  • AH: Achievement Hunter Anniversary Week Extravaganza!

Well everyone, it’s almost been a year since we launched Achievement Hunter, and the site has a come a long way it started out with that RvB PSA. In fact, Tuesday, July 28th with be AH’s birthday. To celebrate we’re going to a full week worth of AHTV events for you to enjoy, live: (note: schedule subject to change, keep an eye on this space for the latest)

Today: Though not officially part of the “week” will see the Prince of Persia Epilogue DLC, followed by taking a crack at some Banjo-Tooie to hopfeully make way for Banjo-Kazooie Nuts and Bolts. That starts in an hour at 11:30 AM PT/2:30 PM EST/7:30 PM GMT. Hope you can make it.

Sunday: By popular vote, Fragger and I will be playing Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga whilst consuming alcohol. Hilarity ensues? Watch to find out. It’s probably a bad idea to start drinking in the morning, so that will probably start around 12:00 PM PT/3:00 PM EST/8:00 PM GMT.
Respawn Radio will be recording a live show later that day, at 8:00 PM PT/11:00 PM EST/4:00 AM GMT. Join Lono, Knuckles, and 8bit as they celebrate the anniversary with prizes, discussion, and general jackassery. So stick around for that. I’ll probably be smashed at that point. There may or may not be a continuation of Lego Star Wars after the fact.

Monday will feature Dead Space. This will also be from scratch, and considering how this game plays better in the dark, will probably go pretty late. We’ll get a good crack at it around 10:00 AM PT/1:00 PM EST/6:00 PM GMT, and see how it goes. Expect there to be a scare counter.

Tuesday, the anniversary itself, will be Gears of War 2’s Dark Corners DLC. There are a bunch of Horde Achievements, so we’ll crack through as much of those as we can. Since we’re hoping Geoff will be there for it like Icy Dead People, timing is slightly up in the air. We’re expecting this to be mid afternoon/evening.

Wednesday Banjo-Tooie/Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, I love these games. ‘Nuff said. This should start by 10:00 AM PT/1:00 PM EST/6:00 PM GMT, if not earlier.

Thursday will be the return of Mass Effect, playing on Insanity. We’ll get a chunk of this done, and continue it at a later date. This should also start by 10:00 AM PT/1:00 PM EST/6:00 PM GMT, if not earlier. Stay tuned for the latest scheduling

Friday We’re going to attempt what Geoff never could. Dead Rising, and the 7 Day Survivor. That’s going to be a 14 hour test of endurance. This should start early, to give way to sleep prep for the finale. I’m thinking 8:00 AM PT/11:00 AM EST/4:00 PM GMT.

Saturday will feature a 24 hour gaming Marathon, where I’m free to play whatever you and I decide on. Most of it will be up to viewer vote, but it may feature some stuff from the previous days of the week, some new games, old AHTV classics, and a few surprises too. Should be a fantastic fun time. This will start sometime in the morning provided I’m well rested from Dead Rising. I’m wagering 9:00 AM PT/12:00 PM EST/5:00 PM GMT.

So that’s the tentative plan. Remember, scheduling IS subject to change, so keep your eyes peeled for updates. Hopefully there’s something in there everyone will enjoy, if not most of it. This should be an epic week.

  • RT: Comic Con 09

There’s no way today’s comic is true. Burnie isn’t nearly cool enough to know Stan Lee.

  • AH: Community Videos – Dead Rising, Halo Wars

Only two guides today, as that’s all we’ve got that are ready for posting. There are still videos I need to contact people about re-uploading, and a couple really old ones that might see the light of day, but we’ve really whittled our way through the queue. Anyway, video time.
In other news, Tonyski is holding an achievement race in The Orange Box, taking place August 1st for 24 hours. The idea is that the guy/gal/animal that earns the most gamerscore in the game in the allotted time wins the tournament.

  • RvB Recreation Chapter 6 – One New Message

Red vs Blue Recreation Chapter 6 is up for Sponsors right now – it’ll be up for everyone else in about two and a half hours. If you haven’t been paying attention to the various Red vs Blue series up until now, this episode will be really, really confusing. (Usually, that’s not a problem, it’s funny for everyone anyway – but in this case, story trumps comedy.) If you HAVE been following though… this one’ll whet your appetite for the next one!(Louis Wu 23:27:48 UTC)

  • Halo Chronicles Officially Dead

Still more info from Peter Jackson’s camp – his manager, Ken Kamis, told the LA Times today that the Halo Chronicles project (announced at X06 almost three years ago) was killed back in January, as part of a series of Microsoft budget cuts. Ah, well. Thanks, LoneRanger 2.5.(Louis Wu 21:52:58 UTC)

  • Marathon – The Forerunner Mix (Gamma)

AfroRyan noticed a new remix of Nick Singer’s third Marathon Halo mix (we mentioned previous versions of this mix in February 2008 and August 2007). I like it quite a lot. Downloads (currently) available from 4 sources; if they dry up, we’ll host it ourselves.(Louis Wu 21:39:40 UTC)

  • More Halo Movie talk from Jackson and Blomkamp

A couple of days ago, we mentioned a conversation Peter Jackson had with Joystiq – looks like he also talked to IGN. They filmed theirs – and got some footage with Neill Blomkamp, too. Interesting tidbits about the Halo movie – did you know that Blomkamp actually worked for five months on the project before it was scrapped? Or that Universal and Fox are out of the picture at this point, and that the rights are back in Microsoft’s hands? Hmm…. (Thanks, Kibbles.)(Louis Wu 21:28:24 UTC)

  • Reach (Emerald Part 2)

Nabsuh has released Reach, Episode 2 of 4 of his Emerald machinima miniseries – lots of CGI space fighting. More info is on the AVCOM website – powerful stuff! Definitely worth watching.(Louis Wu 21:20:09 UTC)

  • A Preview of Coming Attractions

If you’re not sure about the whole Anime idea with respect to Halo, check out this monster post by Jordan117. He’s gone to the trouble of finding decent examples of the work from each of the studios involved in the Halo Legends project – you can judge for yourself whether you think they can tell a story in the ‘Halo’ universe based on actual content, rather than speculation. Very nicely put together, lots of work. (Louis Wu 16:02:15 UTC)

  • Halo 3: ODST Case Mod

Nathaniel Hysong has created a Halo 3: ODST case mod for his Xbox 360, and documented the creation process. Swing by Facebook for details!(Louis Wu 16:01:28 UTC)

  • Halo 3 ODST, through the eyes of a Frenchman

Futur Life visited the Bungie ODST preview in Paris last week, with staff from Halo.fr and Halo Destiny, and created a montage of the day. The music is a little hard to handle… but the video’s fun.(Louis Wu 16:01:01 UTC)
