Halo, rated ‘T’ for TV?
Some noise has been made over the latest installment in the Halo universe receiving a ‘T’ rating rather than the usual ‘M’ rating most all Halo games have worn on their sleeve. While most would agree the Halos of the past could have easily been rated ‘T’, Forbes takes a look at eSports and how they might have influenced the decision to drop the rating down a peg on Halo 5: Guardians.(MacGyver10 18:52:27 UTC)

‘It Looked Too Real’
Sometimes a genetically-enhanced, cyborg super-solider fighting a zealous sect of religious aliens on a space station just isn’t science fictiony enough, or at least the writers at Kotaku seem to think so. AfroRyan point out an article at Kotaku that feels Halo 5: Guardians is becoming a little too like other modern military shooters. Check it out if you’d like!(MacGyver10 15:13:56 UTC)

ASE Ep. 164 Marathon Tempus Irae 29: …evil so singularly personified
Blackstar and Narc witness a high-level assassination aboard the Pfhor ship and then proceed to disable the engines, while S’pht’Kr beam in and explode some Juggernaughts.
We’re doing a new Marathon adventure– this time fighting the Pfhor in Italy of the past in third party scenario Tempus Irae!
Tempus Irae can be played, like the other Marathon games, using the open source Aleph One engine which you can get here for Windows, Mac and Linux:
Tempus Irae and other third party scenarios for the Aleph One engine can be downloaded here:

We use irons’ Co-Op script, (but not this time) which gives weapons and ammo to both players if either picks any up, and prevents weapon loss on death (so items can’t be destroyed in lava or slime). The script also allows one player to teleport to a destination set by themselves or their partner, in case co-op players run into a problem a solo player would have to restart for.

Tempus Irae has its own spoiler guide:

Podtacular 498: Saint’s Testimony Discussion

The latest addition to the Halo fiction is brought to us by the one and only Frank O’Connor, which brings up an interesting concept about Smart AIs in the Halo universe. In Saint’s Testimony, we hear the plea of one Smart AI, Iona or obtaining human rights in spite of her seven years of service approaching rampancy. She delves into the idea of dreaming, how it repairs certain parts of her neural net similar to how humans reorganize information when they sleep and dream. This show is filled with spoilers if you haven’t read/listened to it. We were pleased to have PensHalo on the show to discuss this book.
