The latest news about the Halo series of games from Microsoft

  • Cataclysmic – Fan Made Composition

Jellycrackers composed an original piece of Halo music influenced by ‘Gravity’ from the Halo 4 soundtrack. Sounds pretty good to me – go give it a listen! (mastrbiggy 19:41:02 UTC)

  • Master Chief Wallpaper

Kampfheld from NeoGAF put together this Master Chief wallpaper – neat! (mastrbiggy 19:40:36 UTC)

  • Spawning AI in Forge

Gamecheat let us know about his latest Halo AI video. This time he created a map where you can spawn AI in Halo 3’s Forge mode. This is really neat because you can now take part in AI battles that you setup. I guess this is the closest we’ll get to a Firefight mode in Halo 3. Go check it out!(mastrbiggy 22:09:11 UTC)

  • The Halo Bulletin: 7.10.14

There are only three weeks between E3 and the Rooster Teeth Expo, which means we always have to do a bit of hustlin’ (no, not that type of hustlin’) to get ready to come and see everyone in Austin. This year, we grabbed designers, producers, a Hoberman and threw them onto a panel, grabbed some in-house professional Halo players and threw ‘em on a truck with original Xbox consoles and TVs, brought Halo: The Master Chief Collection (for your eyes only), and we flew down some exclusive gear. A few weeks later, we were in Austin and ready to party with all of you.

RTX is a special event for many reasons, most notably that nearly every attendee is a Halo fan. As a result, it’s easy to strike up conversation with just about anyone, and easy to make way too many new friends. We’d like to thank each and every one of you who came to our panel, stopped by our booth, checked out Halo: The Master Chief Collection, or bought some RTX 2014-exclusive gear. It was quite a celebration, and we cannot wait to see everyone again next year, hopefully sooner, as we’ve got a few stops left on this tour. If you’re reading this and you still haven’t made it out to RTX, make sure you come next year, otherwise you’ll have to pay the price of reading my synopsis and seeing all the cool pictures once again, knowing that could’ve been you.

RTX 2014 allowed for some pretty fantastic moments and memories. Here are some of our favorites:

Moderating the RTX panel was truly a treat – as I said on stage, I was joined by an awesome group of guys who had some great stories to tell about both new and upcoming experiences, as well as classic development tales. Chatting and brainstorming with Max Hoberman before the panel began allowed me to nerd out on every word of Halo-2-dev nostalgia, and I hope that we’ll be able to share more stories from Halo 2 and Halo 2: Anniversary development later this summer. If you haven’t seen the panel and you’d like to avoid spoilers, you can watch it below! The panel includes a walkthrough of Halo: The Master Chief Collection’s unified “master menu,” an early look at control schemes, some original paper designs from Halo 2, a full walkthrough of Halo 2: Anniversary’s Ascension, and a special treat at the end. Enjoy!

  • Halo at SDCC

Major Nelson announced the schedule of Xbox panels for this years San Diego Comic Con. As you might have guessed, Halo will be there. On Thursday there will be a Halo Nightfall panel that will provide a first look at the live-action series. On Friday there will be a Master Chief Collection panel where new details about the collection will be revealed. Head on over to Major Nelson’s blog for exact details. Thanks, belucheez. • Um, I don’t eat poison in my sleep…

YourExWife released episode 1 of ‘Clips of the Week (or whenever)’ – there’s a handful of great multikill clips and plenty of silly moments. ;). Go watch!(mastrbiggy 21:53:53 UTC)

Tycho offers us a deal: if we let him out of jail, he just might not not kill us. Wait, what?

The power generators the Pfhor are using to keep us, the BOBs and Tycho restrained are (where else?) down in the dungeons. Who knew?

  • The Federal Army of Chorus

Even though they were all crazy-busy with RTX this weekend, Rooster Teeth still posted Episode 9 of Red vs Blue Season 12 on Monday. The entire Chorus conflict is reframed for Agent Washington and his crew… things to chew on. It’s a long ‘un… almost 15 minutes. Go watch, so you’re ready for Episode 10! (Louis Wu 18:32:34 UTC)

  • Loading Screen Easter Egg from Halo 3

Lord Zedd found a new easter egg in Halo 3 – he found it in the code, but it’s repeatable by anyone who wants to try it. (I just did.) If you load up Halo 3 when your Xbox is set to December 25 (you’ll have to be disconnected from Xbox Live if you don’t want to wait 6 months), start up a new campaign mission, and then hold in both thumbsticks, you’ll see the building of the Halo ring from a further viewpoint. (You can jump back and forth during the loading, and the zoom will track you.) There might even be more to this – but I’m not positive. The first time I tried this, the loading took a while… and it SEEMED I could read some text on the outside of the Halo as it built itself. (I didn’t notice this until it was almost finished.) Repeated attempts were unsuccessful, because the loading time was much shorter after the first one, and any text that was created was blurred by the creation process. (It’s even possible I was imagining things.) Either way, cool find, and amazing it remained a mystery for 7 years! Thanks, gamerguy2002. Update: Lord Zedd took the info above and loaded the animation from disc (as I did, that first run-through), which slowed it down enough to read the “Happy Birthday, Lauren!” written on the outside of the Halo. That’s the REAL Easter Egg! Very cool.(Louis Wu 18:23:55 UTC)

  • Drunken Halo 81

Justin Bryce sent word that Drunken Halo Episode 81 is live – discussion focuses around RTX (Justin was there). Go listen!(Louis Wu 18:23:13 UTC)

  • You got Halo in my Political Protest!

So both DeGrouch, on our forum, and Richard Beer, via email, let us know about a new video from Greenpeace… but for different reasons. DeGrouch pointed out that the Master Chief makes an appearance, 11 seconds in. Richard Beer felt that the entire thing was inspired by the Halo 3 Believe diorama. Either way, watching it will give you a sense for why Greenpeace wants you to convince LEGO to break off their partnership with Shell Oil. (No, that part’s not Halo-related.)(Louis Wu 18:22:10 UTC)

  • GoD Halo 4 – cheap

The Xbox 360 Ultimate Games Sale is into its second day – and the top offer is 50% off the Games on Demand version of Halo 4. $15 gets you a version requiring no disc! Check it out. (Louis Wu 18:15:21 UTC)

  • Temporary Link Established.

If you swing by the Halo Universe forum at Halo Waypoint, you’ll meet ‘Catalog’, a data source with some interesting information. (If you’re not up for scrolling through the full 20-page thread, you can see a lot of the recent stuff by looking at Catalog’s last 10 posts.) Thanks to CINCL for pointing out this info! Halo: The Master Chief Collection RTX Panel

If you weren’t able to make it out to RTX this weekend and see Halo: The Master Chief Collection – don’t despair! You can watch our Halo: The Master Chief Collection panel right here. Watch to learn about our development journey, the brand-new Gungoose and more!

RTX 2014 Day Three: The Biggest Ever 1st Annual One Time Only Retro Rumble Halo 2 Dual Wield Drink Fest 2014 Championship Extravaganza Starring Rooster Teeth!

Last night, we got together with our friends from Rooster Teeth to host a few friendly rounds of classic Halo 2 Multiplayer as a way of celebrating Halo 2’s 10-year anniversary. Many bullets and smiles were shared between friends and everyone went home a winner.

    Play Two Pros!

This afternoon, our Pros were starting to get a bit battle weary so we switched from 1v1s to 2v2s in our classic Halo Play-a-Pro matches. We have to give our pros credit, because no one got more than 3 kills on either of our pros all weekend!

    See y’all next year!

It’s been an amazing weekend with everyone in Austin. The best part of these shows is getting to meet so many of our incredible fans and share in that Halo love. You guys are the best part of what we do.

If you weren’t able to make it out to RTX this weekend and see Halo: The Master Chief Collection – don’t despair! Mark your calendars, because we’re packing up our stuff and heading to sunny San Diego for San Diego Comic Con from July 24 to 27! We’ll have more to tell you about what we’re sharing there soon!

RTX 2014 Day Two: Gungeese is the plural of Gungoose

Big day two here in Austin at RTX 2014! Hopefully, you were able to join us at our Halo: The Master Chief Collection panel today, either in-person or online via the livestream on Twitch. If you did you already know that we shared a few new pieces of information at the panel.

First up, not only is the Mongoose in Halo 2: Anniversary, we’ve gone and attached guns to it. It’s called the Gungoose.

mongoose gungoose halo master chief collection

One of the best things to do with the Gungeese is to play a new game variant for Halo: The Master Chief Collection. It’s Gungoose CTF and our favorite map to play it on is…Coagulation.

That’s right, all! Coagulation is one of the six Halo 2: Anniversary maps we’ve reimagined just for Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Our panelists were kind enough to share some beautiful concept art.

We can’t wait to play Gungoose CTF on Coagulation with you later this year!

    A Fitting Tribute

The 405th Infantry Division are some of our favorite Halo fans. They are passionate and gifted costume and prop artists and all-around fantastic people that make every event they join us at more incredible.

Earlier this year, one of the 405th, Ash Turner, passed away suddenly. A gifted photographer and passionate gamer, his loss was deeply felt in the 405th. His incredible Master Chief armor was donated to the 405th and as tribute to his many contributions and with the help of Captured Dimensions, we’ve immortalized Ash’s armor in 3D.

We’ll be working with the good people at Captured Dimensions to create a 3D tribute for the 405th and be sure to share that with everyone in a future update.

Be sure to stay to the end of the show…

One last treat… folks that stuck around to the very end of our panel have already seen this, but for the rest of you this will be the first time. It’s our latest trailer for Halo: The Master Chief Collection from Sequence. Let us know what you think of it and we’ll see you tomorrow for the third and final day of RTX 2014!

RTX 2014 Day One: Starts with a BANG!

Happy Fourth of July, everyone! Team 343 is celebrating the best way we know how – by hanging out with tons of Halo fans at RTX in Austin, Texas.

We got to spend the day doing all of our favorite things…enjoying time with everyone in Austin, showing off Halo: The Master Chief Collection and playing Halo: CE or Halo 2 classic-style on original Xbox consoles on giant, 32″ CRT TVs against pro players that totally kick our butts.

  • RTX Roundup

That Mega Bloks BR showed up in the look back Halo Waypoint posted, as well – but there’s a ton of OTHER stuff in there, definitely worth taking a look. I’m sorry I couldn’t make it down – looks like they had a blast!(Louis Wu 17:46:55 UTC)

  • How big is the spread?

Podtacular posted a pretty cool pic on Instagram a couple of days ago – a fan-made BR completely created from Mega Bloks! nice work!(Louis Wu 17:46:18 UTC)
