The latest news about the Halo series of games from Microsoft

  • Exploiting the love

I totally forgot to post this yesterday – it went live Monday night, but Tuesday was a very, very bad day. I didn’t ignore it because I didn’t like it – it was just an oversight. Cody Miller continued his series of Lonely Island parodies – Sh*t in a Box takes a look at pricing for special editions. I’ve been humming this all morning…(Louis Wu 16:21:53 UTC)

  • A slightly early look at Reach Screens

It looks like EB Games Australia was the first site on the internet to break the embargo on Reach screenshots – you can see eight shots (in relatively low res) directly on their site, plus 3 more that never got linked (9 | 10 | 11). These are the same screens that Game Informer used in their print story – so if you were one of the thousands who checked out the photographed pages that circulated the internet last week, here’s your chance to take a better look. Thanks to Kakansho for the heads-up – the thread of discussion is already quite long! (Louis Wu 16:11:59 UTC)

  • Hide, Seek, Snap – Round 5 won, Round 6 live

This batch of Hide, Seek, Snap screens must be much easier – we had four responses in a 3-hour span last night. The first successful recreation was sent in by rvbsithhead, who won another Sgt. Johnson code for Firefight. Swing by and see what you can do with the Round 6 shot! (Louis Wu 16:11:34 UTC)

  • Lots of Halo Stuff for Sale

Austin Childres is selling a very large collection of Halo schwag – go visit the auction page on eBay for a full description. Action figures, books, games… it’s a lot of stuff. Starting bid is $350, and there are still four and a half days. He’s trying to buy his first car!(Louis Wu 16:11:00 UTC)

  • Blood Line #5 – Cover and Summary

CaptainTony pointed out that the cover for Blood Line #5 (the latest Halo comic series from Marvel) is on Marvel’s website, along with a summary. Sounds pretty grim!(Louis Wu 16:10:34 UTC)

  • Halo Clairvoyance Chapter 1

Halochief89 stopped in to say that the Halo Clairvoyance story has a new chapter up (though the artwork for it won’t be coming for a bit). Go read it at DeviantART.(Louis Wu 16:10:00 UTC)

  • RT: Be a Hero! Help Haiti Earthquake Victims by playing Halo.

The guys at Bungie have put together a couple great promotions to help the earthquake victims in the Republic of Haiti. They are donating 100% of the profits they make from a special edition Superintendent tee to the American Red Cross as well as all merchandise they sell in their store until the end of February.

You can also help by playing some Halo 3 or ODST online this Wednesday or Thursday while wearing a special emblem on your Spartan. For every 1,000 players wearing the emblem, Bungie will make a $100 donation (with a max of $77,000) to the Red Cross. You can find all the details on the event here. Rooster Teeth is proud to support the cause and we hope that you’ll join us online on Thursday at 8 PM Central for a Halo 3 playdate. At that time, please send game invites to: JoeAct, DGgeoff, BurnieBurns, ahGus, Monki5225 or BrandonKFA . We’d love to play some grifball and slayer games but what we really want is to see everyone with the special Be a Hero emblem that bungie has designated. Remember, for every thousand players we have, $100 will be donated to the Haiti relief effort.

  • Be a Hero – Gameplay Phase Starts Tonight!

A reminder: The 48 hour period during which your choice of emblem worn on Xbox LIVE in Halo 3 or ODST can contribute to Bungie’s financial donation to the Haiti relief effort begins in just four and a half hours – be sure to visit the Be A Hero page and read the instructions for properly setting your emblem so that your gametime counts! (That was a really awkward sentence. Let’s try that again. Visit the Be A Hero page to learn the exact heart-based emblem to put on your Halo 3 Spartan or ODST Marine. Then, wear it online between Wednesday just after midnight through Thursday just before midnight – both PST – and you will count towards the $100 per thousand players that Bungie will be contributing to the Haiti Relief effort. Was that better?)(Louis Wu 03:31:15 UTC)

  • Podtacular Top 10

I have been debating this for a while, and I’ve told some people about it last year, but it’s time to make the announcement. Podtacular will have its own Top 10 video series presented by Pod TV. There are plenty of other Top 10 series out there as I’m sure you all are aware of, but I wanted to give Podtacular the chance to have its own, solely for Podtacular. Now, you won’t have to be a Podtacular member to submit; everyone gets a fair chance.

The primary format of the Podtacular Top 10 will be generic with a few themed specials thrown in. Right now, the plan is to have a show every month. I will be the sole judge of the clips until I need or choose to have help. Clips can range from campaign to hilarious mishaps to crazy/skilled kills. Anything goes in terms of game play and multiple clips can be submitted, even ODST.

To submit your clips, sent an e-mail to top10(at)podtacular(dot)com with a link to the file share slot your clip is in along with the following items: a brief description of what the clip is of, about what time the event in the clip starts (this will help with long game films, like campaign) and the gamertag of the submitter/originator. Please give credit to the appropriate person when submitting.

If all turns out well and the two are close enough, the top three in the top 10 will be announced on the Callins and Tales from the Foxhole show. I’m really looking forward to what you guys have to submit. There will be a link to a form you can fill out here on the home page soon. Happy Fraggin’.

H3AsiiM has released ‘In the Clutch, Episode 2‘ – it’s a Top 5 Clutch Plays video showing off some key team-saving action. Great stuff! Thanks to Bungie’s Comm Chatter for the heads-up.(Louis Wu 18:27:26 UTC)

  • Halo Podcasts for All

Next week has a couple of community podcasts broadcasting live – Zoxin It Up! LIVE will be hosting a Game Night on January 22, and the Running Riot will be hosting Bungie.net Ninja Duardo on January 25. Thanks, urk.(Louis Wu 18:25:24 UTC)
