  • AH: AH visits Mega64!

Ahoy! Tonight I bring you the first of many videos that we shot at PAX East 2010. We kick it off right with the boys from Mega64 bringing the funny. Enjoy this quick little talk with them.

Also, if you find them interesting enough to visit on the web, you can check out their site at Mega64.com. Let them know I sent you.

  • Custom Lightmaps in Halo CE

In other Halo CE news, we got word of Precipice – it’s one of the first maps to benefit from custom lightmaps. The team has managed to import Tool’s default lightmaps into 3ds max – and can now render some gorgeous maps that are much better than what you can get out of Tool. The bar continues to be raised!Update: Siliconmaster482, the mapmaker for Precipice, clarified that though custom lightmaps are PLANNED for the map, the screenshots visible now are using the lower-quality Tool-generated maps. Oops!(Louis Wu 10:57:32 UTC)

  • Halo 2 – in Halo CE

MattDratt pointed out a post at Halomaps.org showing off (well, letting you download, but also showing off via screenshots) some Halo 2 maps remade for Halo CE. They look AMAZING; it’s hard to tell you’re NOT playing Halo 2.(Louis Wu 10:56:55 UTC)

  • Out of Reach, Chapter 3

The next chapter of ‘Out of Reach’ (the wish list for the game being created on Kombo.com – we mentioned Chapters 1 and 2 Thursday) went live yesterday – it focuses on starting weapons. Most of the discussion is about the Assault Rifle, with some pistol speculation tossed in. Give it a read! Coming later today: Chapter 4, Power Weapons.(Louis Wu 10:56:34 UTC)

  • AH: Weekend Hunt – 4/3/2010

Hope you guys have been enjoying these so far, because there’s a bigger, brighter future on the horizon for our Gamenights. I don’t want to spoil the surprise with too many details, but let’s just say it’s going to benefit all of us… and more.

For this weekend’s gaming session, RealDeal211 will be hosting Battlefield 2: Modern Combat trying to gather some of those tricky multiplayer achievements, so the more people the better!
Things will be kicking off this Saturday, April 3rd, Noon CST
Want in on the action? Then contact RealDeal211 on his RT page.

As an added treat for you, Major Nelson has tweeted a link to some free MW2 Night Vision goggles for your Avatar, but be quick as they’re only free until this Sunday. Enjoy, and Happy Easter!

  • AH: Weekend Hunt: BF2: MC April 10th 2010

Yo, Knuckles here, and just an FYI, next week’s Weekend Hunt is going for a wider audience in terms of getting people in on these. And what’s the best way to broaden our exposure? VIDEOS! or Something. Anyway, we’re still doing Battlefield Bad Company 2: Modern Combat, it’ll start at 12 PM PT / 3 PM ET / 8 PM GMT on April 10th, which is next Saturday.

So let me know in the comments if you can make it, and we’ll try to get these working. In theory, if enough of us do it, we don’t need to track eachother down to play, just get into the game and the majority will be there for a common purpose.

  • Deliciously Deadly Peanut Butter and Chocolate

The Bungie Weekly Update is full of clarifications, cool factoids, awesome high-res pictures, and silly movies. If you’re thinking of playing the Beta next month, you should read this. Twice. (It is, as always, available in a slightly less resource-intensive format in our Weekly Update Archive.)(Louis Wu 00:48:34 UTC)

  • RT: Happy Anniversary

    Hey Everyone!,
Sorry today’s comic is so late, but we were scrambling to get ready for our Alamo show (which was awesome – thanks for coming out!). Anyway, you can’t be mad at me because it’s totally our anniversary.

  • AH: Mega Man 10 Tips/Thoughts

Hello everyone, Fragger here to give you all some tips on Mega Man 10! Normally I would make a video that almost no one would watch explaining how you CAN get the full 200 in Mega Man 10 but I thought that this would actually be read (I hope).

The Hard Rock Achievement: This is very easy to pull off on Easy if you do the Pump Man stage. Just play to the boss room once to find were enemies come from (and stay ABOVE the water whenever possible). Then exit and try the level again. Also falling to your death/spikes do void this achievement.

Don’t go for Mr Perfect right away: Going for the “No hit” achievement right away will drive you insane as you play this. You really do need to know the levels/bosses in order to get this. Mega Man 10 still does not have a “Save Anywhere” system; you can only save after you beat a level (and even after Wily stages!). But you can shoot for this . . .

You can get most of the achievements in one play: In my first playthough I got: Trusty Sidearm (Beat the 8 bosses with my Mega Buster), Whomp Wily! (Beat the game), No Coffee Break (Beat without using Items), Tenacious (No Continuing) and Invincible (No Deaths) on Easy Mode! I was very close to beating the game in under one hour (for the Blue Bomber achievement) but missed it by five minutes! Being able to save after each Wily stage is a godsend for this game but (from what I have heard on the internet “streets”) you can only save between Wily stages on Easy mode so watch out!

Practice, Practice, Practice! You can practice EVERY level (Time Attack) and every boss (Challenges) even the Wily and Mid-level ones! Use those to help you nail the Mr. Perfect achievement and not pull your hair out!

So that is all for now and if people ask enough (and I figure it out) I will do some level/boss guides in the future! See ya later!

UPDATE! Just did a bit more playing of the game and found that using Proto Man does not void achievements unlike in 9. This means you can play as the character that has: Weapon Charging and the Slide (!!!!!). That will make Mr. Perfect a TON easier. I found this by getting Hard Rock on another account. Hope this helps even more!

  • AH: Final Fantasy XIII: Cid Raines Boss Fight

The weekend is upon us, and I don’t want anyone going into it unprepared. Therefore, I present to you, a video showing how to beat Cid Raines in FFXIII. Hope it helps!

  • Spartan Backup

Tony ‘ubald’ Marcotte dropped off another render; this one’s called ‘Spartan Backup’. “Badass” doesn’t do it justice. Go check it out.(Louis Wu 19:44:22 UTC)

  • Reach Multiplayer – Still max 16 players

It’s been mentioned a few times that the maximum number of players in a multiplayer match in Halo: Reach would be slightly increased from the max 16 currently in Halo 3. According to Brian Jarrard earlier today, that WAS the plan – but is no longer. Reach multiplayer will support a maximum of 16 players. (It will handle 16 much better than Halo 3 does.)(Louis Wu 19:24:39 UTC)

  • Teabag Prevention: – Citadel

Brian Gilmore and Jake108 both let us know about the latest Teabag Prevention article from the Geekscape crew – this one focuses on Citadel. Go see how you can better use the map to your advantage!(Louis Wu 19:08:15 UTC)

  • Friday Caption Fun, Round 86

Hey – it’s Friday! That means it’s time for Friday Caption Fun, at Hawty McBloggy’s. Nice captions from last week’s pic, and a new shot of a pretty wild vehicle – go play!(Louis Wu 16:26:09 UTC)

  • We need these on Guardian

Total awesomeness – LeeKegan, of the 405th, whipped up a Brute Mauler, and it’s gorgeous. Thanks, urk.(Louis Wu 16:23:59 UTC)

  • Firefight Friday: Blitzkrieg

FyreWulff is back with another dose of Firefight Friday – this one is called ‘Blitzkrieg’, and can be played on either Heroic or Normal difficulty, on Last Exit. NO SNIPERS! (In honor of yesterday’s faux ViDoc, it’s chess-themed.)(Louis Wu 15:50:10 UTC)
