A Campaign Score To Settle
—
by
Bungie.net has a nice piece up about Halo 3’s campaign scoring feature.Campaign Scoring can be enjoyed by one to four players. It works the same whether you’re playing alone or with friends but it really gets fun when a group of players compete against one another to Finish the Fight and try for the highest score. However, there are trade-offs to be considered – the amount of enemies in the game does not automatically scale with the introduction of more players. So, four people will basically have ¼ as many kills as they would if they played the same settings by themselves. Of course you are also a lot more likely to die, which also will hurt your point total. On the other hand, being a particularly devious player might mean that you can leech a lot of free points and steal kills from your allies while they do all the work. Campaign scoring is fun in all instances but for me there’s not much better than fighting side by side with three buddies and having it all come down to whoever gets the final headshot on the Chieftain to decide the victor.
Be sure to check it out!Click here for the complete text.

Lest we forget, there’s a new acronym to contend with now. Not sure if the Limited or Legendary editions are the same, but I’m sure someone will let us know…(mnemesis 17:56:14 UTC)

Let the tricks begin…
Never ones to waste time, the tricking community has already been hard at work on Halo 3. If you head over to The Hushed Casket, rapture, Devin, Goatrope, and jayWHY have already got a tricking video available with what looks like at least two significant easter eggs (the Grunt sounds are AWESOME – that Joe Staten is a uniquely deranged individual). Also, rapture’s got a detailed skull guide, for those who just haven’t been able to find any of them. Yet. In the 9 hours since the game’s been on sale. (mnemesis 16:32:03 UTC)

Devin, Goatrope, jayWHY, and I have spent dozens of hours exploring the Halo 3 engine and map geometry. No doubt Bungie has hid plenty of easter eggs in this game and I’m sure there are plenty more to find. Jason Jones!

Halo 3 Limited Edition scratch issues
—
by
For those that have pre-ordered or intend to pick up their Limited Edition of Halo 3 today, a word of advice: open the case and inspect the game disc in the store before you leave. I had heard about problems with the Limited Edition having discs come loose during shipment and rolling around in the case, which can end up scratching the game disc pretty badly. When I picked up my LE at a local GameStop, I opened mine right away and turned right around. I walked back to the counter, told them what I saw and they knew immediately what I was talking about, and apparently Microsoft knows about the problem. The clerk I dealt with just cut open a regular Halo 3 edition and swapped the game disc with me, so that’s probably your best option if you can swing it.
Again, be sure to check your game before you leave the store, because otherwise, if the game is unplayable, you’ll have to return to the store or possibly even have to send the game back to Microsoft, which might take days.

One Good Turnaround Deserves Another

The Seattle Post Intelligencer wonders if Halo 3 can ‘turn things around’ for Microsoft’s Xbox 360.
While I know from personal experience that copyeditors are sometimes pressed for time, I’m still at a loss to understand that headline.

Bungie fan hits radio big-time!
Sparkypinball heard Los Angeles-area morning show hosts Kevin and Bean talking on-air about how Halo 3 comes out, and what a big deal it is, and how they don’t get it, so he took it upon himself to email them and fill them in on some of the details. Long story short, he’ll be on the air this morning with them, plus a guest from Bungie Studios. If you can get KROQ anywhere, listen in starting at 7 am PST. Cool!(mnemesis 02:15:03 UTC)
