Halo 4 Matchmaking Update: 8.5.13
Welcome to week 4 of the Halo 4 Global Championship! This week contains the largest variety of game types. Aptly named “Rumble Grab Bag,” featured game types include UNSC, Covenant and Forerunner Slayer as well as FFA King of the Hill (KOTH) and FFA Oddball. Here is the map / game type break down for this week:
Haven Solace Abandon Adrift Skyline Monolith Landfall FFA KOTH

FFA Oddball

UNSC Slayer

Covenant Slayer

Forerunner Slayer

Each of the Slayer variants this week equip competitors with the corresponding precision rifle and automatic weapon in a single, preset Loadout. This is done to vary the game type from last week’s Rumble Pro selection, and also because the secondary pistols for each category greatly differ from one another. Also, offering the Assault Rifle, Storm Rifle, and Suppressor in the secondary slot creates a consistent experience across all three Slayer game types. Here are the Loadouts for each Slayer variant:
UNSC Slayer
Loadout Pro BR Primary Weapon Battle Rifle Secondary Weapon Assault Rifle Grenades 2x Frag Armor Ability None Tactical Package Resupply Support Upgrade Explosives Covenant Slayer
Loadout Pro Carbine Primary Weapon Carbine Secondary Weapon Storm Rifle Grenades 2x Plasma Armor Ability None Tactical Package Resupply Support Upgrade Explosives Forerunner Slayer
Loadout Pro LightRifle Primary Weapon LightRifle Secondary Weapon Suppressor Grenades 2x Pulse Armor Ability None Tactical Package Resupply Support Upgrade Explosives For FFA Oddball and FFA King of the Hill, we’ve varied the settings a bit and optimized for the Halo 4 Global Championship, with settings such as progressive Hill movement and static Oddball spawning enabled.
FFA Oddball
Game Settings Score to Win 150 Time Limit 12 minutes Oddball Options Ball Count 1 Ball Spawning Static Carry Points 1 point Carrier Kill Points No Points Automatic Pickup Enabled Hot Potato Timer Disabled Random Potato Timer Disabled Carrier Visibility Enabled Loadout Usage Personal Respawn Settings Respawn Time 5 Seconds Suicide Penalty 3 Seconds Death Cam Disabled Infinity Settings Personal Ordnance Disabled Equipment Motion Tracker Enabled Sensor Range Unchanged
FFA KOTH
Game Settings Score to Win 150 Time Limit 12 minutes KOTH options Hill movement Progressive Number of Hills 1 Hill Scoring Style Score One Hill Movement Condition Time Hill Time Limit 30 seconds Hill Point Limit 25 points Drain on Hill Move Disabled Trespasser Kill Points Disabled Hill Spawn Penalty Disabled Vehicles on Hills Disabled Loadout Usage Personal Respawn Settings Respawn Time 5 Seconds Suicide Penalty 3 Seconds Death Cam Disabled Infinity Settings Personal Ordnance Disabled Equipment Motion Tracker Enabled Sensor Range Unchanged This is the first time that FFA Slayer and objective game types are included in the same playlist in Halo 4, and we’re excited to see how competitors handle the variety of this new mix. With no map voting in the Global Championship playlist, we can be sure that only well-rounded players will advance through week 4. As always, best of luck to all competitors!

Sometimes, Wednesday comes on Sunday.
The road to hell is paved with good intentions – guess where I’m going? A quick newspost before the day rolls over (sorry, spent pretty much the entire day removing spiders from places spiders shouldn’t be) – we missed this week’s Halo Bulletin on Wednesday, but it still contains lots of information worth reading. There’s a bunch of info on the Halo 4 Global Championship, as well as some useful info about the Playlist going live this coming week. There are also some very nice pictures of the Majestic Map, Landfall. As always, if you’d rather, it’s available in a lighter format in our Halo Bulletin Archive. Fingers crossed for newstime tomorrow! (Louis Wu 23:44:04 UTC)

I guess powered armor is powered armor.
Cody Miller noticed that the teaser poster for the upcoming Edge of Tomorrow has something of a Halo feel… (It’s not anything LIKE Halo, as far as story goes – seems like it’s more of a militarized Groundhog Day – but the poster’s cool.) (Louis Wu 18:20:33 UTC)

Blam! Dink! His Mom Plays Halo 4
Okay – this is by no means all the Halo news in the past week, but I’m going to try and clear out the items that have been posted on our forum recently. Again, huge apologies for the extended drought. First up – MixMaker1 got his mom, who’s never played a video game in her life, to try playing Halo 4 online. The results are actually pretty impressive! Go watch. (Louis Wu 18:17:44 UTC)

thebruce, thebear, and the postmortem of a domino effect
We recently mentioned the latest round of Postmortem’s awesome “Visualizing the Halo Universe” community contest series, where community members provided their take on the Forerunner Capital City from Greg Bear’s Forerunner Trilogy. One particular entry, from our very own thebruce, drew some very specific praise from Mr. Greg Bear himself! Pretty awesome! Thanks for bringing it to our attention, Postmortem. Also, the whole exchange was thought awesome enough by wonderscribe DayandKnightly that he decided to write about it. You got all that?! Phew!(GrimBrother One 05:17:48 UTC)
