  • Heads Up

    Heads Up

MereCatfish provided us with this early capture from Bungie’s 7-minute-long Brute documentary. This one shows (along with an Elite and various lines of fire and information about local terrain) alterations made to the heads-up display, with the shield strength bar separated from the motion detector and placed dead center, straight up.

What appear to be four grenade counters appear on the left: Frag, Plasma, Spike… and Shield?

Current weapon and ammo information is in the upper right, and the lower right (where normally a single-wield weapon muzzle would protrude) is clear.

  • Send us stuff for episode 94: Customs and Callins with special guest KP from Bungie!

Yeah the cat is out of the bag. KP will be joining us for customs and callins! We’re flippin’ out about having Bungie’s community homeboy on the show. Just to lay it out there, we won’t be answering any questions about Halo 3 on this show because we don’t want KP to get flogged. Again.

We’s lookin’ for you to send in stuff like this:

    1. Custom games. We’ll be reading the top few customs people send in. Send in a good one and it may get read by the man! Just click submit news and tips on the right side of the page and send it in with your gamertag. Be sure it’s actually fun to play. Cliff diving on lockout doesn’t count.
    2. Halo jokes and funny gamertags. You know you play too much Halo when you go to throw a baseball and you do the throwing motion twice and then stop, and then smack your forehead realizing you just did a real life RRX. Got a good Halo joke? Send em on in! Like the customs we’ll be reading the top few.
    3. Voice mails. It’s the time of the month to dust off the answering machine and play back the voice mails, naarated by CapnKrunk, Got some ideas about the Halo 3 story? Wanna sing us a dorky song? Wanna tell us a joke? Give us a jingle at 206-888-HALO. Don’t miss the train or you’ll have to wait for next month. Can’t stop the train, baby!
    4. Tales from the foxhole. Remember that time when you were going up to grab the flag on relic with 3 teammates and some guy on the other team jumped out and got 3 no scope headshots? Got a cool or funny story like this? Send it on in, we love these! This is one of our favorite segments of the month, it’s like we’re right there wicha. You know, like flapjacks and colla greens.

Get your stuff in by Friday night the 20th

at 5:30pm EST. As usual the earlier you get it in, the more likely it will be on the show. Move it, soldier! UPDATE: We’ll be talking about every little detail of the ViDoc bombshell the following week.

  • Something Vidoc This Way Comes

    by

    in
Bungie has posted information (TASTY information) about the new video documentary to be released soon – where ‘soon’ means ‘tonight at 2 am PST’. If you don’t have an Xbox 360 and access to Xbox Live Marketplace, don’t fret – there will be options, in the not-too-distant future, we promise. What will you see here? Well, it’ll be your first glimpse of Halo 3 campaign play (though Bungie warns that none of it is set in stone – things can easily change before the final product ships). And lts and lots of other stuff. Get ready.(Louis Wu 23:34:18 UTC)

  • Et Tu Brute?!

Wednesday morning, at 2am PST (Pacific Standard Time) on December 20th, we went Live on Xbox Live Marketplace with the next in our series of Vidocs – a series of video documentaries about you guessed it, Halo 3. This one’s about Brutes.

  • RT: New Strangerhood Soundtrack!!!

You might have no idea who I am, but you’ve probably heard me. No, I’m not a secret character on RvB, I’m the guy who does music for RvB and PANICS; along with my band Trocadero, we did the RvB Soundtrack available at the RT Store.

    But this isn’t about…

  • RT: I just flew in from SeaTac

and boy am I tired! The Austin office attended the Penny Arcade Child’s Play Charity Dinner the other night up in Bellevue, Washington and we just got back into the office. I know what you’re thinking, “They just got back home at 5pm on a Friday,…

  • RT: PSA “Let’s All Go To The Movies”

First things first — our latest PSA “Let’s All Go To The Movies” is now available online for Sponsors. It’s currently resting on a new server (more on that in a moment), so please be gentle. The last new server we used to host a video became so…

  • RT: Saturday comic

Today’s comic completes the “Bah Humbug” trilogy. We’ve had a ton of content posted in the last few days, so just in case you missed any of it, here’s a laundry list:

“Let’s All Go To The Movies” PSA”
    Forbes Video
    And also,…

  • RT: Showtime!

Our latest RvB PSA “Let’s All Go To The Movies” is now available to the public. Admission is free, so grab some popcorn and some butter-flavored hot oil substitute and enjoy!

  • RT: It’s beginning to feel a lot like…

    Christmas?
Not in Texas, it’s like 80 degrees today. But anyway, since it is Christmas and all, and I haven’t done it yet, I should probably mention we have a store with stuff to buy for people, including a new CD, and a new sticker pack. I hear both stuff…

  • RT: Kaboom

Looks like the video server outage from last week led to a cascading set of circumstances that erased all of our video archives. So, we’re restoring from backup now. However, the total RvB archive alone is about 50 GB, so this is going to take a…

  • The Gift

    by

Dennis Powers sent word of ‘The Gift‘, a Christmas story from your friends at the Halo CE Chronicles. Available in a number of formats – very pretty stuff. (Louis Wu 17:47:01 UTC)

  • Online coop – revisited

    by

    in
Drakkari pointed out an interview with Certain Affinity’s Max Hoberman, who made a comment that might or might not have repercussions for yearning Halo gamers:

I would hope that more games are headed in the direction that we’ve tried to blaze with Halo 2. I’ve seen the start of a trend in this direction, and I’ve seen some huge leaps in online cooperative play, and I hope that this all is a sign of things to come. I think that Halo 3 will set the next standard, but I don’t think the Bungie guys want me talking about everything they have up their sleeve just yet.

The Halo 3 Data Archive jumped on this quote, and wrote up a speculation article about what he might have meant. Be aware, though, that until this gets clarified by Bungie, you can’t count on Max’s quote meaning what you think it means. Whatever it means, though… it’s intriguing.(Louis Wu 16:54:34 UTC)

  • Tied the Shoe! Erm, Tongue! No… LEADER!

    by

    in
Tons of new content over at Tied the Leader this week – there’s a Halo 3 Top Ten list, a 22 Questions Interview with Gaming Horizon’s Shiva Stella (funny lady), a call for patience, a clan profile of Golden Alliance, and a reader’s poll, asking about the admirability of pro gamers. XerxdeeJ stopped by, as is his custom on Tuesdays, to let us know about all this goodness.(Louis Wu 15:55:38 UTC)

  • Helping out our own

    by

    in
Very cool story over at 2old2play; it’s not Halo-related, but stories of hope from the gaming community should always be celebrated. Merry Christmas, JollyRoger (and Megan)! Thanks to Rick Casey for the heads-up.(Louis Wu 15:40:58 UTC)

  • Player Reactions to MLG Cash

    by

    in
MLG has posted a story (thanks, 3Suns) with some feedback from the gamers who recently scored quarter-million-dollar contracts… as you might expect, they’re a pleased bunch. This article, however, in the Californian (local paper for Karma’s hometown) suggests that Karma might be looking for more of a challenge. Of course, with this new contract, and his tournament winnings, he’s going to clear more than $150,000 this year – not too shabby for an 18-year-old playing videogames. We’ll have to see how long the money keeps him going… or whether the hungry up-and-coming teams can satisfy his urge for competition.(Louis Wu 15:36:49 UTC)
