Interactive Halo 3 Manual
Microsoft has put up an interactive Halo 3 manual – it requires Silverlight (yeah, they’re really pushing that technology, aren’t they?), but it’s worth installing… this is a nice piece of work. (It’s not the WHOLE Halo 3 manual – but it’s a nice subset.) spec_ops_grunt was first with this, though he was far from alone.(Louis Wu 00:42:50 UTC)

Interactive Halo 3 Manual Powered By Silverlight
—
by
In the past couple days, Microsoft has put up two new Halo-related items on the web powered by its Flash-like Silverlight technology; first, the Halo-themed Tafiti search engine (which I’ve had a little trouble loading) and now an Interactive Halo 3 Manual… which I’m having a bit more luck with. Maybe you will, too.

Just call him AntiQuixote.
Wow. Jack Thompson is back in court – this time, he’s trying to have Halo 3 declared a ‘public nuisance’ so as to block its release in Florida. Yeah, good luck with that, Jack. Thanks to Ben Ritter for today’s dose of surrealism.(Louis Wu 00:36:30 UTC)

Cool stuff, for folks who could care less
Gizmodo got a pretty awesome bag of Halo 3 schwag from Microsoft PR – if you’re a really big Halo fan, don’t watch the video, it’ll just make you angry. (Some people really don’t deserve schwag, I guess.) Update: lots of people got these – including 1Up (thanks, Haloplayer) and Engadget. Not everyone was a jerk about it…(Louis Wu 00:32:12 UTC)

Halo 3 Hands On – Sort Of
Gameplanet breaks the media embargo by a day or so (they’re in New Zealand, so they’re already ahead of the rest of the world) – but it doesn’t matter, because their Halo 3 Hands On has absolutely no information in it.(Louis Wu 00:31:44 UTC)

Legendary Edition back in stock at Virgin?
James Cockshull let us know that Virgin Megastores seems to have restocked the Halo 3 Legendary Edition – at least, that’s what their web page says. No guarantees until someone actually GETS one from them – but if you’re in the UK, and you want one of these, this might be a way to get your hands on it. (Louis Wu 00:26:42 UTC)

Second Take: The Games That Spawned Halo

THX’ers begin finishing the fight!
—
by
It has begun.
Hushed Casket members are beginning to get their sweaty hands on copies of the most hyped game of all time. At the moment, Bungie does not have any multi-player playlists online. Therefore, you can’t play MP with others unless you’ve got gamers on your list that also have the game. Other than that, the game seems pretty complete. Several of us have already bought Bungie Pro accounts and have been unlocking achievements.

Canadian Animation Studio Renders Assistance
—
by
TeamXbox has the story of Montreal animation studio damnfx, tapped by Bungie to help produce some of the in-engine cinematics of Halo 3.
“Having recently worked on two large format stereoscopic films for IMAX theatres, it was refreshing to focus simply on delivering outstanding animation, while letting Bungie’s Halo 3 game engine worry about lighting, rendering and compositing the shots!” said damnfx executive producer Peter Skovsbo.
damnfx’s work apparently applied to about 20 minutes of Halo 3’s cinematics; the game is purported to have less cinematic footage overrall compared to Halo 2, with more plot points being revealed during scripted events.

Bungie Tripled Server Capacity For Halo 3
—
by
Bungie’s Jonty Barnes, talking to GameSpot at the Tokyo Game Show, mentioned that Bungie had to triple its server capacity to handle the increased load from Halo 3. Not sure whether that meant matchmaking, or community features, or what; but from the latest podcast it seems that stat-tracking will be vastly expanded, and Bungie is aiming to keep player career stats more or less completely and indefinitely.
