    Podtacular 391 - Among Champions

    From Dust Storm:

The Halo 4 Global Championship was the biggest Halo tournament to date featuring some of the worlds best Halo players. In a moment of a crowd-cheering Benaroya Hall in Seattle, Washington during Pax Prime, a victor was crowned the Halo 4 Global Champion. Thousands of participants played for their chance at the $200,000 grand prize, but the one person who showed their skills were the definition of a champions was Aaron “Ace” Elam. As a passionate gamer and a valiant Spartan, Ace takes some time with us this week to recount his Global Championship path to victory and the roads traveled before this climax. Joining us for the show this week is your Halo 4 Global Championship commentary team GH057ayame, Goldenboy and Bravo who you got to watch all weekend as the events of the final unfolded before us. Get an inside look at the production and game play of this truly remarkable event, a look back at competitive Halo and the pathways such a spectacle has taken to get here, and what is next in store for the future of Halo.

  • Toy Review: Mega Bloks UNSC Mammoth

    From BigHungry2x:

This piece is absolutely incredible. I had a great time building it. Starting on Wednesday, after taking photos of the box, I opened it up and took pictures of how it is arranged. When you first open the box, on the inside of the front of the box, you are greeted with a great display of a Mega Bloks battle scene. The scene includes the front of the Mammoth, three figures that are included firing their weapons, and Lasky in the cockpit with Roland. The only other thing that can be seen when you first open the box is the put-together guide. It is very well presented in the center of the box being held in place by a cardboard divider. Once the divider and the guide are removed you will find 2 boxes, stacked on top of one another, containing all of the pieces. These boxes have a really neat design on them making the presentation that much better. The pieces are very organized in their little bags, making them very easy to sort out if you are a person that goes through an makes sure that they have all of the pieces before they begin.

  • Guilt O’ Lantern Update

So you aren’t sure if you’re interested in carving up a pumpkin for our Guilt O’ Lantern contest… let’s see if we can sway you a bit. 343 Industries has put together an amazing list of prizes – they aren’t the only things we’re going to lavish on the winners, but even if they were, it would be a great loot haul! Swing by the Prizes section of this year’s contest page and check out their largesse! (We’ve also heard from SleeperQ, who’s won in the past – he wants to offer some action figures, and maybe even a Halo 4 promo display. And we have our own goodies to add to the pile – it’s gonna be a big pile.) Get to carving!(Louis Wu 04:41:56 UTC)

  • ASE Ep. 65: What About Bob? M2 lvl 4

ASE Ep. 65: What About Bob?

Bob doesn’t want to make Ghostbusters 3. I don’t blame him. He also probably doesn’t want to venture down the exhaust vent of a Pfhor geothermal energy plant, but that’s what we ARE doing. At least it’s not sewers.

  • Halo 4 Matchmaking Update: 10.14.13

This week, we’ve updated Matchmaking with a new Oddball playlist, updates to Team Throwdown, and more. Read below for all the details!

    Oddball

The Oddball playlist is centered on two game modes: Oddball and Legendary Oddball. The first is the original game type that shipped with Halo 4, with personal Loadouts and random ball spawning enabled. Much like Legendary King of the Hill, Legendary Oddball offers an experience with BR-start Loadouts and static ball spawning, meaning that if the ball is played (thrown off the map), the ball will return to the same central location each time. These two experiences are available in the first and second voting slots of the playlist, respectively. One of the game types in the third voting slot is brand new to Halo, and contain lots of explosions and sticky things. Stickyball is here!

    Stickyball

In Stickyball, players are equipped with the Sticky Detonator and Plasma Grenades. With projectiles and grenades sticking to people, walls and balls, teams fight over the Oddball while trying to avoid getting blown up. We hope you enjoy the game type and we’ll be monitoring feedback for possible inclusion into the Action Sack playlist after the Oddball playlist is replaced with Community Forge Ricochet on October 28th.

    Team Throwdown Update

Team Throwdown, our premiere competitive playlist, have been updated to GH057ayame’s “v5” settings. Extensive testing went into the updated maps and game types, and the list of 11 map / game type combinations now looks like this:

    Team Slayer on Abandon
    Team Slayer on Haven
    Extraction on Haven
    Team Slayer on Onyx
    Team Slayer on Pitfall
    Ricochet on Pitfall
    CTF on Simplex
    Ricochet on Simplex
    CTF on Skyline
    Extraction on Station 9
    Team Slayer on Vertigo

As of today, no DLC will be required to play in the Team Slayer playlist. After reviewing the last month of feedback and data from the playlist, we’ve decided to remove the Majestic DLC requirement. One of the primary goals of this experiment was to determine the feasibility of required DLC in Matchmaking, and while we knew the population of the playlist would drop, we found that the resulting numbers did not allow for the optimal Matchmaking experience for this playlist. Moving forward, we’ll continue to investigate the best ways to make DLC content available in Matchmaking. If you’d like to see where all of the DLC maps have been integrated into Matchmaking, this information is always available on the Halo 4 Playlists page. We thank you for your feedback, and encourage you to hop in and enjoy!

In Spartan Ops, we are continuing with an encore of episode 5 with Grunt Birthday Party, IWHBYD and Mythic Skulls enabled. Additionally, weekends in October feature big XP rewards, with increased values on weekend Challenges. If you’re looking for some extra XP, be sure to hop into Matchmaking over the next few weekends!
