  • Killzone 2 Demo To Kill Halo 3 Beta Buzz?

    Halo 3 Logo

Kotaku is reporting that a playable demo of the second installment in Sony’s Halo-killer-wannabe Killzone franchise will be available before Bungie hits Xbox Live with its extensive Halo 3 Multiplayer Public Beta. Kotaku heard it from über Halo fan Luke Smith at 1UP, and I heard it from P_40E in #hbo.

  • Halo On A Desert Island

Zombie Studio’s Mark Long chooses his “games for a desert island” in a piece at Gamasutra today. Not surprisingly, for its cooperative play mode, Halo gets the nod: Halo 1, that is:

Is there anything better in the world than playing Halo co-op? No there is not; you don’t even need to think about that question. The co-op campaign was well thought out. You could tell that the designers had made a decision not to compromise co-op in any way. The co-op campaign is equal to the single player campaign. I can tell you from experience: that is a very hard thing to pull off.

Hit the link for a tad more effusive praise for Bungie’s first Xbox outing, as well as Long’s other favorite games.

  • Bungie Pentathlon: Winter ’07

Bungie knows how to throw a party. A party for huge geeks with no lives and low beer tolerance, but one hell of a party nonetheless. Read on for the scoop on Bungie’s Winter Pentathlon 2007 and all of the events therein.

Today’s One One Se7en should have gone live a few hours ago – I hate when real life gets in the way of humor. Still funny, though, if you spend a few minutes browsing our forum…(Louis Wu 21:56:18 UTC)

  • Fireteam Bravo Trailer

    by

    in
QuickTactical pointed out a trailer for an upcoming machinima project, ‘Fireteam Bravo’. His forum post contains links to a WMP9 version and a streaming YouTube version – and I liked it enough that we’re hosting a mirror of the WMP9, as well as a QuickTime version. Short, sweet, nice action, nice camerawork. About 16 mb. Check it out!(Louis Wu 21:53:09 UTC)

  • How to make Machinima in Halo 2 Part 1

    by

    in
Machinima.com is putting together some tips and tricks for making machinima using Halo 2 – Part 1, now available at YouTube, shows how to get rid of the camerman’s weapon, and how to get rid of the HUD. Great start! Thanks, Adam Kovic.(Louis Wu 21:50:37 UTC)

  • Halo: Halos in Space the Movie

    by

    in
A couple of weeks ago, we mentioned a pretty funny presentation of a Halo fanfic. Today, Turtle Mann stopped by our forum to let us know that SnowGlobe Pro has turned that story into a piece of Halo machinima. Should bring a smile or two to your face…(Louis Wu 21:46:29 UTC)

  • Rule of Three Registration – Live

    by

    in
For what it’s worth, halo3.com is now saying that Phase Two Registration is open. The servers are being hammered pretty hard – but this is the page you’ll eventually need to get to. Good luck.(Louis Wu 18:47:11 UTC)

  • PIE Chapter 3

    by

    in
SodaGod has released PIE: Chapter 3, the third installment of one of the better machinima projects I’ve seen to date. Watch it carefully – it might confuse you. It’s worth the time, though – cinematography, storyline, voice acting – it’s all top-notch. 11+ minutes, almost 100 mb. It’s available in WMP9 format (either from us or from Machine-Enema mirrors), or in QuickTime format (here only, for now). While you’re waiting for the Rule of Three Registration to open (no, it’s not open yet, and no, we don’t know when the Halo3.com registration page will go live), grab this and give it a viewing.(Louis Wu 15:21:24 UTC)

As usual, login or register to download.

  • Counting Down To Rule Of Three Registration

With the three days to get in your three hours of Halo 2 on Xbox Live play on an Xbox 360 in already passed, and web registration— apparently– about to open, Halo 2 players are poised over their keyboards to attempt to become one of the 13,333 lucky entrants into Phase Two of the selection process for Bungie’s Halo 3 multiplayer beta.

“February 5” is the only clue anyone has to when this registration will begin, and spots are sure to go fast. There’s no note of what timezone it is supposed to be, but smart money bets it can’t be earlier than 12 midnight EST, which is less than half an hour away, so warm up your keyboards, ladies and gentlemen.

The first 13,333 qualified registrants at www.halo3.com today will get email confirmations of their beta invites sometime in February.

While you’re waiting to register, if you’re wondering if you met the three hour requirement but don’t want to do all the math yourself, check this site:

    http://rossonline.us/halo3beta.php

You enter your gamertag, and it will total up all the games you’ve played and give you a final figure for how much game time you accrued during the three days, so you’ll know in advance if you qualify. Obviously, there’s no guarantee the number is right, but it looks okay to me. Thanks to Raiden in #hbo who pointed it out.

UPDATE: Now just passing midnight EST, no one has yet confirmed that registration has actually begun.

  • How You’ll Download Halo 3 Beta via Crackdown

    thx on digg

Initially, I had wondered if you would download the beta by entering a redemption code in the XBL marketplace. It appears the above pic is the definitive answer. Apparently in the “downloads” section of the Crackdown menu you’ll find the option to download the Halo 3 beta. This answers a couple of minor, nagging questions. It appears you will have to insert the Crackdown disc to download the H3 beta, but it does not appear the Crackdown disc will have to be in the tray in order to play H3 beta.

  • Sunday Art Deluge

    by

    in
The art submissions have been building up since late November; as always, I apologize for the tardiness. Swing by the Miscellaneous Art section for 72 new entries – 95 pictures in all. As always, there’s a bunch of spectacular stuff in there (along with artwork which shows more love and enthusiasm than, say, raw talent – but remember, everyone starts somewhere). Fun stuff, serious stuff, tradional media or digital… it’s all in there. There’s at least one artist I’ll probably be contacting soon about a new gallery page here…(Louis Wu 18:57:18 UTC)
