A must for your PAX calendar
Marty O’Donnell will be at PAX this year, one of a half-dozen composers participating in the ‘Maestros of Video Games’ panel on Saturday. Put it on your calendar so that you can hear him wax poetic about his contributions to the Halo franchise (among other things)! Thanks to Greg O’Connor-Read, at Top Dollar PR, for the heads-up.(Louis Wu 17:03:39 UTC)

Detaching the Dropship Turret without Bridge Help
Rockslider went back to his exploration of the Dropship Turret, and the ways you can take it off and stay alive. The technique he stumbles on (and then polishes) at the end is pretty amazing! Check it out.(Louis Wu 17:01:29 UTC)

Reflections On The Destiny Beta
Dumping on Story
I’ve seen this for Destiny as well as Halo before it… accusations of being silly, derivative, and obscure, and I don’t really understand it. Some of it seems to come from those who either don’t want any story in their shooters and so don’t pay attention to it, or those who are used to the kind of depth you get in an RPG and are put off by things drawn with a broad brush. The Halo series supplemented its backstory with the novelizations, whereas Marathon and Myth used the in-game terminals and journal entries, respectively. I have high hopes that the Grimoire cards you get in-game and then view on Bungie.net will be the best of both worlds here, allowing those who want to explore the world in-depth a chance to do so without overburdening the game with backstory during gameplay or through traditional cutscenes.

Go. Go? Yeah.
If you find yourself in an empty church, what’s the first thing you should do? Yep – sing the Halo theme. Thanks, Monochron.(Louis Wu 21:29:15 UTC)

ASE Destiny Beta Co-Op: The Devil’s Lair Strike
We played co-op in the Destiny Beta! Join Blackstar and Narcogen as they go through each story mission, plus the strike, and point out the golden chest locations. (These may change before final release, though.)
This time, we enlist the help of Kermit7 to take on Sepiks Prime in the Devil’s Lair strike. Some notes: Narcogen and Blackstar’s audio is being recorded separately in Skype, so Kermit7’s audio is unfortunately missing from most of this recording.
During the first defensive stand at the mesh generator, one failed attempt has been removed from the video in the interest of brevity.
In the interest of privacy, various XBL alerts featuring usernames of players not appearing in this video have been redacted.

The Old, The New, and the Remade
Last week, 343 released new pictures of Zanzibar, one of the Halo 2 maps getting a complete makeover for the Master Chief Collection. (All of the maps in Halo 2 are getting made over for Anniversary – but 6 of them have been ‘reimagined’ by Certain Affinity, and Zanzibar is one of these.) John Brent grabbed screenshots from Halo 2 (and even Halo 3’s remake of this map, Last Resort) that matched the positioning of the new screens for the H2A Zanzibar, and sent them along to us for easy comparison. Jump in and see how they line up!(Louis Wu 19:02:17 UTC)

In this episode, we’re going to reinstall the old AE35 antenna control unit and wait for it to fail. Wait, that’s not right…

The Halo Bulletin: 7.30.14
We braved crowds of hundreds of thousands. We accidentally waited in lines for 30 minutes while trying to exit the convention center. We were whacked in the head by a few too many poster tubes. We survived another San Diego Comic-Con and are here to tell the tale. More importantly, we gave you a first look at Halo: Nightfall and more details on Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Halo 2: Anniversary. Most importantly, however, may be the fact that we got to meet so many passionate Halo fans in San Diego this past weekend. Whether it was a mother and father who waited in a 2-hour line to get their son or daughter a signed poster, or a group of friends who can’t wait for November 11, it was truly a treat to talk about Halo with everyone in attendance. Whether you attended our panels, came to hang out at the Xbox Lounge, stopped us on the floor and just said “hello,” or have been following the news from home, we’d like to say thank you. We’re excited about what’s ahead, and we hope you are too. In this week’s issue, we’ve got a Comic-Con recap, the world premiere of our Halo: The Master Chief Collection developer panel, and more. Let’s dig in!
Halo: Nightfall
Comic-Con kicked off this past Thursday with a panel for Halo: Nightfall, where our own Executive Producer Kiki Wolfkill and Franchise Development director Frank O’Connor were joined by cast members Mike Colter and Christina Chong, as well as David Zucker of Scott Free Productions. The panel touches upon the story of Halo: Nightfall, how the story connects with Halo 5: Guardians, and details fun stories from the past few months of shooting and production. You can check out the panel below:
After the panel, attendees had a chance to meet with our panelists and get an exclusive Halo: Nightfall poster signed (we might have brought home a few for you, too, and we’ll have more details on those next week!)

Into the Void
Eep – missed one! Prime999r stopped by with word of ‘Into the void‘, a machinima/film project you can watch on YouTube. There’s no dialogue – but you don’t really need any. Best seen with headphones and HD. For those who like this stuff… there’s a raw edition, which can show you what they did to make this work. Pretty cool!(Louis Wu 23:59:08 UTC)
