Wu 18:07:05 UTC)
