From Joshua Hickman:
On August 30th, two groups who enjoy raising money for charity will be playing in the Battle of The Marathons in an attempt to race against each other through the Halo franchise. The two teams will gain points throughout the 72 hour marathon by completing campaigns of the series as well as some added goals through multiplayer and other aspects of the Halo games. These two groups are Play 2 Raise and The Marathon Gamers, one group from the sincere and kind country that is Canada, and the other from the gung-ho, patriotic country that is the United States of America. Both groups will be playing at the same time, starting on August 30th at 12:00PM PDT/2:00PM CDT. The battle is set to go for 72 hours in which both groups hope to raise as much as they can for charity.
Both groups will be broadcasting the event live on TwitchTV as well as on the new Battle of The Marathons website while they both try to accomplish as many goals that have been setup as possible, doing anything they can to entertain viewers in hopes of gathering donations and to have fun while doing it. Those who watch the event are encouraged to participate by e-mail or by the supplied chat room, where they can ask questions and are welcome to participate in any way they are able.
Viewers are asked to donate money through the Battle of The Marathons website at www.botmarathons.com, all donations are processed through PayPal to ensure no money is touched by the gamers. Donors are also able to chose to either donate to the American Cancer Society for Marathon Gamers or Child’s Play for Play 2 Raise, donating for one team could mean a setback for the other with the “Wheel of PAIN”, a widget created to cause the groups to perform ridiculous tasks such as playing blindfolded, upside-down, or singing and dancing. Every cent is sent directly to the charity the moment it is donated. The groups and their events are internally funded with no money donated to the charities going to the gamers.
The Battle of The Marathons will go live on August 30th and will continue through the weekend. The event can be viewed on both of the group’s websites as well as at the Battle of The Marathons website:
www.botmarathons.com. You can follow both teams on their social media sites to stay updated on any updates and future events.
