A little while ago on the podcast, we mentioned a project harkening from the PC side of Halo called SPv3, a Halo: Custom Edition. While we were at Pax Prime in Seattle, we got to meet up with Masterz1337, one of the team members of Custom Map Team, who is developing the mod.  SPv3 is a completely re-envisioned version of the original campaign with their own additions of new weapons, updated textures, new enemy classes from later Halo games, and much more.  It all runs at 4K for computers that can support that display resolution.  The mod is slated to start releasing in November, just after the release of the Master Chief Collection.  For more information about the mod, head over to Halomods.com/CMT.

  • Let’s Play Destiny Co-Op #9: The Chamber of Night

    The Chamber of Night

Blackstar and Narcogen are picking up with playing Destiny in co-op mode with the first moon mission: The Dark Beyond. (The Cosmodrome story missions and strike seem largely unchanged from the beta test, at least at their lower difficulty levels).

The Hive are using some secret ritual to weaken the Traveler. Blackstar and Narcogen have to get to the deep, dark bottom of it.

  • New FTZ challenges – Halo 3 and 4

Didn’t make it home in time for this to be in Friday’s news… but FyreWulff has posted new Fire Team Zulu challenges – Hamlet HD involves a lack of in-game data, while Hardpoint involves a lack of big weapons. Both look fun! Check ’em out. (Louis Wu 00:50:40 UTC)

  • 1.0.2 Patch Preview

Coming soon to a Tower vendor near you.

  • From Ibie’shan to Vulture evolution

This week’s Halo Bulletin is something of a departure – Bravo’s off, so GrimBrother One has jumped in to answer some long-standing fan questions about the Halo canon. Fascinating stuff! (There’s also a tidbit about Halo Escalation #10, and some fun DMR screenshots.) As always, there’s a local copy in our Halo Bulletin Archive. (Louis Wu 18:57:55 UTC)

  • ASE Ep. 133 Marathon EVIL 11: For This I Went To College?

For This I Went To College?

We’ve finished with the canonical Marathon Trilogy and are moving on to third party scenarios, starting with EVIL. In this scenario, a UESC ship from Tau Ceti runs into a spatial anomaly that sends them far away where we encounter something dark and evil.

A special task force awaits to help us take out a special Juggernaut. If only we weren’t so impatient.

EVIL can be played, like the other Marathon games, using the open source Aleph One engine which you can get here for Windows, Mac and Linux:

    http://source.bungie.org

EVIL and other third party scenarios for the Aleph One engine can be downloaded here:

    http://source.bungie.org/scenarios.php#more

We use irons’ Co-Op script, which gives weapons and ammo to both players if either picks any up, and prevents weapon loss on death (so items can’t be destroyed in lava or slime). The script also allows one player to teleport to a destination set by themselves or their partner, in case co-op players run into a problem a solo player would have to restart for.

EVIL has its own spoiler guide:

  • The Halo Bulletin: 9.24.14

Hello, friends! I’m out of the studio this week – visiting home and spending far too many hours on cross-country commercial aircraft – but had to take the time to say hello to all of you.

As I speed through the air at 30,000 feet, soaring above mountain peaks, and staring off into the blurred intersection of land and sky, I easily get lost daydreaming about the vastness of our world. I then remember that this planet will be descended upon by the Prophet of Regret’s fleet in just over 500 years, and the view from my aircraft window contains only a very small glimpse into pre-Covenant-invasion Earth. Next, I am reminded that I promised you a fiction-focused Bulletin this week, so I scrambled to grab GrimBrother One, one of the newest writers at 343 Industries, to lend a hand with this week’s update. Throughout the past year, we’ve begun to explore the Halo universe more and more with Community Q&A’s, and I’m looking forward to not only continuing this tradition, but also expanding upon it. In the weeks to come, Grim will be popping in to lend some insight into the Universe – both where we’ve been and where we’re headed – as we approach the release of Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Below, you’ll find his first introductory segment, which, if you’re like me, will get you very excited for what’s to come.

Greetings! It’s an incredibly thrilling time for Halo fans, as we find ourselves all at once looking back on the franchise’s incredibly rich history, and simultaneously looking forward to its exciting and enigmatic future. Halo: The Master Chief Collection is right around the corner, and with it will come the opportunity for a new generation to experience the foundation of the franchise. Not only will players be able to relive the evolution of the gameplay experience, but it’s also a chance for us to revisit the roots of Halo’s deep and dynamic lore. Characters like the Arbiter, Sergeant Johnson, Tartarus, and more will once again be taking center stage in glorious high-definition, while also paving the way for Halo’s future.

We wanted to take advantage of this opportunity to reflect specifically on the fiction, from the fifty-thousand foot view to the far-reaching corners. The Halo story can be found on many fronts. It is all at once an epic space opera, but also a boots-on-the-ground character experience, and we want to continue to make the galaxy more accessible to fresh faces while rewarding the investment of fervent fans. In this vein, I’ll be taking a look at various corners of the universe; some paths well-trodden, others much less known. In the coming weeks we’ll be taking a look at the story surrounding the events contained in Halo: The Master Chief Collection, helping set the stage for folks new to the fray as well as exploring some deeper elements that long-time players will certainly find… intriguing.

Starting next week we’ll take a look at the events surrounding the discovery of Installation 04, and the opening hours of the Halo Conflict. So I hope you’ll join us as we mix things up a little; after all, I think we’re just getting started…

    <3

    Grim

Thanks, Grim! I know I speak for many readers when I say that we’re looking forward to digging into Halo’s fiction and fantasy over the next few weeks as we approach the launch of The Master Chief Collection (and, if I have my way, beyond as well).

As promised, I took many of your fiction questions from the past as well as last week, and sent them over to Grim and the Franchise team. Over the past few days, they’ve debated, consulted archived documents and UNSC records, and then (and only then) answered several of your questions in great detail. Read on for more fiction goodness.

  • Minecraft Halo 5 Trailer

Back in August, Achievement Hunter community member SpawnSolo released this ‘Minecraft’ Halo 5 trailer recreation (it’s not really Minecraft, it’s Maya-based animation using Minecraft-like visuals, but it’s still awfully cool) – I just stumbled across it today. Go watch!(Louis Wu 22:02:29 UTC)

  • Let’s Play Destiny Co-Op #8: The Sword of Crota

    The Sword of Crota

Blackstar and Narcogen are picking up with playing Destiny in co-op mode with the first moon mission: The Dark Beyond. (The Cosmodrome story missions and strike seem largely unchanged from the beta test, at least at their lower difficulty levels).

Long ago, a Hive member named Crota wielded a deadly sword against the forces of Light. The Speaker tasks us with defeating the sword’s creators, the Swarm Princes, to prevent the sword from being used again. (Not sure how, it just sort of disappears, and sometimes there’s more than one.)
