Currently for sponsors-only, but it should be available for the masses by the end of the weekend. Thanks to darthbob for the heads-up.(Louis Wu 13:10:30 UTC)

  • Halo Movie Loses Studio Support

Variety.com is reporting today that the Halo movie, recently pushed back to a release in 2008, has lost support from both Univeral Studios and 20th Century Fox. It seems that they were getting cold feet about putting so much money towards the project, especially with director without a feature film to his name.

Both of the studios that agreed to co-finance the screen adaptation of the popular Microsoft game have abruptly backed out of the picture. While rumors had the studios concerned over a budget that was rising above the original projected $135 million pricetag, the filmmakers said the double defection came after U and Fox played hardball and unsuccessfully tried to get the filmmakers and Microsoft to reduce their profit participation.

Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, WETA and director Neill Blomkamp are still onboard the project, but now it’s time for them to find a new studio to finance and distribute the movie. Here’s hoping that another big studio with deep pockets will take a chance on bringing Master Chief and his adventures to the big screen!

  • Xbox 360 To Get 100Gb Hard Drive?

Spong is reporting that the X06 Korea event gave details on a 100Gb hard drive unit for the Xbox 360. No official confirmation, or word on pricing or availability. Not sure why such news would surface first in Korea, so take this with the usual helping of salt you reserve for Spong stories.

KP pointed out that in lieu of a real Halo Humpday Challenge, there’s another Halo 3 random match writeup; you can pore over it for clues about Halo 3 multiplay, as some on our forum have done… or you can read it and be amused and move on. Clearly, it was written specifically so that KP could rub his Halo 3 superiority in to his workmates… do you really want to support that kind of pettiness?(Louis Wu 12:35:08 UTC)

  • Universal, Fox Pull out of Halo Movie Deal

    by

    in
Wow. Big news this morning involves the Halo movie – looks like Universal and Fox have both pulled out of the deal, citing fears of ballooning costs, and an unwillingness on Microsoft’s part to budge on the existing deal. According to Variety, where I read this story (thanks, runnersdialzero), this doesn’t spell the end of the project; work continues at Weta Digital while new distribution partners are courted. There are similar stories at Cinema Blend, CanMag, Joystiq, and Voodoo Extreme (thanks, Rampancy.net) with differing takes on the situation. The Halo Movie blog has put together a bunch of links including video footage of Jackson discussing this on NZ television, as well. As more details become public, we’ll let you know!(Louis Wu 11:12:56 UTC)

  • Fox, Universal Pull Funding For Halo Movie

Cinema Blend and CanMag have two completely different takes on the same event. Apparently, just before making an initial payment, Universal and Fox asked Microsoft and the producers to lower their profit-sharing on the Halo movie. Microsoft refused, and now Fox and Universal are out of the picture.

Cinema Blend says this means the Halo film is “almost dead” while CanMag assures us it means Microsoft knows the worth of the project and will easily find new studio backing.

The proposed budget for the project is reportedly $145 million (with a reduction to $128 million achieved by filming in New Zealand).

  • Humpday: Community Team FFA

Last night the Community Team had a few Free-For-All Halo 3 games which ended up being the Humpday for this week. Don’t expect to find any new Halo 3 info, but if you enjoy general Halo tactics and vagueries then this Humpday’s for you! And yes, it was because Xbox Live was borked.

Its Monday morning and you know what that means – time to get back to your lousy excuse for a job. Since you’re probably not doing any real work anyway, why not check out Episode 79 of Red vs Blue?

You can get the Quicktime version here or the WMV over…

  • RT: Fighting the good fight

I’m typing this from the office during a creepy storm. As always, Burnie and Matt are scared and hiding in the closet. Apparently the thunder is too much for them. Anyway, I should wrap this while we still have power. Today’s comic is below.

  • RT: It’s all about trust

It’s Thursday and someone in the back of the office is blaring the Ramones, which is really odd since no one back there has any taste in music. They usually listen to Celine Dion or Clay Aiken. I guess I should stopping looking a gift horse in the mouth…
