iPhone 3G :: First Impressions
So…this week I realized my contract with Sprint was up. I don’t know if any of you had/have Sprint, but their cell service was made of epic fail…I’ve been waiting for this day. Funny enough, my contract was up 2 months ago and I didn’t realize it until I looked it up on their site this week.
Before you read on, you should know I already use Mac computers on a daily basis(I am a video editor using Final Cut Pro) so I am already used to and love the way Apple does things. I acknowledge it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but it suits me.
The initial credit check and early forms were quite easy. I did it all on Apple.com where you basically start the process on the website, get approved, and set up an appointment at a Apple store. I have one 6 minutes from work, so I just scheduled one for right after work.
As with all my Apple store experiences, the store immediately had a guy help me out and get everything completed. The customer service was fantastic, as usual. Getting everything done was quite easy and my guy recommended me a great iPhone case that recently came down in price quite significantly.
All in all the process at the Apple store was relatively painless and paper-free, all electronic. Transferring my number over from Sprint was no problem and took less than an hour to fully complete.
So far its worth what I’m paying. I got the 8GB iPhone 3G, for $200. I’ve used the original iPhone and I have to say the differences were great. For some reason, the keyboard feels better to me than the original. I’m still not sure why…but typing seems easier. The 3G network is fantastic- compared to the original iPhone internet and data speeds are at least 3x as fast as an original iPhone on the EDGE network.
I’m loving the WiFi setup….quite easy and fast to get connected on my home network. In fact, whenever I get within range of my home network, it automatically switches to WiFi and logs me in.
The App store is everything I hoped it would be and more. I’ve got a ton of amazing apps, and the usual suspects like facebook’s app, Amazon’s app, AIM, etc. I have paid for none of my apps so far and the free ones I have gotten have been of the highest quality.
As far as technical errors go, I have experienced none so far. However, this Saturday I’ll be getting Apple Care on it just in case.
First impressions: It’s going to change the way I go about doing things on my cell phone, and I love it- nothing to hate so far. We’ll see if that keeps up. It’s the most I’ve ever paid for a phone, and the most on any plan(it rings up at $90 a month for unlimited data/texting and 450 anytime minutes with rollover and the usual stuff).
