Celebrating Halo 2 in song
empty set stopped by to announce ‘Dust & Echoes‘ – a Halo ballad he and some friends wrote celebrating the 10th anniversary of Halo 2. His band, The Hot Fuzz Fantastic, did the performing honors. Got that southern rock vibe… go listen!(Louis Wu 22:07:11 UTC)

Selfies in the War Zone kicks off with Zombies
We got word from DamianLacedamian – This Spartan Life, a staple of the Halo scene in the Halo 2/Halo 3 days, is back! The newest season is called ‘Selfies in the War Zone’, and the first episode has an interview with Arthur Suydam, a cover artist for a number of Marvel titles. (It also has an interview, of sorts, with David Cross…) Go watch!(Louis Wu 20:14:45 UTC)

Ambivalent Cartographer, Sorted
Rockslider took on Fire Team Zulu’s Ambivalent Cartographer challenge (we mentioned it last week), and filmed the final product. Definitely a couple of dicey moments there! Take a look.(Louis Wu 22:19:22 UTC)

ASE Ep. 134 Marathon EVIL 12: Code 42 Part 1
UPDATE: This video is being replaced due to audio issues.
UPDATE: Audio should be fixed in current version.
We’ve finished with the canonical Marathon Trilogy and are moving on to third party scenarios, starting with EVIL. In this scenario, a UESC ship from Tau Ceti runs into a spatial anomaly that sends them far away where we encounter something dark and evil.
The mysterious Felix has an ingenious, inscrutable plan to mess with the Mystics by ruining their planet’s magnetic field.
EVIL can be played, like the other Marathon games, using the open source Aleph One engine which you can get here for Windows, Mac and Linux:
EVIL and other third party scenarios for the Aleph One engine can be downloaded here:

We use irons’ Co-Op script, which gives weapons and ammo to both players if either picks any up, and prevents weapon loss on death (so items can’t be destroyed in lava or slime). The script also allows one player to teleport to a destination set by themselves or their partner, in case co-op players run into a problem a solo player would have to restart for.

Podtacular 443: Amending Cartographer
A little while ago on the podcast, we mentioned a project harkening from the PC side of Halo called SPv3, a Halo: Custom Edition. While we were at Pax Prime in Seattle, we got to meet up with Masterz1337, one of the team members of Custom Map Team, who is developing the mod. SPv3 is a completely re-envisioned version of the original campaign with their own additions of new weapons, updated textures, new enemy classes from later Halo games, and much more. It all runs at 4K for computers that can support that display resolution. The mod is slated to start releasing in November, just after the release of the Master Chief Collection. For more information about the mod, head over to Halomods.com/CMT.

Let’s Play Destiny Co-Op #9: The Chamber of Night
Blackstar and Narcogen are picking up with playing Destiny in co-op mode with the first moon mission: The Dark Beyond. (The Cosmodrome story missions and strike seem largely unchanged from the beta test, at least at their lower difficulty levels).
The Hive are using some secret ritual to weaken the Traveler. Blackstar and Narcogen have to get to the deep, dark bottom of it.

New FTZ challenges – Halo 3 and 4
Didn’t make it home in time for this to be in Friday’s news… but FyreWulff has posted new Fire Team Zulu challenges – Hamlet HD involves a lack of in-game data, while Hardpoint involves a lack of big weapons. Both look fun! Check ’em out. (Louis Wu 00:50:40 UTC)

From Ibie’shan to Vulture evolution
This week’s Halo Bulletin is something of a departure – Bravo’s off, so GrimBrother One has jumped in to answer some long-standing fan questions about the Halo canon. Fascinating stuff! (There’s also a tidbit about Halo Escalation #10, and some fun DMR screenshots.) As always, there’s a local copy in our Halo Bulletin Archive. (Louis Wu 18:57:55 UTC)

ASE Ep. 133 Marathon EVIL 11: For This I Went To College?
We’ve finished with the canonical Marathon Trilogy and are moving on to third party scenarios, starting with EVIL. In this scenario, a UESC ship from Tau Ceti runs into a spatial anomaly that sends them far away where we encounter something dark and evil.
A special task force awaits to help us take out a special Juggernaut. If only we weren’t so impatient.
EVIL can be played, like the other Marathon games, using the open source Aleph One engine which you can get here for Windows, Mac and Linux:
