Ambivalent Cartographer
FyreWulff stopped in to announce a new challenge on Fire Team Zulu – can you complete Silent Cartographer and kill ONLY Elites at the highest tier? Heh. Sounds like fun! (There’s a bonus challenge, posted today – can you get a ghost from the bridge at the start of Metropolis to the top of the Scarab at the end?)(Louis Wu 22:36:35 UTC)

Halo Community Member Spotlight: Naded

This week, the spotlight turns to Naded!
Question: What’s your gamertag and its origin?
Answer: My gamertag is Naded and it originated from an old name I used in Halo: CE, which was LeMoNaDEd. In Halo 2 I joined a clan and wanted to put my clan tag in front of my gamertag on Xbox Live but LeMoNaDEd was too big of a name so I shortened it to just Naded.

Podtacular 442: Gungoosed

With just under two months to go until the release of The Master Chief Collection, we are still getting a trickle of news branching across the internet. This week’s new course on the menu is the Zanzibar remake with Gungoose gameplay and new campaign footage from Cairo Station and Delta Halo. Halo 2 Anniversary is looking stunning and we can’t wait to get our hands on it. Also part of this week’s Halo Bulletin, Dan Ayoub talks about some of the notable graphical differences in Halo 3 and Halo 4.

ASE Ep. 132 Marathon EVIL 10: We Be Ground Pounders
We’ve finished with the canonical Marathon Trilogy and are moving on to third party scenarios, starting with EVIL. In this scenario, a UESC ship from Tau Ceti runs into a spatial anomaly that sends them far away where we encounter something dark and evil.
Six chips. Six slots. No waiting.
No, actually there is a lot of waiting while we wander around trying to figure out how to find the chips and all these slots, and then grenades start passing through sprites and geometry, and that’s never good.
EVIL can be played, like the other Marathon games, using the open source Aleph One engine which you can get here for Windows, Mac and Linux:

We use irons’ Co-Op script, which gives weapons and ammo to both players if either picks any up, and prevents weapon loss on death (so items can’t be destroyed in lava or slime). The script also allows one player to teleport to a destination set by themselves or their partner, in case co-op players run into a problem a solo player would have to restart for.

Let’s Play Destiny Co-Op: The World’s Grave
Blackstar and Narcogen are picking up with playing Destiny in co-op mode with the first moon mission: The Dark Beyond. (The Cosmodrome story missions and strike seem largely unchanged from the beta test, at least at their lower difficulty levels).
Deep under the moon’s surface, a Knight guards the World’s Grave. Time to kill him.

Frank O’Connor discusses Nightfall
Back in August, when the upcoming movie Nightfall was first announced at San Diego Comic-Con, Shacknews interviewed Frank O’Connor about the details surrounding the project. They released a 2-minute clip at the time. (That clip focused on Frank’s thoughts about Comic-Con itself, didn’t really mention Nightfall at all.) A couple of days ago, they released a 4-minute piece of the interview that did, indeed, focus on Nightfall – a lot of it is recap, at this point (not surprising, when a month and a couple of other large press events have happened since), but it’s a pretty nice summary of the project, and contains tidbits you might not know yet. Go watch!(Louis Wu 12:02:02 UTC)

Of Chiefs and Brides
We neglected to mention it when it came out on Wednesday (I was on a plane at the time), but this week’s Halo Bulletin contains some great MCC stuff for you – screenshots, videos, descriptions, you name it. There’s also a heartwarming tale of love and betrothal, a look at the Walk For Wishes (something a chunk of the studio participated in), and some high-flying screenshots. As always, you can read it at Halo Waypoint, or right here in our Halo Bulletin Archive. Thanks, CrisTheeCrappy.(Louis Wu 12:01:41 UTC)

ASE Ep. 131 Marathon EVIL 9: A million ways to spend your time
We’ve finished with the canonical Marathon Trilogy and are moving on to third party scenarios, starting with EVIL. In this scenario, a UESC ship from Tau Ceti runs into a spatial anomaly that sends them far away where we encounter something dark and evil.
Our job here is to destroy the facility (built inside a volcano) by causing it to fill with lava. Aren’t volcanoes already filled with lava?
I’m still not sure if we played this level the right way or not. My idea was that the four lava gates need to be destroyed in order to progress; they made noise when shot. I thought maybe they looked more significant with the original textures, or displayed damage, but I went back again with all HD textures off, and they don’t. Instead, Blackstar managed to do the grenade hop I failed, and we completed the level that way.
EVIL can be played, like the other Marathon games, using the open source Aleph One engine which you can get here for Windows, Mac and Linux:

The Halo Bulletin: 9.17.14
Over the past few weeks, you’ve been asking to see more of Halo: The Master Chief Collection. You’ve asked for footage from each game, glorious Gungoose gameplay, and (lots) more. Just today, we released a sneak peek at a bit more goodness in the form of Halo 2: Anniversary screenshots, video footage from Halo 2: Anniversary and Halo 3 on Xbox One. Let’s start by taking a look at some brand new shots, hot off the presses! We formatted them wallpaper sizes, which may help hold you over until November, or may instead have the reverse effect and make November seem that much further away. Either way, we hope you like ‘em.
