Podtacular 461: Halo 5 Beta Breakdown: The Response

We did it, more specifically, the Halo community did it! Through countless hours of play time with the Halo 5: Guardians Multiplayer beta, we are helping shape the future of Halo. Earlier this week, Josh Holmes, Executive Producer at 343 Industries wrote a blog over on Halo Waypoint detailing some of the immediate decisions they are making to change the final game based on community feedback and also offered some pretty interesting statistics. Did you know that beta players played for a total amount of almost 290 thousand years and that the highest kill metal received, Killpocalypse was only earned once? Did you know Sprint will be toggle-able for custom games and the traditional SPNKr Rocket Launcher is returning as a Legendary weapon? Joining us this week is our resident Welshman, Receptor 17.

An Oral History of the Halo 2 E3 2003 Demo
Oozer3993 put together a really impressive ‘Oral History’ of the Halo 2 E3 2003 Demo – he compiled quotes from various team members (with full documentation) that gives a beautiful overview of the project, and how the various people involved felt about it (both at the time, and afterwards). There are bonus links containing all related media – in all, a serious labor of love focusing on a project that embodied the best and worst Bungie was capable of in the heady pre-Halo 2 days. (I’ve got half a mind to localize it, for the sake of posterity.) Thanks to Jordan117 for pointing this out – not to be missed!(Louis Wu 23:52:41 UTC)

Nightfall – on physical media
If you don’t have an Xbox One, you haven’t been able to watch Nightfall… yet. Urban Reflex noticed that it’s coming to BluRay and DVD in March – and surprisingly, it’s cheaper ($17) on BluRay than it is on DVD ($21). It’s available a day sooner in the UK, and the BR is £4 more than the DVD – makes more sense to me.(Louis Wu 00:51:39 UTC)
