The latest news about the Halo series of games from Microsoft

  • New features!

Ayup folks. Ben here, just letting you know that Achievement Hunter has had some spiffy new upgrades today.

    1. Checkable Achievements

If you’ve completed an achievement and you don’t want to see it in the list, you can now check it off and it will fall to the very bottom of achievement lists. This is something a lot of users have asked for, and we hope you enjoy it.

    2. News Alerts!

If a news post is made and you’re browsing on Achievement Hunter, you’ll get alerted to new news. If you browse on any other tab, for instance Red vs. Blue, you won’t get alerted to Achievement Hunter news.

  • This one goes to eleven…

Chapter 11 of Red vs. Blue: Reconstruction is now online. It’s hard to believe we’ve already released the eleventh episode of Reconstruction. If Red vs. Blue were an Olympic sport, and episodes were gold medals, then Michael Phelps would be our bitch.

Come on, Olympic committee! What do badminton and water polo got that we don’t?

  • PGR3 – Tournament Qualifier Part 1 – Qualifying Round

Please enable JavaScript to enjoy this flash-based video. Find out how at this link.

Today’s video is a throwback to an Xbox 360 Launch title, Project Gotham Racing 3, and the toughest Achievement they added after release: Tournament Qualifier. When Bizarre Creations added Tournaments to PGR3, this new Achievement was far more elusive, as everyone was still playing, and only the top 64 qualifying times would be eligible to going onto the first elimination round, and unlocking the Achievement upon completing that.

Now, however, there is less hardcore competition so the current cycles of Tournaments may be your best bet for picking this 50 Gamerscore up. This current Tournament is racing a Shelby Cobra GT-500 along the Flamingo Straits track in Las Vegas, all while using Manual Transmission. I just want to note that this is literally the first time I’ve raced using Manual and picked it up pretty quickly.

The current Qualification Bar lap time at the time of this posting is 1:13:17, which I beat on my Rolling Start lap with ease. Qualifying ends tomorrow at 07:59 AM EST/4:49 AM PST, and will show your local ending time in the game’s menu. Anyway, best of luck and if you make the grade let us know in the comments. I’m confident my time will stay in the top 64 (unless you guys destroy times), and so I shall post the Elimination Round and actually unlock the Achievement when that rolls around.

  • Achievement Hunter TV Returns tomorrow!

Ladies and Gentlemen, you asked for it, and you shall receive: tomorrow we will be launching the newest edition of Achievement Hunter TV. Geoff and myself will be playing Madden 2009 and trying to rack up some achievements in the best football game released so far this year.

Here’s the fun part, since the game obviously has multiplayer abilities, we may be looking for people to join in on the fun as we broadcast live! Jump in to the chat room during broadcast and see how you can be part of the game.

There you have it, Achievement Hunter TV goes live tomorrow night around 6:30pm-ish CST. See you there! (Or you could watch Olympic Ping-Pong. Lame.)

  • Spore Dance-Off Finalists Annouced

The guys being Will Wright’s upcoming opus SPORE recently put up a “dance-off” contest using the SPORE Creature Creator. Over 2,400 videos were submitted and now you can take a look at and vote on your favorites over on SPORE’s YouTube page. I took a look at a few and some are pretty funny. There is something about a giant mutant creature bouncing around to “Tiptoe Through the Tulips” that makes me smile.

I was a huge fan of SimCity on the SNES and kind of followed the series from then on. SPORE seems to be a pretty damn big jump though. Are any of you out there looking forward to it? Feel free to share your own created creatures in the comments as well. The freakier the better.

    Freaky like Geoff’s crabs.

  • GTA IV – Endangered Species Part 4 – Algonquin 1

Please enable JavaScript to enjoy this flash-based video. Find out how at this link.

It’s Wednesday, so that means we’re going on the hunt for some flying rats again for GTA IV. Today’s video is the first third of Algonquin’s pigeons. Either way, the first half of this series is down and we’ve gotten 96 less birds in Liberty City, so we’re right on track.

Also, stay tuned because we’ve got a quick contest coming down the pipeline and another cool announcement. Don’t forget to check out Achievement Hunter TV later today for some Madden 09 shenanigans.

  • Contest: Qualify in PGR3, win RT shirt!

So hey, we all know you like Achievements. That’s a given, or you wouldn’t know how awesome this site is. Since you do know, we’re gonna do something special. Yesterday’s video was for Project Gotham Racing 3‘s Tournament Qualifier, which I thought qualification ended today at 5 AM PST. That’s what you get for editing at 2 AM. Anyway, turns out that it actually closes at 4:59 AM PST/ 7:59 AM EST on the 21st, which is tomorrow.

To make up for that mistake we’re gonna sweet the deal for you: Set a time below the qualification bar, which is now 1:12:48, and you’ll get one free T-shirt from the RoosterTeeth store of your choice! Obviously, this means you have to have an account here at RT (and why wouldn’t you?), and your gamertag entered into said profile. You’ll know it’s done right when you gamercard is visible on your profile page. It would also be appreciated if you posted a comment with your time and seed to speed up verification.

For example, solobp posted a comment about getting 1:10:84, but his profile doesn’t have a valid gamertag, so he may want to fix that before the tourney ends tomorrow. In the event that only a handful of you get in, we’ll extend it to include a future tournament.

Good luck and of course, if you need some tips, you know where to go.

  • Boxart Credits

The Multiplayer Blog over at MTV.com has an article discussing what video game box art would look like if they showed the same sort of credits that movies have. A bit too busy for my tastes… but it’s an interesting discussion. It’s here because Halo is one of their examples. Thanks, KP.(Louis Wu 18:03:16 UTC)

  • Around The Ring – Episode 4 And Video!

Episode 4 – Yoyorast Island Map Review

    Download
As promised last episode Dust Storm and I take a step away from Sidewinder-esque maps in pursuit of something a little different. In the case of Yoyorast Island completely original. This week Dust Storm and I dive in to explain the mysteries that make this map one of a kind. A thanks to root for getting a link to the converted version of the map for Halo PC.
You can download the map using the links below:
    Halomaps.org for Halo CE
    Halo PC Converted Version

Keep reading for another fun extra!

This week I also made a video to help give you guys a better idea of what the map is like, twisted as it is. I made this video and after painstakingly re-compressing it over 10 times to get it to work properly it’s ready to go. Dust Storm has been occupied and so only recently had the time to put the episode on the feed.

Enjoy the video! (Terrible screen of it, it had to pick THAT spot.)
