Recon Clarification
There’s been a LOT of confusion about Recon armor, and the Mythic Map Pack, and how it all works together, ever since it was made clear yesterday that you’d be able to earn Recon armor through Achievements once Halo 3: Recon is released. We went to SketchFactor for some answers – you should go read ’em.(Louis Wu 19:38:33 UTC)

Grifball League Enhancements
NOKYARD let us know about a cool new feature of this year’s Grifball Winter League – your team can build a customized Home Court! The official map has been designed to allow teams to customize the large wall so that ‘home’ games are more comfy – and you’ve got permission to get started on the customization. Full instructions and rules can be found in this ForgeHub thread (ForgeHub is working with Grifball.com to make this process smooth, and to ensure that none of the changes affect actual gameplay). Check it out!(Louis Wu 17:31:56 UTC)

From Halo to Hellboy
uber_chaos sent along an audio clip (617k, mp3 format) from the Hellboy II director’s commentary, during which Guillermo Del Toro discusses the helmet he designed for the character Johann Krauss (you can see it here) – and how this evolved from a design for the Master Chief’s helmet when he was thinking about the Halo movie. Interesting discussion! (Louis Wu 17:09:49 UTC)

How to Open MUS Files
—
by
OK, for starters any sheet music that I will be posting from now on will only be in .mus format. This blog will show you how to get the program or programs neccessary to open these files.
You will need either Finale 2009, Finale Notepad 2009, or Printmusic 2009.Don’t have any of these? Download it for free by following these steps:
First of all, if you have not registered for an account on rampancy and VERIFIED it… then don’t even continue reading this until you do.
Step 1: Create an account at finale.com. The account is free. Use this link to begin signing up:
https://www.finalemusic.com/store/newaccount.aspx?t=%2fstore%2fmyaccount.aspx&
Step 2: Once you have finished signing up, you can download the demo version of the above programs. The demo gives you all of the programs respectable features for 1 month (30 days) for free. Once the 30 day trial has elapsed, you can no longer print or save music. Click on the link below and then next to the program’s name select either Windows or Macintosh to continue:
http://www.finalemusic.com/store/demos.aspx
Step 3: Click on the download button to begin downloading the program’s installer. When prompted to save, select “save to desktop”. It should begin downloading. The time will vary depending on your computer’s speed.
Step 4: Once the installer has finished downloading, you should see one of the two things on your desktop:
1: The Installer Icon
2: A Folder
If you see the icon, then simply click it to begin installing the program. If you see the folder, then open it and click on the installer to begin installing the program. Sometimes you will be prompted to extract all the files in the folder but it is unneccessary as it will only put another folder on your desktop with the same files.Step 5: Now that you have either Finale 2009, Finale Notepad 2009, or Finale Printmusic 2009, select a transcription and enjoy the music!
I will post a link to this blog every time I submit sheet music in the future. If you are still having problems downloading the program or opening .mus files, then please send me a message or a leave a comment on this page.

Halo 3: Recon info in new GI
The December 2008 issue of Game Informer has a cover story on Halo 3: Recon – and it’s a doozy. It doesn’t contain any new screenshots, but there’s quite a bit of concept art, and there’s a lot of description of how the game is going to work. There are some very interesting tidbits included:- Paul Bertone describes the scope of H3:R as “a three to five-hour expansion pack”
- Recon Armor will be earnable for all – complete the Vidmaster Challenge series of achievements and it’s yours
- Bungie’s Joe Staten says “we do not view this as a $60 title”
- The cover art is spectacular, and has been whipped up by Bungie newcomer Jaime Jones (google him – I found this gallery of pretty amazing stuff)
The game sounds to be a lot of fun to play – you’ll need to read the article for details. If you’re a subscriber, you should be seeing it today – or very soon. If you’re looking for it on the newsstand, you might have to wait a week or two. I’m droolin’…(Louis Wu 23:08:11 UTC)
