Less Bewildered than they Seem
The Bungie Weekly Update is posted – info about PAX (a cool gaming expo happening right now in Seattle which would have been cooler had I been able to go), info from SketchFactor about Leipzig, and the demo of Halo 2 Vista there, and more teasers about Halo 3 (Frankie is a master at describing things without telling you ANYTHING). Oh, yeah… and a truly disgusting picture. I feel cheated that last week’s Mister Chief, created by Pinkuh, didn’t make a showing. Sketch reports back from Germany, where he’s continuing our Halo 2 Vista Vistravaganza Week. We also chat in loose terms about Halo 3 graphics, but nothing to get too excited about, and apologies once more, for a horrible, horrible piece of art.

Charged Up.
Last week, Frankie mentioned (in the BWU) that Halo 3 has “lots of feel of the original Halo” – in the sense that you spend a chunk of your time exploring, for the sake of exploration. Many websites jumped on this comment as some sort of evidence that Bungie was admitting that they liked Halo better than Halo 2. H2V Gameplay vids from IGN
IGN has some more Halo 2 Vista footage from Leipzig – they call it ‘off-screen’, which either means ‘filmed with a video camera pointing at the monitor’, or ‘filmed directly off the screen’. (The audio is clearly live, but the video’s quite good; doesn’t look very ‘shakey’. Audio sync on the Midship clip is AWFUL.) You can’t see the huge improvements in detail that you’d see if these were, say, 1280×960 vids… but you CAN see the cool smoke effects, and in a few places on Lockout you can see the great level of detail improvements at a distance. (Gameplay is… well, sort of lame. But again, remember, none of these people have played Halo 2 on a keyboard and mouse before.) Thanks to HaloPlanet for the heads-up.(Louis Wu 15:45:52 UTC)

Since an announcement at Xbox.com appeared and was just as quickly removed, the Halo community has been awash in discussion about the apparent appointment of Neill Blomkamp as director of the silver screen adaptation of Halo. Neither Microsoft Game Studios nor Bungie Studios have chosen to comment on the announcement, although Blomkamp himself has granted two interviews on the subject: one to Ain’t It Cool News, and the other a gracious response to two questions submitted by the Red vs Blue fan community, which was keen to know whether the movie would draw from the games or the novels (and from which of each) and also if there could possibly be any easter eggs in the movie for RvB fans.
Official Secrets And Common Knowledge
The withdrawal of the official notice as well as refusal to comment by Microsoft and Bungie would seem to smack of a premature announcement, rather than an erroneous one. If the later, Blomkamp would seem to be just going along with the joke, and having us on until such time as an official announcement is made. If the former, one wonders why Microsoft simply doesn’t ask Peter Jackson and Blomkamp from refraining from giving interviews until there is an official announcement.Click “read more” from the front page for the entire text.

The Halo 2 Vista page has just gone live on Bungie.net! In it you can find a screenshot gallery, an about page and an FAQ that holds everything we’ve addressed thus far on Halo 2 Vista. Along with this update, the web team has also added the long-awaited search function that encompasses the whole site!
