  • Counting Down To Rule Of Three Registration

With the three days to get in your three hours of Halo 2 on Xbox Live play on an Xbox 360 in already passed, and web registration— apparently– about to open, Halo 2 players are poised over their keyboards to attempt to become one of the 13,333 lucky entrants into Phase Two of the selection process for Bungie’s Halo 3 multiplayer beta.

“February 5” is the only clue anyone has to when this registration will begin, and spots are sure to go fast. There’s no note of what timezone it is supposed to be, but smart money bets it can’t be earlier than 12 midnight EST, which is less than half an hour away, so warm up your keyboards, ladies and gentlemen.

The first 13,333 qualified registrants at www.halo3.com today will get email confirmations of their beta invites sometime in February.

While you’re waiting to register, if you’re wondering if you met the three hour requirement but don’t want to do all the math yourself, check this site:

    http://rossonline.us/halo3beta.php

You enter your gamertag, and it will total up all the games you’ve played and give you a final figure for how much game time you accrued during the three days, so you’ll know in advance if you qualify. Obviously, there’s no guarantee the number is right, but it looks okay to me. Thanks to Raiden in #hbo who pointed it out.

UPDATE: Now just passing midnight EST, no one has yet confirmed that registration has actually begun.

  • How You’ll Download Halo 3 Beta via Crackdown

    thx on digg

Initially, I had wondered if you would download the beta by entering a redemption code in the XBL marketplace. It appears the above pic is the definitive answer. Apparently in the “downloads” section of the Crackdown menu you’ll find the option to download the Halo 3 beta. This answers a couple of minor, nagging questions. It appears you will have to insert the Crackdown disc to download the H3 beta, but it does not appear the Crackdown disc will have to be in the tray in order to play H3 beta.

  • Sunday Art Deluge

The art submissions have been building up since late November; as always, I apologize for the tardiness. Swing by the Miscellaneous Art section for 72 new entries – 95 pictures in all. As always, there’s a bunch of spectacular stuff in there (along with artwork which shows more love and enthusiasm than, say, raw talent – but remember, everyone starts somewhere). Fun stuff, serious stuff, tradional media or digital… it’s all in there. There’s at least one artist I’ll probably be contacting soon about a new gallery page here…(Louis Wu 18:57:18 UTC)

Rockslider has written up another ‘Frontline With Suzie‘ article – this time, she’s interviewing the jackals outside of the brig on Truth and Reconciliation – the one holding Captain Keyes.(Louis Wu 14:26:27 UTC)

Jordan117 found an interesting photo yesterday; it’s groan-worthy, it’s One One Se7en related, and Stuntmutt WASN’T involved. Go cry.(Louis Wu 13:32:39 UTC)

Red vs Blue Episode 89, “The Haystack”, is now up in Flash format for Sponsors. Sheila’s having issues… and there’s some funky stuff going on in the afterlife. Erm, the cave. Uh… whatever. Burnie didn’t do a very good job of announcing this puppy, so I’m 11 hours late. Psychophan7 even beat the RvB front page with this news…(Louis Wu 19:09:58 UTC)

  • RT: Macho Man

Today’s comic is posted below. I think it clears up a few lingering questions from Saturday. Also, Jason and I are fucking freezing in Portland. Please send scarves and mittens ASAP. Brrr

  • RT: The RT Globetrotters

Much like a bear emerging from his winter hibernation, I am back and ready to start bombarding you with information about conventions and places where you and I can meet up and just say ‘hi’. We already have our travel schedule for the year planned out…

  • RT: Bad Ideas…

I’ve seen a lot of bad tattoo ideas, many in our very own forums (looking at you Hidden Ninja), but in today’s comic, Gus takes the cake (or pie…I forget how that works).

  • RT: If I’ve Told You Once…

It’s Saturday, Episode 89 is up for sponsors, and today’s comic is below. Everything is right with the world. On Probation

  • The Spartan Effect, Episode 4

    —

    by

    in
Eddie, from Rookie Rabbit Productions, sent us a note to let us know that The Spartan Effect, Episode 4 is now online. It’s funny, it’s well-filmed, go download it. (If you’ve missed the first three eps, we announced them here: One | Two | Three.) Because their downloadable versions are hosted at Filefront (which sort of makes you jump through hoops to download), and because the QuickTime versions are encoded with h.264 (which is fantastic – but only on higher-end processors), we’re offering local downloads for all four flavors of the episode, with S3Pro-encoded QuickTimes. Grab it in High Res (640×360): WMP9 (55 mb) or QuickTime (58 mb), or Low Res (320×180): WMP9 (26.3 mb) or QuickTime (24.5 mb). If you’d rather grab the h.264 QTs, or an iPod version, or watch it at YouTube, the links are available on the RR website. (Louis Wu 13:25:00 UTC)

Amped eSports has an article up that looks at the major changes gone through by the top 8 pro Halo 2 teams in this offseason – if you’ve lost track of who’s playing for what team, this is a good piece to look at.(Louis Wu 13:09:14 UTC)

Mister Froggy wrote to point out Halo, Articulated #10. I’m not sure I fully understand it, because the figures in the strip are ALREADY 12″ tall… but hey, mine is not to reason why, mine is just to pass it along to you. Update: Mister Froggy points out that Joyride action figures are actually 7″ – so I’m totally off in my confusion. Makes a bit more sense now… sorry.(Louis Wu 13:04:41 UTC)

The Bungie Weekly Update is a bit tired this week – hence the title ‘Weakly Update’, as dubbed by Frankie. They were all playing in their Halo Pentathlon, so there wasn’t much work done. Check out this cutting-room-floor pic to see why productivity dropped yesterday… Thanks to SteelGaribaldi for the first heads-up.(Louis Wu 12:48:44 UTC)

  • Digg Traffic

    thx on digg

Well, thanks to rapture, we have been getting a lot of love over the past 24hours. I bet he didn’t know what he was going to unleash when he took his camera phone and snapped this innocent photo of the ordering panel at one of the local BKs. Well, the Diggers picked it up and ran with it. We made the front page! I know a few of us are quite excited because we’re frequent diggers as well. Well, people seem to like slightly blurry photos of Burger King because we got some action from Kotaku, ArsTechnica, the Wired Blog and Destructoid plastered us to their front page as well. Wow. All there is to say is wow.

The site went down Friday afternoon and rapture and I spent most of the rest of the night scrambling to get it back up. We were throttling down different aspects of the site and finally our host let us back online.

For all the newcomers, welcome to THX!
