Great Balls Of Fire.
You would think that Stuntmutt would find some spectacular way to celebrate 700 regular strips of One One Se7en, some truly clever pun or intricate puzzle. You’d be… wrong. (Congratulations, Stuntmutt! Getting to 700 without being tarred and feathered… I’m impressed!)(Louis Wu 15:59:26 UTC)

Halo 3 in Rolling Stone
fullbore let us know that Rolling Stone issue 1036 (October 4) has an article entitled ‘Inside Halo’s Secret Lab’ – there’s a copy of it online, as well. fullbore is unhappy with the unflattering epithets they’ve come up with for Bungie employees. (The fact that Marty’s music is classified as ‘New Age’ bugged me more… not to mention the implication that some of the original Halo’s success could be attributed to 9/11 fervor.) Aside from a few ‘huh?’ moments, it’s a decent read.(Louis Wu 15:53:59 UTC)

Spartan Gundam
Wavehawk bought a Gundam model and painted it – and when he was done, was pretty surprised by how much it looked like a Spartan robot. See if you agree!(Louis Wu 15:37:51 UTC)

Looking ahead to the next Halo
Missed this last week – but Stephen Totilo, over at MTV, wrote up a speculation post about which studios might make reasonable choices for Halo 4, if/when it’s developed. This was written before news of the split was public, so the 1:1 odds on Bungie themselves are probably a bit off…(Louis Wu 15:32:19 UTC)

Financial Ups and Downs
According to a story at the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, Microsoft’s stock is doing pretty well right now, thanks to Halo 3 – it hit a 2-month high yesterday after Goldman, Sachs said Halo 3 would boost profits. According to a different story at PS3 Center, though, an industry analyst thinks Halo 3’s record sales will be eclipsed by GTA IV when it comes out next spring.(Louis Wu 14:48:45 UTC)

Halo 3 Online Armor Viewer
—
by
Would you like to play with combinations of armor and colors even when not on your Xbox 360? Thanks to someone’s clever programming that references the armor preview feature at Bungie.net, now you can. Select any type of armor and any set of colors and it will give you a preview image of what the combination will look like. Two even cooler features are the ability to look up any XBL gamertag and see his armor combination in use right now, and the program’s ability to tell you what you must do to unlock each piece of armor selected. The above picture is a Spartan decked out in the mysterious “Recon” armor.

R.net Goodies
New material and news over at Rampancy.net – they’ve got a review of Halo 3’s campaign from VVV (he seemed to be pretty unhappy, though he said he wasn’t – and there’s quite a bit of meat in Narc’s first comment, as well); there’s a short text-based guide to Halo 3’s terminals, created by N’Thro, and there’s a link to a post at High Impact Halo that will guide you towards maximizing your campaign score. Good stuff!(Louis Wu 12:21:30 UTC)

MLG Pro – new interviews
Couple of interviews over at MLG – there’s a video interview with Carbon’s Karma, and a video interview with the Gilbert Arenas, sponsor of Final Boss. Thanks to 3Suns, who points out that MLG Vegas, this weekend, will probably be the last time Halo 2 is played professionally with MLG. (Louis Wu 11:52:27 UTC)

Halo… as art
yankeyhotel stopped by to point out abstrakt, a new blog which showcases screenshots taken within the Halo 3 engine in an artistic way. The shots up now (if you have trouble getting to the site, you’re not alone; I have two internet connections, and one can’t get there at all) are pretty interesting. They’ve been resized to fit on the page, but links to the originals on his Bungie.net fileshare are included, both to ensure that the pictures are not modified after the fact and to provide you with hi-res downloadable versions should you want them. He’s not the first to play around with this aspect of Saved Films (Injunfett toyed with the idea a week ago, and dogsounds posted a bunch of wallpapers he’d made using the concept yesterday), but as far as I know, this IS the first site devoted to Halo screenshots as art. Check it out! (Louis Wu 11:29:21 UTC)

European Halo 3 Bundle
According to Kotaku, you can apparently buy a ‘Halo 3 Bundle’ in a variety of European countries – it comes with an Xbox 360 (the ‘Pro’ – 20GB hard drive and HDMI), and a copy of Halo 3. Seems to run about €400 or so. Not a bad deal!(Louis Wu 10:56:20 UTC)

Mission-a-Day 6 – Heavy Armor
Jake Seaton’s level-at-a-time overview of the game is now up to Mission 6 – I can’t tell you much about what he writes without delving into spoiler territory, so if you’re following this, go read. This level got a 5/5 from him. (Louis Wu 10:50:21 UTC)

How To Get Free Points In Halo 3
—
by
c0rps3K1lla008 at High Impact Halo has posted a guide to maximizing your compaign score on Halo 3. It makes a good companion piece to the guide on skulls posted at Bungie.net. This one line, however, is genius and bears quoting:
Turning on Catch for Floodgate, Cortana, and Halo gives a free 1.5x multiplier! Why? Because the Flood do not throw grenades!
You might also consider adding Famine. Since a lot of Flood forms are melee only, this lessens the impact on gameplay on those levels.
Check out his guide for more useful tips. Now excuse me… I have to go back and play a couple levels…
