ASE Ep. 142 Marathon EVIL 16: Shmackle Part 2
We’ve finished with the canonical Marathon Trilogy and are moving on to third party scenarios, starting with EVIL. In this scenario, a UESC ship from Tau Ceti runs into a spatial anomaly that sends them far away where we encounter something dark and evil.
Blackstar and Narcogen discover a hidden door and some even more surprising things as they finally discover the true nature of the area they’ve been transported into in the 2nd part of the level Shmackle.
EVIL can be played, like the other Marathon games, using the open source Aleph One engine which you can get here for Windows, Mac and Linux:
EVIL and other third party scenarios for the Aleph One engine can be downloaded here:

We use irons’ Co-Op script, which gives weapons and ammo to both players if either picks any up, and prevents weapon loss on death (so items can’t be destroyed in lava or slime). The script also allows one player to teleport to a destination set by themselves or their partner, in case co-op players run into a problem a solo player would have to restart for.

Okay – mastrbiggy and I (and Tex, and Domino Theory, and Voltron, and…) are headed back to Day 2 of the Halo Launch Invitational, kicking off the festivities for the MCC Launch and the Halo Championship Series – yesterday was a fun-filled day of gameplay from legendary names (From Ogre2 to Flamesword and many, many people in between), and today promises to be just as exciting. Last night Believe the Hype and Str8 Rippin were the two teams that advanced without losing – today the remaining 6 teams fight through the Losers Bracket to see who has the right to face one of them in the finals! Watch all the action on Twitch.(Louis Wu 18:28:44 UTC)

Space Banshees found in Halo 4 Map
Gamecheat13 found some unused, untextured Space Banshees (the models are right out of Halo Reach) and a copy of the Broadsword in a Spartan Ops map – his speculation was that there might have been a planned space battle that never materialized. Interesting stuff! Thanks, gamerguy2002.(Louis Wu 18:18:15 UTC)

Swing by the voting page, peruse the pictures (be sure to click on the thumbnails, many of the designs NEED to be seen in larger format to be appreciated), and pick your favorite 5 – we’ll tally the votes and declare winners after we close the page next Friday night!(Louis Wu 21:50:33 UTC)

The last written Bulletin
The latest Halo Bulletin went live last night on Waypoint – it’s really worth reading. There’s a breakdown of the Skulls available in the package (and how they affect scoring and Achievements), there’s a description of the LASO playlists, and there’s a summary of the ranking system in the Collection. Additionally, there a recap of the upcoming Halo Championship Series, a new installment of Canon Fodder (we love you, Grim!), and a note about how the Bulletin, in its current form, is disappearing. (It’s moving to the Halo Channel, starting next week, and will be in video format from there on out.) Because of this change, the local copy of this week’s Bulletin will be the last we archive in our Halo Bulletin Archive. (Sad days!) Go read – and enjoy the end of an era!(Louis Wu 21:44:27 UTC)
