Humpday: PMS
Bungie challenged Clan PMS this week. It went about as well as playing a professional gaming group ought to go for Bungie. I fought back the tears long enough to describe in detail just how badly we were humiliated.

RT: Halo Director & An Artwork Thing
So, it looks like the Halo Movie finally has it’s director. You should check this interview on Ain’t It Cool with the director, Neill Blomkamp. Based on his previous work like Alive in Joburg and his Citroen commercial, I think it’s safe to say that our…

Honestly Unique and a Radical Departure
Whoa, very nice. Aint It Cool News had a chance to ask Neill Blomkamp a few questions about Halo, and Neill’s goals with respect to the upcoming movie – after reading some of his answers, I’m pumped for the movie. He knows his stuff! (It tickled me to see my graphic work included gratuitously in the middle of the interview, as well…) Thanks to all who wrote in – looks like Flash2000 was first.(Louis Wu 19:05:17 UTC)

Halo 3 and the Uncanny Valley
LegendaryMark has written up an extensive article looking at the ‘uncanny valley’, that point at which photo-realistic work is close enough to REAL (but not ALL the way real) that it actually looks worse than if it were a bit less realistic – and how this concept might affect Halo 3. Interesting piece! Swing by Halowiki.net to read it. Thanks, Sigafoos.(Louis Wu 14:35:29 UTC)

Is he or isn’t he?
As you might have noticed yesterday, an article went up on Xbox.com, announcing Neill Blomkamp as the director of the upcoming Halo movie – and then it went down again, leading to speculation that maybe it was a mistake. It MIGHT be a mistake – but it’s far more likely that it was just a premature announcement, and was pulled for that reason. Time will tell – but in the meantime, you should swing by Joystiq, for a nice roundup of most of Blokamp’s work to date (thanks, Sorahn), and when you’re through, stop by Transbuddha for one they missed (which might be his best), Tempbot (thanks, RobW). Stay tuned – we’ll let you know how this turns out.(Louis Wu 11:03:15 UTC)

Rubicon Crosses Over To OS X…
… and to Windows and Linux as well. Appleswitch at Source.bungie.org reports that a Mac OS X conversion of the Marathon sequel scenario Rubicon, appropriately called Marathon: Rubicon X, has been released. It requires the latest version of the cross-platform Aleph One engine. Rubicon was originally released in 2001. The X conversion features new high resolution art as well as new and updated maps.

Halo Director Named… Or Not
Xbox.com yesterday put up an item apparently naming South African director of commercials and short films Neill Blomkamp as director of the Halo film. Several other sites, including HBO and GameDailyBiz, picked up on the item before Xbox.com pulled it. There is no mention of the item at all at Bungie.net.
If the item is accurate, but just pulled because it was announced prematurely, it would seem that the idea is to go with a young, energetic, creative and unspoiled director, much as directors of music videos Hammer and Tongs were chosen to create the Hitchhiker’s Guide film. And we know how that turned out.

Kicking Teenage Hiney
KP, avoiding his duties dealing with Halo Movie rumors, has posted a new Community Spotlight over on Bungie.Net. Anne Wolanski of Seasoned Gamers tells a bit about their group, hyperventilating teenage potty-mouths, and the bizarre way she got into the entertainment industry. Check it out! Spartan Jag noted it on our forum, btw.(mnemesis 00:38:51 UTC)

Halo Director Announced
Wow… according to Xbox.com, a director has been chosen for the Halo movie… and it’s a newcomer. Neill Blomkamp, who has a history of short films and commercial ads, will direct the Halo film as his first full-length big-screen project. Intriguing choice! Promotional Video Contest
A fan-run contest on the Bungie.net forums asks for your best promotional video of a Bungie product – prizes are cold, hard cash. ($50, $30, and $20 for 1st, 2nd, 3rd respectively.) Three of your options (Halo, Halo 2, and Halo 3) are Halo-related, warranting this news post. Thanks again, KP. (To be clear: Bungie is not running this contest – it’s fan-driven. Questions should go in the forum thread, not to Bungie.)(Louis Wu 13:25:43 UTC)
