ASE Ep. 139 Marathon EVIL 15: Septic Exodus Part 3
We’ve finished with the canonical Marathon Trilogy and are moving on to third party scenarios, starting with EVIL. In this scenario, a UESC ship from Tau Ceti runs into a spatial anomaly that sends them far away where we encounter something dark and evil.
Blackstar and Narcogen arrive at what seems to be the level’s last puzzle but have trouble making the machinery work.
EVIL can be played, like the other Marathon games, using the open source Aleph One engine which you can get here for Windows, Mac and Linux:
EVIL and other third party scenarios for the Aleph One engine can be downloaded here:

We use irons’ Co-Op script, which gives weapons and ammo to both players if either picks any up, and prevents weapon loss on death (so items can’t be destroyed in lava or slime). The script also allows one player to teleport to a destination set by themselves or their partner, in case co-op players run into a problem a solo player would have to restart for.

ASE Ep. 138 Marathon EVIL 15: Septic Exodus Part 2
We’ve finished with the canonical Marathon Trilogy and are moving on to third party scenarios, starting with EVIL. In this scenario, a UESC ship from Tau Ceti runs into a spatial anomaly that sends them far away where we encounter something dark and evil.
Last time, we used co-op to cheat our way through a moving platform puzzle. This time, Narcogen negotiates a sewer maze looking for buttons while Blackstar fights respawning enemies.
EVIL can be played, like the other Marathon games, using the open source Aleph One engine which you can get here for Windows, Mac and Linux:

The McDonalds of Shooters
According to a newspost on Xbox.com, Halo has driven over 6 billion hours of gameplay on Xbox LIVE. That’s a big number! (I have my doubts about the count… but I certainly don’t have access to logs, so it could very well be accurate.) Thanks to gamerguy2002, who pointed out an article at Kotaku about it.(Louis Wu 22:52:55 UTC)

The Elite Eight
The newest Halo Bulletin, published last night, discusses the MCC Launch Invitational (a pro tournament taking place in LA just before launch), reminds you to watch the Nightfall trailer (and lets you do so right from the page), previews Halo: Escalation #11, continues the new tradition of Canon Fodder, whereby Grim tells us all about the Halo storyline, and shows off screenshots of Exile. Whew! You can read it on Halo Waypoint, or you can read it in our Halo Bulletin Archive. Thanks to Grizzlei for the heads-up this week.(Louis Wu 22:43:23 UTC)

Halo 4: Playable Cinematics
Funky! Gamecheat13 has managed to mod his way into the Halo 4 cutscenes as a playable character! (The Chief is still present… he’s just moving around him.) Weird and creepy! It’s unclear whether he can actually affect existing activity – as you could by, say, dropping a Banshee into the final AotCR cutscene, but it’s wild how you can get up close and personal to parts that were only visible from a distance. Go watch. Thanks, gamerguy2002.(Louis Wu 20:55:16 UTC)
