The latest Halo Wars Monthly Update has been posted; there’s information about basic progress, upcoming changes to the website, and Halo Wars’ showing in Leipzig. There’s also a scramble picture with some mysterious alert messages; the last time they did this, we got to meet the Sparrowhawk. Thanks to Planet Halo for the heads-up.(Louis Wu 14:40:18 UTC)

Step by Step Assembly Instructions
Over at Ascendant Justice, vociferous created another of his thorough and well-written analysis pieces – this time, the subject is Assembly, the new map shown at PAX. Using information gleaned from hours playing and watching others play, along with discussions with the map’s designer, Dan Miller, vociferous has managed to create a look into this map that should make it familiar to readers when they see it again – whether they were at PAX or not. There’s even a hand-drawn (but pretty accurate, and REALLY nicely done) overhead map of the level! Thanks to Cocopjojo for the heads-up.(Louis Wu 11:57:19 UTC)

You’re Doing It Wrong
There’s an intriguing editorial at The Escapist, discussing the copying of game features without understanding why they were there in the first place, and what that does to games. Halo’s health system plays a large role in the examples, but it’s really more general than that. Thanks, Nokterne.(Louis Wu 11:26:26 UTC)

Perhaps “Halo Blue” which was mentioned in Walmart documents in July is Halo Mythic. Halo Mythic will be a new map pack featuring new multiplayer maps as well as bundled maps from the previous Heroic and Legendary map packs.
With the Mythic disc will come updates to the Halo 3 campaign and the introduction of new skulls (THX was the first to provide you with a skull guide). It is speculated that additional Halo 3 campaign missions will be included in the update. Some of these missions may even take place before the Halo 3 timeline.
The Mythic bonus content is thought to be released exactly 1 year after the release of Halo 3 meaning the Mythic DLC and disc will be available on September 25th, 2008. The release will be here just in time to give Bungie DLC purchasing momentum before the busy XBOX 360 holiday season and release of Gears of War 2 and Call of Duty 4 DLC.
It is possible that the Mythic disc will contain the 2008 Fall Dashboard update for the XBOX 360 console so that users without live will be able to update their console with the latest updates to the XBOX 360 system, including the new user interface.

Seeing as many people want help with the pistol, I’ll rant about the pistol this week.

Shinato M1H3
Halo.fr’s Johnny be good let us know about the first Halo 3 montage from Shinato, a top Dutch player. It’s REALLY heavy on the effects and cuts; so much so that it’s hard to see the action a lot of the time. That said, the gameplay is pretty sick. 9 minutes long, in MLG’s Gameroom.(Louis Wu 20:55:35 UTC)

405th Represents at DragonCon
Sean Bradley sent word that a rather large contingent of the 405th Infantry Division (the armor guys) showed up at DragonCon in Atlanta last weekend; there’s a thread on their forum with pictures and discussion, but Sean also passed along some specific photo collections from members:- SKG’s DragonCon Album

GameQuest – Audition Details
You might remember a post about a reality show that will focus on finding the ‘ultimate gamer’ – tryouts are coming up this weekend in four cities (NYC, LA, Austin, and Chicago), and they’re hoping that you come prepared. We got email from Sha-hid Ealy, the Casting Producer, who sent along a flyer for the LA audition (jpeg, 80k), and a copy of the actual application (PDF, 64k). They request that if you’re coming down to try out, that you bring this application, filled out, with you. Download it, get to filling! (Louis Wu 19:15:31 UTC)

Rock the Vote PSAs
Rooster Teeth put their latest series, Reconstruction, on hold this week, in order to release a pair of Public Service Announcements. These were finished and ready to go before they left for PAX last week, but they needed to wait until the HD versions were up and available on Xbox LIVE Marketplace before releasing them on their website – so they went live last night. Both of them address the ‘Rock the Vote’ initiative on LIVE – ‘Rock the VETO’ explains why voting is important (in a way that every person who’s ever played in Matchmaking can relate to), and ‘Election Night’ shows you how every vote counts. Humor plus Halo Machinima can equal education! Go, RT!(Louis Wu 15:37:23 UTC)
