Buy a Spartan Sculpt for Christmas
We’ve mentioned Jason Evans a number of times – he does some beautiful Spartan sculpts that you can actually buy from him. He’s back, with the promised buy-for-Christmas sculpt we pointed out in November – if these two shots aren’t enough, there are more on his Facebook page. (You can also use that page to contact him for purchase details.)

Halo in the Smithsonian
Remember Ed Fries’ Atari-fied Halo? (We mentioned it about three and a half years ago. You can still play the Flash version in that link!) Apparently, it’s been immortalized in the Smithsonian American Art Musem – one of two games, in total. Very cool! Thanks, padraig08.(Louis Wu 23:35:02 UTC)

Podtacular 402: Master Shark

This week began with the celebration of 343 Day with the Halo Waypoint team putting on a live stream with interviews and gameplays highlighting all the big changes and recent updates to the Halo franchise. If you happened to miss the games and interviews, you can find the VOD on their Twitch.tv page here. Monday also revealed the release date of Halo: Spartan Assault for December 24th. Waypoint also announced during the stream on Friday the spring matchmaking playlist schedule, which is further detailed in this week’s Halo Bulletin. We have the privilege of being joined by Road Block and Jack Edathil from the Glib Shark podcast, a Rooster Teeth community-based podcast.

ASE Special: God Will Sort The Dead Secrets, Crusher and Invincibility
We played through level 20 of Marathon 2 awhile ago, God Will Sort the Dead, but we partially missed one prominent feature (the crushers situated above the teleporters) and one that has apparently remained hidden and nearly secret since the game’s release. It’s been hinted at by the maintainer of the Marathon Story Page:
http://forums.bungie.org/story/?read=…
Now it’s been exhausively investigated by PerseusSpartacus:
http://forums.bungie.org/story/?read=…
He opened up the level in a map editor to reveal the location of a hidden invincibility powerup and its trigger– walking over a powerup some distance away in the level, seemingly unreachable.
This item was apparently not mentioned in the Marathon Spoiler Guide, which lists the switches that trigger the crushers as the only secrets:
http://marathon.bungie.org/spoiler/m2…
Here, playing on Kindergarten so the Pfhor don’t get in my way, I demonstrate how the crushers are supposed to work when you trigger them just as the Pfhor spawn in.
Then I use the teleport feature of irons’ Co-Op 2.2 script:
http://simplici7y.com/items/co-op
and jump myself across the level in time to get the invincibility pickup before the secret door closes.

For Montage Apply Within
Today on MyChemicalBromance’s YouTube channel there’s a new musical montage of multiplayer mayhem called Get W’rkt. It features footage from multiplayer games played by the Bungie.net group For Carnage Apply Within. Footage is included from this month’s games in Marathon Infinity multiplayer using Aleph One, Myth II, and Halo Custom Edition on PC. Some nice stuff there, take a look– and if you want to find some classic Bungie multiplayer games on the ‘net, For Carnage Apply Within. Of course.

Fails of the Weak 169
It’s time for Fails of the Weak again – and the latest episode is 169. Geoff and Ray make fun of people who die – but there are more cool accidents than usual. Love the launch of the dead guy at the end. Watch this on AH.com or YouTube, as usual – and thanks to Nikko B201, as usual.(Louis Wu 18:43:18 UTC)

RPG Elements In Destiny Will Keep Players Coming Back
…at least that’s what Bungie’s lead investment designer on Destiny, Tyson “Ferrex” Green, is counting on. Watch this GameInformer interview to see him talk about what Bungie has learned from other games and where they are striking out on their own.

Flipping a Spirit
kreativekill put up some footage showing a ‘press 3 to flip’ message for a Spirit Dropship – we’ve seen these for all sorts of things that probably shouldn’t be flipped (including the original Halo) – but I can’t remember seeing THIS particular message before. Take a look!(Louis Wu 22:32:49 UTC)

ASE Ep. 82: God Will Sort the Dead
Jason Jo… I mean, Robert Blake wants us to sidetrack from our mission of reactivating the dormant S’pht AI in order to take care of some assimilated BoBs that are harassing his men. We’re warned that “their minds don’t work like ours” but I think he’s failed to take into account how our minds work.
We’re not supposed to ever leave a BoB alive, but we do. Just one. We couldn’t find him to kill him.
We’re also now using the 1024×1024 textures originally created for the XBLA version of the game:
http://simplici7y.com/items/marathon-durandal-textures-1024×1024-3
We’re hoping this makes the beta 3’s MP4 output a little clearer, so we’re doing two more episodes using that instead of ScreenFlow and we’ll see how it goes.

Sometimes the oldest are the best
KreativeKill loves the original Halo – and is still making videos. He just stopped by with links to an older Mike Miller-inspired montage, as well as his newest creation, Slow Motion Chaos Theatre.
