Podtacular 497: Always-On Co-op

It’s been a while since we’ve even touched our mailbag, but we had a few items waiting for us including a voicemail. In addition, we touched on the campaign article written up by Josh Holmes regarding the squad in Halo 5’s campaign and more about how co-op will work. If you have anything you want us to read or play on the show, make sure to hit that ‘Submit’ button or shoot us a voicemail at (240) 200-HALO.

SDCC 2015 Special: Matt Forbeck

This year packs quite the punch with Halo stories, first of which was Halo: New Blood. At SDCC, we had the opportunity to talk to Matt Forbeck, author of the novella and ask him about his first time experience writing for the Halo franchise. He explains some of the reasons behind his writing process including how Halo 3: ODST inspired him to write the book in such a way that had us re-reading it multiple times just to make sense of what was going on. It also helps that he’s been a long time Halo fan and, like the rest of us, really loves Buck.

ASE Ep. 163 Marathon Tempus Irae 28: In A Vendetta Kind of Mood
Narc and Blackstar made it aboard the Pfhor ship, but it seems someone already knew they were coming…
We’re doing a new Marathon adventure– this time fighting the Pfhor in Italy of the past in third party scenario Tempus Irae!
Tempus Irae can be played, like the other Marathon games, using the open source Aleph One engine which you can get here for Windows, Mac and Linux:
Tempus Irae and other third party scenarios for the Aleph One engine can be downloaded here:
http://source.bungie.org/scenarios.php#more
We use irons’ Co-Op script, (but not this time) which gives weapons and ammo to both players if either picks any up, and prevents weapon loss on death (so items can’t be destroyed in lava or slime). The script also allows one player to teleport to a destination set by themselves or their partner, in case co-op players run into a problem a solo player would have to restart for.

Tempus Irae has its own spoiler guide:

Catching up on RvBS13
The heat here in Seattle has fried my brain; we’re two weeks behind on Red vs Blue Season 13. And that’s no good, because the series is AWESOME. Episode 14, Counseling, focuses on getting people who don’t like each other to find nice things to say about each other (yeah, that doesn’t always work), while Episode 15, Armonia, Part One, gets Carolina to face an old foe. Events are barreling along towards the season finale – go watch!(Louis Wu 23:05:07 UTC)

What’s Wrong With Destiny’s Story?
How I think Bungie’s development history may have led to that empty feeling where Destiny’s story should be. In the past this would have been a blog post, but since we’re doing mostly videos these days… why not?
