  • Halo Movie Scenes Project

It’s time for another fun community project hosted by I <3 Halo 3 Screenshots! This time around the focus is on the silver screen. The goal is to recreate memorable movie posters and iconic movie scenes in the form of (you guessed it!) screenshots from Halo 3.

  • Master Chief Theater 3000 Season Finale!

Master Chief Theater 3000, the hit parody of the cult favorite “Mystery Science Theater 3000,” has released their season 1 series finale through Machinima.com today! Check it out here, and read on for extras and more info.

  • Reclaimer 78 – Code Pinnacle

Laser beams, hostile invasions, and your Matrix isn’t good enough for this Refuge’s feng shui.

  • What If, Halo Style: Round 4

Okay, so a couple of weeks ago, Hawty McBloggy forgot about Friday, and posted her Friday content on Saturday. That was fine by us – we’ve done our own share of forgetting to post regular content here. She seems to be making up for it today, though – she’s posted THIS Friday’s content on Thursday, so you can check out this week’s What If, Halo Style a little early. Fun answers to last week’s question (What armor permutation would you design?), plus a new question – are you jonesing for any vehicles not present in the Halo universe? You’ve got an extra day to think about it!(Louis Wu 14:23:49 UTC)

  • MCT3K Season 1 Finale

mrsmiley let us know that the season 1 finale of Master Chief Theater 3000 is now up on YouTube. If you register at pyrosmile.org, there’s apparently some extra content for this episode. Season 2 will start in a couple of weeks.(Louis Wu 14:16:40 UTC)

  • We’ve got Armadillos in our Trousers.

Over at the Escapist, there’s an interesting article about the inflation of game review scores over the years, and the effect this has on both the buying public and the developer community. (I hadn’t realized that some game developers base bonuses for employees on the scores their games get from reviewers.) Halo 3 is mentioned a number of times, in support of the thesis that game reviewers allow heavy marketing campaigns to influence their judgement. It’s a thought-provoking read – swing by! (How could you go wrong with an article that references Spinal Tap in its title?)(Louis Wu 14:08:56 UTC)

  • Boom De Yada – again

The Discovery Channel’s “I Love the Whole World” commercial is a favorite for folks looking to remake icons in the Halo universe – we’ve already mentioned a couple of instances of this (here and here). I ran across another one yesterday, though, that I thought did a great job with picking relevant clips. It’s old – but I liked it a lot!(Louis Wu 14:06:09 UTC)

  • Australian Search Habits – and Gaming Prefs

Wow, that stings – in the midst of an article at News.com.au about how more Australians search for gaming links than for porn, there’s a nasty little shot at Halo 3:

There are more searches for Call Of Duty 4 than Halo 3 in Australia and the UK, most likely because it is a far superior game.

Ouch! (Then again, the article goes on to say that Australia’s leading the world in searches for ‘purple monkey dishwasher’, so maybe a little failure in objective journalism isn’t the biggest thing to worry about…) (Louis Wu 13:57:19 UTC)

  • Master Chief among the top costumes this Halloween

Costume Supercenter, a national chain of costume stores, has released its “Top 10 Halloween Costumes for 2008” – and Halo 3’s Master Chief Jumpsuit made the list. Expect to see a raft of Spartans this October!(Louis Wu 13:55:29 UTC)

  • Halo 3 Guitar for GH

Hawty McBloggy noticed a Halo 3-themed custom Guitar Hero controller on eBay – current bid is $26, with five and a half days to go. Rock out as the Master Chief! (Louis Wu 13:54:24 UTC)

  • Halo Wars: first of a series

I’m not sure this is really a surprise… but it might be the first time I’ve seen it printed. eddie m found a writeup for the Leipzig Games Convention (in German) that described Halo Wars as “the first console title of the series,” implying a chain of sequels already in the planning stages. I suppose it would make sense to wait and see how the first one was received, though…(Louis Wu 13:53:49 UTC)

  • COD4 Back On Top Again

According to Major Nelson’s blog, Halo 3 and COD4 have done the top ten topsy-turvy trick again. Call of Duty 4 is on top (for the moment) and Halo 3 is playing second fiddle.

  • Halo 3 fileshare maintenance

Thursday night (PDT, tomorrow) we’ll be doing some upgrades in the datacenter where the file share runs, and it will be unavailable for a short time.

  • New features!

Ayup folks. Ben here, just letting you know that Achievement Hunter has had some spiffy new upgrades today.

    1. Checkable Achievements

If you’ve completed an achievement and you don’t want to see it in the list, you can now check it off and it will fall to the very bottom of achievement lists. This is something a lot of users have asked for, and we hope you enjoy it.

    2. News Alerts!

If a news post is made and you’re browsing on Achievement Hunter, you’ll get alerted to new news. If you browse on any other tab, for instance Red vs. Blue, you won’t get alerted to Achievement Hunter news.

  • This one goes to eleven…

Chapter 11 of Red vs. Blue: Reconstruction is now online. It’s hard to believe we’ve already released the eleventh episode of Reconstruction. If Red vs. Blue were an Olympic sport, and episodes were gold medals, then Michael Phelps would be our bitch.

Come on, Olympic committee! What do badminton and water polo got that we don’t?

  • PGR3 – Tournament Qualifier Part 1 – Qualifying Round

Please enable JavaScript to enjoy this flash-based video. Find out how at this link.

Today’s video is a throwback to an Xbox 360 Launch title, Project Gotham Racing 3, and the toughest Achievement they added after release: Tournament Qualifier. When Bizarre Creations added Tournaments to PGR3, this new Achievement was far more elusive, as everyone was still playing, and only the top 64 qualifying times would be eligible to going onto the first elimination round, and unlocking the Achievement upon completing that.

Now, however, there is less hardcore competition so the current cycles of Tournaments may be your best bet for picking this 50 Gamerscore up. This current Tournament is racing a Shelby Cobra GT-500 along the Flamingo Straits track in Las Vegas, all while using Manual Transmission. I just want to note that this is literally the first time I’ve raced using Manual and picked it up pretty quickly.

The current Qualification Bar lap time at the time of this posting is 1:13:17, which I beat on my Rolling Start lap with ease. Qualifying ends tomorrow at 07:59 AM EST/4:49 AM PST, and will show your local ending time in the game’s menu. Anyway, best of luck and if you make the grade let us know in the comments. I’m confident my time will stay in the top 64 (unless you guys destroy times), and so I shall post the Elimination Round and actually unlock the Achievement when that rolls around.
